Professor Steinberg is knowledgeable and clearly passionate but I really didn’t love the way she teaches this course. So many unnecessary readings and assignments were very redundant, and you’d get docked points for things that weren’t clearly indicated in the rubric. At no point did I feel like anyone was put in a position to empathize with pro-life sides or consider what compromises between opposing sides would look like— which I think is a missed opportunity to just exercise critical thought, and made the class boring. Really the only time we had energized conversation that provoked thought was occasionally during student-led portions of discussion. I found that lecture was not engaging, but missing it or discussion would lead to docked points. The oral exam was also incredibly out of pocket (asking for specific stats that were not emphasized at all in class or mentioned on the study guide, like having to remember what percentage of U.S. counties have an abortion clinic??). I think she's smart but needs to be more empathetic with students + learn how to make the class way way more engaging

Okay the class was fairly easy, but she is not a great professor. I attended a panel that she spoke on and she was very knowledgeable about the content so I took this class, but she is not a great professor. She has a very monotone voice which causes you to space out. She will then get upset if you are not paying attention. She loses her train of thought constantly and so everyone just kind of looks at each other most of the time. Honestly, there isn't much to talk about for a WHOLE semester when it comes to abortion, so it became very redundant. The TAs were great, they would understand when we had concerns, and they would bring them up to Steinberg. The term project was not well-thought through. There were two sections (one big lecture that would split into two discussion sections). We had to create a TED Talk with an assigned partner. My partner was not in my discussion group and not even in my discussion section. She was in a completely different section than me, which made it harder to communicate and get the project done. The final was an oral final which I did not enjoy. The TA just read me a written question and I would respond. At that point, just given me a written exam. For discussion, you talk to your same discussion small group throughout the whole semester and your group leads discussion twice (which is actually way easier than it sounds). Also, we had name tags, but it didn't seem like she tried to get to know anyone besides the same three people that would dominate conversation. The TAs on the other hand immediately knew my name when they came to my discussion group, and would try to talk to everyone. Overall, the class was easy, but she was not a good professor.

This course was an easy A. Lectures were kind of boring. Professor Steinburg and the TA's were super nice though. Overall I recommend this course.

The course is easy, and she's an easy grader, but you'll lose points if you ignore adding details when doing her assignments. She is very knowledgeable on the topics and can answer almost any question you have. She is understanding, but you must reach out to her beforehand. The content is a little repetitive, and you probably have learned this stuff in other FMSC courses, but it is useful. The midterm was in person, and it was lowkey hard, but other than that, the final and other assignments were online and were easy.

This class is pretty easy, and the content is straightforward. The content gets repetitive, and I wouldn't say Dr. Steinberg is the most engaging lecturer, but she is knowledgeable. The in-class assignments are graded, and only two get dropped. They are given randomly, so attendance is mandatory. Although the work is easy, she is a pretty tough grader. The midterm was the most challenging part of all the other work given in the semester, but the final was a lot easier. They drop many grades as long as you have completed every single assignment given throughout the semester. Overall, Dr. Steinberg is a nice and flexible professor, and as long as you do the work to the best of your ability, you should do well.

Overall, this is an easy course. There are graded in-class assignments, weekly quizzes, two reflections, a presentation, a midterm, a health data project, and the final, and everything is open note except for the midterm. The content can be repetitive but is overall useful. Dr. Steinberg is knowledgeable and flexible, but she is not the most engaging professor and she is also super quiet so maybe sit at the front if you want to hear.

Dr. Steinberg is sweet and does care for her students. In terms of content, FMSC310 is alike many public health courses so it gets a little boring and repetitive, but it is specific to maternal/child health. The class is an easy A as long as you do the work. There are weekly assignments/discussions along with a midterm, final, and a "paper" that summarizes health data, but it is really easy. Please don't take her class if you aren't willing to participate in class discussions, it gets incredibly boring when the same 4 people speak up the entire semester. Like please... you're in college either participate or don't come to class at all.

Great course and super interesting topics, but she’s not a good lecturer and has an attitude when answering questions. Take with another professor and you’ll actually learn the concepts

Sweetest and most understanding professor I have had at Maryland. You can tell she really wants you to succeed. Interesting material and easy exams! Def take if you are going into a health profession.
