COMM331 Expecting an A- Anonymous 02/16/2026 |
One of the harshest graders I've ever had. Rebecca expected you to be perfect down to the very last detail from the first assignment she gave you. The due dates were super weird and given that we already had so much to do throughout the week, it left very little time for the big writing assignments due on Saturdays. Although I complained insesantly about her and her class, once you get to talk to her during office hours, you actually start to see her as a kind and helpful teacher who's just trying to make you the best writer you can be. She gives a lot of useful advice but only if you take time out of your day to show her that you care about her class and not just the grade she will assign you. After going to meet with her only one time, I immediately saw my grade begin to improve. |

Rebecca is one of the best teachers I've had at Maryland. She is the sweetest, most caring professor with years of experience in the field of journalism/PR. While the other comments are true in that she sets very high expectations for her students, she does this because she wants to see all her students succeed in the profession. She wants students to make mistakes in her class so that they can avoid them in their professional careers, something anyone can appreciate. As far as deadlines go, because Rebecca is an adjunct professor, her setting deadlines for the weekend when she has time to grade them makes sense, and with the class meeting twice a week (Mon/Wed), as long as you stayed on top of your work, you were fine. Overall, Rebecca cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. |

Class met on Monday and Wednesday yet we had a large majority of important assignments due on Friday and Saturday every week. The workload is pretty heavy, but manageable. The most frustrating part for me is the fact that the due dates for large assignments are on Fridays and Saturdays after having multiple assignments to complete throughout the week, leaving almost no time during the week to work on these assignments. If you have a job outside of school like me, this class will be very frustrating and force deadlines into your life on Fridays and Saturdays when not a single one of my other classes, unless we met in person on Fridays, has ever had assignments due on Saturdays. I understand having assignments due on Sunday so they can be completed before Monday’s class. However, consistently setting due dates on Fridays and Saturdays was frustrating, especially since I specifically arranged my schedule to avoid Friday classes for work; this expectation wasn’t communicated before or at the start of the course. |

Rebecca expects you to be a professional PR news writer the second you enter the class when the only foundation for most students is created from her poor teaching and rushing through the slides. The class itself is definitely a more rigorous course, but different professors may definitely provide you with a better learning experience. |

For a public speaking class, there was a lot of other useless stuff she made us do. She was very tough to work with when doing the work and a very poor/unfair grader. Other Comm teachers are better from what I've seen and heard from my friends. |
