NEVER take a class from this guy. Hands down worst professor I've ever had. Just rambles on about nothing that you'll understand, or his entire medical history.

Professor Taranto is great. He is extremely knowledgeable in the field of finance, mathematics, and financial engineering, and he is very excited to teach the material to his students. He is sometimes a little hard to follow during lectures, however, because he often assumes that the students have more background knowledge of the subject matter than we actually do. However, he is more than happy to explain the concepts in a more understandable manner if you shoot him an e-mail with a question or visit him during office hours. Overall, BMGT448E (Computational Finance) was not too bad. The class consisted of two take-home assignments, both of which are pretty easy and have clear directions. Professor Taranto gives you a good idea of what to expect on the midterm, so follow his suggestions and understand his review questions to get a good grade. The final exam did not have an official review sheet with questions, so my suggestion is to try to understand the concepts covered after the midterm by talking with Professor Taranto. Overall, the class is quite interesting and gives undergraduates a good taste of what the field of financial engineering involves.

How has no one reviewed Taranto!? Mark is great, he has a ton of knowledge of financial history and theory all the celeb nobel laureates, etc, and has plenty of good stories. He is also a nice person. He has a lot of Wall Street experience and a varied history. Expect class to be full of case lectures, and Mark will talk a lot. If you take him early in your program, ask him who the good professors or what the good courses are and he will steer you right! You don't use a book in the course per se, but refer to a previous course's book. It's not a breeze, but it won't be a nightmare. You'll get out mostly unscathed if you apply yourself. You will definitely see at least 1 diet pepsi consumed by Professor Taranto each class.
