Incredible person and professor. He is an amazing teacher and is so passionate about nonprofits and getting everyone in the class involved. The course is very discussion based, and everyone becomes super close to one another by the end. You have to take this class.

Professor Stillwell is the best professor I've had at UMD, by far. The passion he has for nonprofits and for his students is unmatched, and it shines through in everything he does. He is adaptable, flexible, and genuinely takes constructive criticism and feedback to make the course the best that it can be. The environment he creates is spectacular, and he does an amazing job of making everyone in the class become genuine friends with each other. He facilitates great discussions, and engages each student individually in a way that makes you feel like you WANT to participate, not like you have to. He is incredibly well-qualified to teach, and sees the good in everyone. Don't miss an opportunity to take a class with Professor Stillwell, or you'll regret it. Amazing class, amazing professor and human being.

James Stillwell is the funniest, most personable professor I've ever had. He literally restructured our entire class to be less work and canceled our final exam and assigned a reflection paper instead based on student feedback. The class is very interactive and involves a lot of talking and moving around though so be prepared

Love love love Prof. Stillwell, he made a three hour class go by much faster than it actually was. Most of the work in this class is labor-based, so you'll get an A if you put in the effort to do it. Participating is key to this class, however, and expect to speak in class at least once or twice each week. The majority of your grade is the Changemaker Challenge: consisting of three phases of challenges where you try and make change on your community. This was harder than expected - start early if you want to succeed. Weekly readings were interesting, but sometimes really long - and having to summarize them was definitely the most busy work I've done in a while for a class.

Super sweet professor! Is very outgoing and bubbly but fair warning does love to involve everyone. Very focused on a collaborative environment and truly does not want to lecture the whole time. PLCY380- essentially all completion, 3 major one-month deadlines for a semester-long project, weekly readings, summary slides, in-class participation is necessary to be successful
