I would have given two stars because she acts nice (not a given so I usually want to acknowledge it) but I couldn't this time. Firstly, I can never understand what she is saying, and if you fall behind in understanding even over a few minutes in lecture, you will never be able to figure it out from the later information. The topics were also not well covered at all. Honestly, if she spent half of the time she took teaching the concepts and put that into doing more practice problems that would be great. The homeworks are absolutely awful, and unfortunately are mostly on the same level as the exams so you need to know how to do them to do well on the 65% of your grade from the two exams (I found that redoing them later was a great way to study). The true reason she is getting one star is because on exam one a terrible TA gave zero partial credit for a 30% of our exam grade problem (9% of our total grade). My friend said they originally got a 2/30 on the problem when they had completely correct work, except they misread a variable value given in the problem statement. They redid the original work with the only change being them using that correct value and showed how this led to every correct solution from the solution guide for that problem to the professor. The professor originally agreed that since their work was correct they should have gotten credit (and they did take another method toward the answer but Tubaldi said it should have gotten credit since the method works). Later, Tubaldi went against this, and my friend's final grade is now 5% less than it should be because of this. This is one star worthy since this professor not only cannot teach, but also does what is easy not what is right (not changing my friend's grade for no good reason) when giving grades that are supposed to reflect a student's understanding |

[Taken Spring 2025] As someone who did so-so in the class (B-), I'd like to say that my sentiment leans far closer to the negative reviews than to the positive ones. I find the reviewers that are white knighting Tubaldi to be incredibly annoying and condescending (which to be fair are both extremely common traits within mechanical engineering majors), and believe that they are giving her far too much credit. The whole class stems around developing the ability to represent one and two degree of freedom systems using either lagrange or force balance equations, and I found it difficult to learn as every system is different from the last and requires either great conceptual understanding of how the system moves or extreme memorization of how certain elements correspond to certain terms within your governing equations. The primary issue with Tubaldi is she doesn't teach you the thought process required to write these equations at all. The majority of her lectures are spent completing derivations which aren't practically useful in any way, and her completion of a few examples here and there failed to explain how you're supposed to tackle the problems. The examples and homeworks didn't prepare me well for the exams at all really- they're just hard and I found myself doing the best I could to get partial credit and do them mostly right (I fell in the D range on both the midterm and the final). The last thing I want to mention is that Tubaldi totally blew me off when it came to communication via email. Upon completing the final I was convinced very incorrectly that I had totally failed the class (I needed above a 44%) and was in the process of subletting my apartment. Not knowing my fate I simply emailed her to ask about the timeline of when the exam grades were released and if there was going to be a period to review the exam and argue for points prior to the release of the final grades. Of course, she ignored me completely despite follow ups and after like two weeks released the final grades without ever revealing the final exam grades. This lack of communication could have really screwed me over as I could've subletted my apartment before realizing I needed to stay for the summer to retake. Keeping students updated should be a bare minimum requirement for a professor and she failed miserably. All in all, I'm going with two stars just because they seem to not want to fail people by how relatively forgiving they are with the grading. |

Nah all other reviews are crashouts that failed the midterm (easiest exam of my life no joke) and couldn't do well on the final. Went into office hours once and the other students there didn't even seem to attempt to understand the shit going on. Like A month past midterm 1 they still didn't know the lagrange or force balance method to get an equation of motion (almost all of exam 1). So yea im crashing out on the other students. Tubaldi goes over example problems in class and if you knew how to do those then you'd be set for the midterm, and if you do well on the midterm you can get a 50% on the final and pass with a B (midterm 30% and final 35%). Homework sets have ~5 problems only which one is graded for accuracy and all others on completion due every 1-2 weeks. Also no curve in the class, just extra points on the exams. Combining lectures to get the method on how to solve the problems and reading the textbook to understand the material is the meta for the class. Dick up lol bros and lock in |

