I feel like this course had a lot of potential. There are some fun activities that we did like role playing as management and investors and we would debate. But there are some aspects of the class that I did not like. To start off, his grading is kind of vague and what his expectations are. For example, it is unclear how he gauges engagement and participation in class. But no matter how much you participate, he never gives 100%. And his case studies are interesting. There's a lot of productive ways to dissect a company. But if it doesn't follow a certain formula, it's docked off a lot of points. I can get it but also, if you're limiting students to only 500 words on a case study, it's hard to fit this criteria. Even if you have great arguments or points, he's looking for certain key words on your case study. Overall, class is okay, but it has a lot of potential. The professor is a little dry but he's very knowledgable. Grades and expectations are very vague and not clearly defined. I feel like his grades are purposely artificially deflated so many students don't get an A. |

I am a senior and this has been by far my favorite class taken at UMD. First of all, the professors are extremely engaging and genuinely care about their students success. The concepts in class are very interesting and extremely helpful to all business majors, you can and should use them during your interview process as well. I think this is a class that everyone should take regarding the value in the lessons learned. It is also very fun. Participation is important but it isn't hard as the professors will call you out in class. If you are unsure of the answer they will walk you through figuring it out which greatly enhances your learning. They go assignments during class so we learn what the correct answers are, why, and how to get to them. I recommend to take this course and I am very happy to have done so. |
