John Constantine Tobin Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/15/2025	I can't stress enough how lovely and amazing of a professor Dr. Tobin is! Content-wise, he brought a mixed media experience to the table (film, novels, poetry, etc.) and I found this so fascinating as it was different from other courses I've taken. I will say, this course in particular was very discussion-heavy so the class really relies on the student for it to function but as someone mentioned in their comment, he doesn't cold-call but he definitely encourages participation. Dr. Tobin is also just someone who genuinely cares about his students, seriously. I've had to miss class a few times due to some personal issues and he was incredibly understanding and didn't once question me for it. I definitely recommend taking a course with him if you can--truly an amazing professor!
John Constantine Tobin Expecting an A- blueterp310 05/08/2025	I had Professor Tobin for ENGL359G, a special topics class discussing Queer Time and Queer Media Across Time. Professor Tobin is such an incredible human being. All the content we covered was very fascinating and we had very in-depth conversations regarding the topics and also just life in general. As this was special topics, this specific section won't be taught again but I don't doubt that his other classes are very discussion-based based so make sure you come to class prepared with the reading and contribute, but it's also okay if you don't he won't cold-call you! He's a very easy going and relatable professor so if you truly need something he'll do his best to accommodate you! He truly cares about the well-being of his students and is always a resource for you if you need help.
John Constantine Tobin Expecting an A Anonymous 12/05/2024	HE IS AMAZING! Business Writing ENGL394 totally changed how I see English courses. The assignments were super practical (like writing thank-you letters I actually used), and Dr. Tobin made everything feel relevant and fun. He’s super approachable, always quick to respond to emails, and shares personal stories that make class enjoyable. If you want a professor who really cares and keeps things engaging, take his class—you won’t regret it!
John Constantine Tobin ENGL394 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/05/2024	I loved Professor Tobin! He is a super down-to-earth and interesting person. He teaches this class using real examples from his life which I found connected it well to my learning style. He is very flexible with deadlines and helps students if you communicate with him and he is genuinely a professor who wants everyone to do well. Would totally recommend him to anyone needing to take business professional writing!
John Constantine Tobin ENGL398R Expecting an A+ Anonymous 11/04/2024	I have never written a review for a professor before, but Dr. Tobin is a relatively new, yet great professor. I had him for ENGL398R (Creative non-fiction writing) which I took as my professional writing gen-ed requirement. I cannot recommend him enough. He cares about each individual student, and his class was small and discussion-based, allowing you the opportunity to work very closely with him. He puts in effort to get to know each of his students, something which I feel is severely lacking in other courses. The course is structured around students submitting creative non-fiction works on a bi-weekly basis. You will spend class time presenting what you wrote and then discussing it with Dr. Tobin and the other students. The environment that Dr. Tobin creates allowed students in my section to share very personal stories which he handled with respect and honesty. If you're worried about "writing too much", don't be. There was a 4000 word requirement... for the semester. The final was very manageable and amounted to revising the work I had already done throughout the semester and submitting it in a final portfolio. His expectations are clear, and he is very understanding with deadlines. I genuinely felt like Dr. Tobin wanted to see all of us improve as writers, even if we weren't that interested in writing. In fact, he urges his students to pursue publication and spent multiple classes going through a step-by-step process on how to do so. Overall, he is a kind, understanding person and a professor that wants the best for you, no matter where you are in life. I wish more people knew about Dr. Tobin and ENGL398R. It's a hidden gem among professional writing courses. Summary: Dr. Tobin is a great professor and even kinder person. His ENGL398R class is stress-free and highly preferable to the more popular technical writing course most students take. If you get the chance, take his course.
John Constantine Tobin Anonymous 01/09/2024	One of the most friendly and welcoming professor I have ever meet. Her is super understanding and flexable of deadlines. He actually cares about his students and is a great teacher. His assignments and super clear and straight forward.
John Constantine Tobin ENGL101 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/06/2023	sweetest professor ever. cares about his students and will take time to help with assignments. The course workload is pretty much the same as all the other English 101s workload so the workload doesn't really differ, but I would recommend taking him he is so nice and caring.
