Don't know why there is someone complaining about her changing the syllabus, the class is still really easy. She does exam review the class before and even gives us 5-10 questions that will probably be on the exam. Sure, there are listening questions, but they're like one sentence responses max, most are just to put down the genre of music, instruments in a certain piece of music (all pieces of music that is played for the listening part have been played in class, she states that she won't give any curveballs). Its a really straightforward class, and its enjoyable |

Sure she changed her syllabus from last semester, but the exams are really easy. Review the slides, as the exams are basically the info from the slides in MCQ form. She gives you 5-8 of the exam questions in the review in the class before and the exams have extra credit. Super easy. |

I’m taking this class this semester, and while it’s going okay, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. The professor recently updated the syllabus to increase the workload, which definitely makes it more demanding than it was initially. If you’re looking for a Gen Ed, it’s still relatively easy, but there are certainly other options out there that would be a much more guaranteed “easy A.” There are three exams and attendance isn't mandatory; she posts all the lecture slides online, so as long as you’re disciplined enough to review them on your own, you’ll be completely fine. |

The course has changed since the fall. 3 in-person exams that are not too bad, but you still have to study to get by. Not an insanely easy gen ed like before |

Not a super easy gen ed if that's what you're looking for. 3 in-person exams, critical responses each week, and participation points for each month, which are super harshly graded. The in-person exams aren't super difficult, but you still have to allocate time to study. Lectures are interesting, you just listen to music and take notes from the slides. There still is a final project. The course has changed since the fall, so don't look at old reviews. She is nice, though. |

She changed her syllabus from last semester when she was getting 5 stars. There are no more online quizzes and 3 in-person exams worth 10% each in discussion. Course is ok. |

Great class, great professor! Discussions were very interesting, and lectures had multiple avenues of music and different guest speakers. No exams, and quizzes are asynchronous. Would recommend to satisfy Gen Ed or if you’re interested in the overall upbringing of music. |

An HONEST review from an AVERAGE student: This course was actually a pretty fun gen ed for me. The course has lectures (claimed to be mandatory but definitely were not), and covered a wide variety of topics. Discussions are mandatory but nothing difficult covered in them - if you can get Tai as your TA do that though, she was seriously amazing and easy going in class. The only drawback to the course was the amount of writing on discussions (wanting 750 words on very vague topics that could be covered in a few sentences). You also get to make a project on what you find interesting, which actually was fun rather than tedious. The lectures could be pretty boring in general, and I definitely did skip. I would take the course again, and would definitely recommend if you have gen eds you need to complete. |

Professor Steinberg is really sweet and she made all of the content super engaging! We had a few guest lectures, and all of the slides were posted, but not recorded. Quizzes were done on your own time and open note. Most of the work is the discussion board posts and module reflections which are long, but not difficult whatsoever. The final project was fun and did not take a lot of time, you present a portion of it in discussion and get feedback before you actually submit the final thing. The TA grades everything and mine was very nice, so overall a really easy gen-ed and honestly pretty interesting, so I highly recommend taking it! |

Professor Steinberg is super nice and clearly passionate about what she teaches. Her class consists of lectures twice a week, and discussions once a week with a TA, who I also really liked. Throughout the semester many people stopped going to lectures, but I found them interesting and helpful when it came to writing discussion boards and unit reflections. If you give even the littlest bit of effort to pay attention and learn something, her lectures are really interesting and helped me to learn a lot of new things. I definitely recommend this class as a gen ed as it is pretty straightforward but also interesting. If you are interested in music and history, I would take this class where you learn about the impact of music on life both in the past and present. Assignments consisted of multiple choice at-home quizzes, discussion boards, and unit reflections. There are two larger assignments that are research based, but there is ample amount of time to complete them. This class made me broaden my views in relation to culture and music, and I enjoyed it as a general education class. Professor Steinberg was interesting, passionate, and engaging in her lectures. |
