Definitely one of the better professors I have had (while also not being a classics major). Lectures you could probably skip, discussion was definitely mandatory you would get like a weekly assignment from it and that made up a good bulk of the grades (The assignment was so easy they were lit just checking to see if you have any idea on the book). There were no big exams, just 3 quizzes, but those were also fairly easy, just asking for plot points regarding the books read, and an analysis of a passage. Along with that, the remaining grades were 2 eassys (final and draft versions), which were pretty long, but she gave like 2 months per essay. The only critique about the class was that there was a TON of reading, but you can probably read summaries and get an overall idea of whats going on. Plus during lecture, she would do a great job of summarizing the parts that were assigned for reading, so you could honestly get the main jist of the book from that. |

This class was such a blast. Professor Wasdin is such a big part of why I enjoyed it so much, she's an absolutely amazing professor that made lectures so captivating and fun. She's also very approachable and understanding. The discussions are a bit duller but they weren't too bad and just attending and writing something somewhat decent gives you an easy 100 on the reading response. The grading is also really fair, as long as you stay on top of the readings and work on the two essays (which you get ample time for and really helpful draft comments) you can get a fairly easy A. Do be aware that if you don't enjoy reading or are not interested in greek mythology/literature I would advice you to stay away from this class. There is a pretty heavy amount of reading you have to do for the class and I don't think online summaries really do the trick due to the niche nature of the texts and the high level of detail in the quiz questions. Overall really fun class and an easy A if you're passionate about the subject and have the time to read. |

This class wasn't too bad if you enjoy reading and learning about romance. The readings were extremely heavy to manage in a week and it's easy to fall behind. You can't necessarily afford to fall behind because if you do then you won't do well on the three quizzes that you have each semester. The quizzes are worth 30% of your grade so it's important that you do well on them to do well on the class. Also, the discussion is mandatory because of the writing piece that you have to complete every Friday so overall this gen-ed isn't easy and honestly requires too much work. |

This class is best for you if you already have interest/knowledge of classics or Greek mythology. The readings are pretty lengthy, but I found most of them entertaining. However, the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 3 is because Professor Wasdin is amazing! She’s so funny and sarcastic, it makes up for the fact that I barely understood some of the reading assigned. The course would be almost miserable without her. The discussions were kind of boring sometimes but the TA tried to make it interesting. Some of the language in the readings are hard to understand, especially if you don’t have knowledge of classics like I did. The grading isn’t harsh which is nice, and most of your grade is composed of the response questions, where you have to try to not get 100. So, unless you bomb the quizzes/essays, it’s hard to fail. |

Professor Wasdin is a wonderful professor! She is very kind and funny, and as a person is understanding of personal matters. I would say that this class would be a great choice for a GenEd if you enjoy reading. If not though, I'd be careful. The classwork itself isn't too difficult, but the lack of homework can somewhat lead to a false sense of security, because skipping the readings/not reviewing them makes the 3 quizzes almost impossible, as the questions are hyper specific and span weeks of material. Overall, the class can be an easy A if you stay on top of the readings. I looked at summaries towards the end and was able to still do well, but it would've been easier if I had just done the readings when they were assigned. That being said, if your schedule is already full, be wary, as the load of material is heavy. |

Professor Wasdin is an amazing professor! She is very nice and funny, and usually very understanding of personal matters. For the class itself, I would say if you like to read, go for it! It has lots of interesting things, but I found that the volume of readings to be a little difficult to manage at times. Also, the quizzes are very specific about things from the texts, and you'll be quizzed on a lot of material at once, so studying is very important. Again, if you like to read I would definitely recommend the class, but only if you really like reading. Wasdin herself though always made the lectures interesting, and she really knows her stuff! |

Dr. Wasdin is a great lecturer, but this class is definitely not an easy gen-ed (unless you are used to heavy reading/writing). There are a lot of assigned readings that you SHOULD do, since there are reading quizzes (additionally, the Greek novels are super niche and you won't find any reliable online summaries on them). Discussions are mandatory with graded responses, and the essays are very time-consuming. The course content is really interesting, and I'm glad I took the class, but beware of the load it will add. |

