Avoid taking a class with this professor at all costs. You will not learn anything. Despite being a professor, she seems to have a severe lack of understanding of the material, and simply rewrites the equations from the textbook every class. Always walked into class with a cup of coffee like she just woke up 2 minutes ago, no energy. I stopped attending her lectures after a couple weeks. We were lucky to have 2 wonderful TAs who had a better understanding of the material than the professor. Her class is pretty easy only because no one does well due to her terrible teaching skills. When the TAs are literally smarter than the professor, something is wrong.

considering the class she taught, the worst teacher i have ever had. definitely the worst professor i've had at UMD. half of the class failed both the midterms, so we just end up praying that everyone else failed so we can get a curve. it's a really difficult class and difficult class to teach in her defense, but her lectures felt completely useless. she is very nice and caring, but she never sounds like she even fully knows what she is talking about. the entire class had to basically teach themselves the material. to make everything worse, the exams are always way harder than anything we've done in class, and often contain types of problems we have never seen or been prepared for. i just took the final and I would be happy if I got a 50 before the curve, which will be a huge one, but probably not enough to get me to pass. i'm far from the best or smartest student, but I worked my ass off to try to pass this class and it just feels completely impossible with her exams. it is painfully obvious she has not been teaching for long. she would make a great middle school or high school science teacher. but for her to teach this class, with how much content there is and how difficult it is, has caused me genuine mental anguish and caused me to hate physics for the first time in my life.

Dr. Sohr is extremely caring and a friendly person in general. She is very lenient when it comes to deadlines and quiz makeup. Lectures weren’t the greatest but it was barely enough to lightly introduce you to the material. They were mostly off of power-points. So get ready to put in some work to truly understand the material. The lecture experience was 10x awful because the class was online. Discussions: My TA, Lisal, was god sent! He reviewed content every week which saved our quiz grades in multiple occasions. The good thing is all the TAs and the prof were extremely easy to reach out outside of class.

So glad I took PHYS260 with her. She was super nice, took time to explain everything, and overall easy. She can be a bit scatterbrained during lecture, but rest assured she knows what she's doing and will make sure you know it. Very fair with her tests and allows equations sheets. Highly reccomend,

She is a new professor, and definitely shows signs of it. Some of her lectures are definitely unorganized and she had to rely on the TAs sometimes to get the information across. However, in the end, we got it and I can see she is getting the hang of it. She moved deadlines all the time when we asked her too. She will go over things repeatedly, and make it clear what is on the exams and what's not. Definitely a good option for this class.

Great teacher especially for physics. I struggled through physics 1 but am doing fairly well in her class (probably getting around an a depending on the final exam and curve) with honestly not too much effort. She’s super nice, great at giving help for homework and preps well for exams. She usually says what’s on the exams sometimes down to the exact problems you’ll see, doesn’t give as hard problems as there can be for this class and will review with similar problems, if they’ve not already been seen on homework or quizzes. First few weeks were a bit rough as she adjusted to teaching but she’s since gotten more organized and become receptive to what the class needs such as going over homework or doing problems rather than strictly lecturing. In the end, I actually feel I understand Physics to a certain extent and found it easy to learn from her and do well in the class, despite originally absolutely dreading having to take physics and expecting to fail.

This professor would be an AMAZING middle school physics/science teacher. For college level, specifically PHYS260, she is extremely lacking and truly seems unfit for the job. Yes, she is a nice person, but she cannot perform the job. She is extremely disorganized, has a slow pace, glances over topics rarely explaining them, and seems very uneasy during lecture. Every class she has clicker questions and gives us about 5 minutes to "talk with our neighbor" and the class becomes silent because we do not know what we are talking about. Lectures are very pointless, so be prepared to do lots of self-study (book is helpful). During our second exam, she was running all around class answering questions and writing facts and values on the board throughout the 50 min period of things she forgot to teach and put on the exam... this added much stress and almost the entire class was left up to the last minute. During "practice problem" before exams, she is extremely lazy with signs and explaining things. She spends more time defining "equilateral" and SOHCAHTOA than the actual PHYSICS of the class. She will zero-in on small points, but never give general steps of how to approach problems and know the physics behind it. A few good points are that she responds to emails (doesn't implement too much feedback) and homework is manageable, maybe one per week. However, not learning much and having few homeworks can lead to trouble down the road for overall understanding. I would not recommend her.

Solely based off her style as a professor, she's one of the worst. Super disorganized, slides never in the right order, she's always flustered, contradicts herself multiple times throughout every lecture and is always called out on it by confused students. The only reason she gets cut some slack is because she does seem like a genuinely nice person but unfortunately, as a professor, you can tell it's her first time because she is just really bad at it (at least as of 2022). Expect to do a lot of self-taught learning in this class because she won't be able to teach you anything.