She is amazing. DO NOT LET THE CRASH OUT STUDENT SCARE YOU. She is a genuine professor that cares about her student and is willing to help when asked. She doesn't curve but she does offer extra credit and is a very lenient grader. IF YOU DO NOT SUCCEED IN THIS CLASS IT A YOU PROBLEM. |

This class needs to be restructured completely. Simply reading off of slides during lecture time and not doing any problems is a complete waste. This professor is terrible, but I think the problem goes further than that. The review session for the first midterm had problems that were way too difficult that the TA just skipped over them. The second review session was also a joke since the other TA just re-did homework problems and a few basic ones that we already have solutions to. Also whoever does the handwritten solutions needs to take a basic handwriting course... |

This class was ridiculous. I had to learn concepts from my friend's notes from a previous semester because I genuinely couldn't process her lectures. They were filled and hard to understand during class that I gave up trying to take notes. The fact that there's no discussion/studio for the class made it even worse. |

Lectures are terrible. Handwriting is so awful that you spend half the time frantically trying to copy and decipher at the same time. The topics are not easy but the lectures are just salt on the wounds. I learnt more from quizzes than most of the lectures combines. Good fuckin luck Yu is marginally better, but dont expect any improvements of understanding or your mental health |

I really tried to give Tubaldi the benefit of the doubt despite her ratings, however, she was extremely difficult to learn from. I have never gotten below a B+, and I am currently sitting at a C+. I have never reviewed a professor before, but this class quite literally ruined my entire semester. |

She genuinely could not get across the material in a way anyone could understand. I have never seen a lecture hall so empty because there was no point in going to her lectures. She would just go through the slide show and did not do enough examples to make the topics make sense. You can teach yourself the class if you have the right materials and a good study group. |

Honestly just reviewing because I am not convinced any review of hers above a 3 star is not herself getting on here and boosting her score. Atrocious lectures to say the least. Speed runs through these slide decks of over 80 slides. And boy her handwriting is actually abysmal. I honestly think an infant could pick up a pen for the first time and produce cleaner writing than her. |

Took this class last spring. Clearly Tubaldi cares about students and the content, but this class is massive.I feel like my issues with the course came down to this course needing to be divided. 200 students is way too many and why do I need to walk so far? |

In recent lectures, there have been more examples and practice problems which has been helpful. I find the lectures a little difficult to follow at times, but giving some time to do the problems ourselves develops the skills necessary for homework and exams, and doing problems by hand allows everyone to follow each step and ask questions if they do not understand. This is a hard class when taught focusing on practical applications and solving problems which to my knowledge, is different from how some other professors teach it, but if you want to gain a deep understanding of how to apply vibrations and controls to physical systems, I would recommend taking this version of the class. |

Absolutely useless for lectures, it's a self taught course completely when Yu switches off with her. |

Her lectures are by far some of the worst I’ve been through. She seems very smart which leads me to believe she’s here for research not to teach. She rushes through examples and breezes past large concepts. Retaking the same class she’s done such a poor job teaching with a new professor truly gave me some clarity about just how bad of a professor she is. |

Impossible homework with the way she teaches. Lecture was my least favorite part of every week. Lecture slides were confusing and 60+ slides long. First class I have ever had to withdraw from. Content is definitely difficult, but she made it much harder than it needed to be. |

I took it when it was co taught with Yu and honestly everyone in the class can agree when it was her time to teach you weren't learning anything. |

I disagree with previous comments. Maybe it depends on the class, but I found her to be an engaging professor who not only did examples in class but provided us with supplementary examples out of class. Very helpful during office hours. |

Talks very fast and lectures straight off of the slides. She does no examples in class. You don't stand a chance on homeworks/exams if you're relying on this teacher. |

Honestly she seems really smart but I didn't learn much from her. Her and Prof Yu traded off teaching different sections last semester. Way too theory based and even that is skimmed over too quickly. She'd go weeks without doing any in-class examples, which hit you like a brick when you saw the assigned HW. Good during office hours, but in class... nah. bonus points for agreeing to push back the first exam though |
