This is a very difficult class, but this professor is not bad. He can be sarcastic and kind of rude sometimes, but he means well and wants people to do well. As long as you don't take him too seriously, you'll be okay with him. In terms of the class, keep an excel sheet with all of the practice you do in lecture, it'll be helpful for the exams.

There are definitely students that don't like his class, but as a professor, he's about as chill as they come. He kind of puts on an act when it comes to being a tough professor, but he is rather laid back in terms of workload and grading. There is no mandatory hw for the class (just optional practice problems). The class grade is basically 2 exams and one semester long project. But the professor is very willing to help students. My group reached out to him multiple times on the semester long project asking to meet outside of office hours when none of us had class. He was always willing to set up a time to meet with us and always helped guide us in the right direction. Very smart professor, but can come off of lazy at times. gives a lot of partial credit on exams so they aren't too hard if you study what he says will be on the exam

Easily one of the worst professors I have ever had. Professor Solomon has incredibly boring lectures and pretty much expects you to be an accounting whiz right off the bat. He randomly calls on people in class which is very uncomfortable to sit through, and guess what, you pretty much have to learn all the material on your own. I never felt comfortable asking him questions in class, because he would just respond in a demeaning tone that made you feel terrible about yourself. Doesn't help that the TA was pretty much AWOL for the entire semester. The exams aren't impossible, but he is unbelievably inconsiderate of how long it takes some people to complete the problems.

This class was online and all the lectures were pre recorded and there was a once a week meeting for a review of the material as well as q&A. The professor cold calls people during this period and its quite frustrating to sit through. There are basically 2 exams and a semester long stock pitch presentation so the workload isn't too much. He isn't very helpful and following along through the material by yourself is quite tough, especially for a class like Financial Statement Analysis.

This professor is the least helpful professor I have ever met. He does not teach anything and then when you ask him questions he mocks and makes fun of you in a very demeaning manner. I never knew what was going on in this class and couldn't ask for help if I wanted to. He also timed the amount of time you got in office hours and would cut you off after 30 minutes even if you were still lost (which I always was). If you have the option to, DO NOT take this class with him.

One of the best professors at Smith. Class is very practical towards what first year analysts are expected to know and do. Prof. Solomon knows a lot about finance and can answer practically any question off the top of his head.