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you need a gen-ed. They are definitely sweet people, but the class is structured more for people interested in classics. The course had so many readings, and for most (if not all) of the required texts and books, summaries did not help. The essays they assigned only had one prompt that wasn't so classically based, and they were very time-consuming. Oftentimes, the language in the texts was hard to understand, and even if you tried to look it up, it wouldn't be anything helpful. The discussion was a waste of my time as we would have to answer questions based directly from the readings and the TA would yap pretty much the whole time. |

DO NOT TAKE if you want a simple gen-ed. The professor and TAs themselves are sweet. But the course had so much reading and you can't google summaries for such readings since the quizzes test you in detail about the reading. You also have to write essays with heavy readings which can be time-consuming. The readings are also very niche with complicated classical literature English so it is hard to find explanations and summaries online (in case you want to save time and find a way around the readings). |

From the perspective of a junior in need of gen ed credits, this class was exactly what I was hoping for. I'd say its an easy gen ed since theres no official homework and your grade is primarily made up of discussion section responses which in my experience have always been given 100's. There are 3 "quizzes" throughout the semester but they are basically just exams in terms of their impact on your grade. They consist of easy multiple choice questions and a written response which is pretty much rhetorical analysis, and its not terribly hard nor is it graded too harshly. I think this class is kind of what you make of it- it can be a lot of work if you do all the readings as suggested and you may get a lot out of the class if you do them but you could also just do what I did and read the summaries which will still allow you to succeed in the class while minimizing the work load. The only sources of true work in the class are the two essays you have to write but you get plenty of time to do them and once again the grading is fairly lenient. Professor Wasdin runs the class very fairly as I have described and creates an environment that reminds me a lot of AP Lit in high school, so if you're into that experience she's a terrific professor. Honestly, you could get away with going to the lectures as long as you familiarize yourself with the material prior to discussion and the quizzes. Overall, I'd say this class is excellent as a gen ed although you should probably take the easiest ones (like CCJS100 or the entrepreneurship type classes) first and then take this as needed to fill your remaining credits. |

Dr. Wasdin is the best! This class itself is rather heavy and we talk about serious topics, but Dr. Wasdin makes it interesting. There are many readings for each class, but to be honest, you can get by even if you don't read every single reading. There are many assignments in this class that accumulate in a final paper, which can be nice to boost your grade, but do take a good amount of time if you want to do well on them. Dr. Wasdin does actually read through your assignments and gives lots of helpful feedback and is very responsive over email and if you have questions. The class has a midterm and a final that both require you to write essays but are not actually that bad if you general know the material and prepare in advance. |

Really nice professor who is passionate about greek mythology. Although there was a lot of reading and essay work, I didn't actually read the greek myths but looked over her slides and looked up her weekly terms to study for the exams which is really useful, also used sparknotes to look up the summary. You can definitely get an A in the class without actually reading her assigned readings. |

Professor Wasdin is awesome! She KNOWS her mythology. She is so sweet, and willing to answer questions in class. She is super approachable, and wants everyone to understand the content/do well. Her lectures can be a little dry at times, but for the most part I found them very interesting! I took CLAS170 for a gen-ed, and ended up really enjoying the content. There is a lot of reading, essay writing, and memorizing, but if you put in the work you will do well!! TAs were awesome too! |

dr wasdin is a great lecturer and knows her mythology. i really enjoyed her class and it made me enjoy learning more about myths. there are a lot of readings, however, if you go to lecture/discussion and pay attention, you'll be fine and probably wont have to read much outside of class. there were 3 essays, a midterm, and a final. she posts study guides for each week and she always tell us what is on the midterm or final and what she expects for each essay. ALSO, if you need an extension for a paper, just ask her and she'll give you as much time as you need. there were also weekly responses, however those are easy and short. dr. wasdin is also a pretty quick responder when it comes to emails and she always is very helpful. |

Dr. Wasdin is smart, considerate, and passionate about classics. Her class certainly isn't easy, but Wasdin is always more than happy to answer questions, give advice, or even read and review your work outside of class. The readings can be dense and dry, but Wasdin helps this by interacting with the material and breaking down topics in lecture. |
