Please Please Please DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I wish I read the reviews before registering. He makes the class wayyyyyyy more complicated than it's suppose to be. He is a tough grader and when he fails you on something, he doesn't take the time to to explain why. He will just say "check the lecture notes". He is also VERY SPECIFIC about the way he wants the assignments done. If you don't do it his way, even if your way is right, he will grade it wrong. Finally, the final project is unnecessarily long and too much work. It has to be like over 20 pages. Please save yourself the stress and mental breakdown and avoid this class. I am literally so annoyed every time I walk in to that class and I can't wait to be done |

My biggest gripe with Professor Todd is his complete lack of organization and his inability to use the ELMS page. How does one become a professor at a large research university WITHOUT being able to use Canvas? Needless to say, his ELMS page is a nightmare. It seems like it should be a core requirement, especially in 2024. He loves to overcomplicate otherwise straightforward tasks and fear-monger by threatening to give you a failing grade if you hand something in late. He loves his tea, which is fine, but what is not fine is leaving class in order to do it. The irony of this is that he is a stickler for punctuality and will be very irritated if you are late. However, he is never on time himself and leaves to make his tea midway through class. Avoid him at all costs. I know that professional writing is a GenED but please choose someone else. |

Don't take this professor if you want an easy A. This professor is pretty strict with grading and gives out a lot of assignments so his class isn't going to be a gen-ed course that you can finesse your way through. That being said, I think Dave Todd is a great professor. As long as you go to lectures, take notes, and submit everything on time, you should be fine in the course. He communicates pretty clearly in his lectures how he wants the assignments done and how to do them. As long as you follow his guidelines and show that you tried on the assignment, he will give you a good grade. He has a lot of good tips and advice when it comes to professional writing as well. I learned a lot in this class and I really think it was a valuable part of my education. I do have some complaints though. The ELMS page for this class is a nightmare. It's obvious he doesn't know how to use it because every single ELMS post he makes (assignments, announcements, documents, class objectives) he posts as an ASSIGNMENT with due dates and everything. Every week my ELMS app would ping me saying I have 6-8 assignments due for the course when really only 1-2 of them were assignments. And yeah, I can confirm what the other reviews say about him showing up late to almost every class. To be fair, none of the students showed up to that class on time either and a lot of the time he would have to wait for more people to show up to start class. |

Please God do not take any classes taught by this professor. This is probably the first review I have ever written on this site and it is because I believe it is imperative to avoid this professor at all costs. The workload for his version of this class are far more then basically every other version of ENGL394, and the way he explains everything makes no sense. He also just makes everything far more complicated then it needs to be, and the final project for the class can be basically over 20 pages. I haven't even mentioned the worst part about this professor, which is the fact that he basically shows up 15-20 minutes late to every class. It is actually unreal how often he would just stroll in 20 minutes late. It was probably the most disrespected I have felt as a student. I agree with the other comments, do not take this class with him no matter what. |

The most logistically challenged professor. Avoid him at all costs. Somehow finds a way to overcomplicate the most simple tasks and manages to waste your time through it all. Many people complain about his habit of starting every class fifteen minutes late but that's not even that bad when considering just how complicated he makes the structure of the class. His ELMS course has a thousand different due dates on it, half of which he tells you to ignore- whch makes it even harder to find what's actually due. The frustration when realizing you lose a couple points from an assignment simply because the course structure on ELMS didn't prepare you for it is nothing short of an embarassment for this institution. Just a terribly organized professor who ought to change his ways. In terms of his teaching ability however, I would say he is average and unremarkable. You'll certainly gain some value from this class but it'll be a hell of a lot easier with a professor who knows what they're doing. |

Professor cares about his student's success but does not communicate assignment procedures well. He is very unorganized, his elms page is a mess and as a result, much of his instructions are unclear. Additionally, he often leaves the beginning of class for 5 min or so to get TEA which I find discourteous considering students are paying for the course. |

Literally the worst professor ever. Is always at least 5-10 minutes late to every class, and is NOT clear at all on any instructions whatsoever. We are doing class online and he spends at least an hour explaining what is due and changing due dates and deadlines when he could just make a SCHEDULE ON THE SYLLABUS and an ASSIGNMENTS TAB. His writing is incoherent even though he’s a lawyer. Very disorganized and nobody ever knows what is due. Do not take his class. |
