Exams are fair, I didn't think his lectures were worth my time, but he gave out attendance quizzes so I went anyway. No idea how much the quizzes are worth. I took the Honors version and the only difference was a dedicated discussion and an extra three or four homework problems total, which was nothing. This is definitely an easy H-version compared to others I've taken.

*This is a review for Phys261 Lab* Note: My grade in lab was an A, but because I got a C in 260, I got a C in lab unfortunately. Anyways, this class is taught by your TA, and I had Ryan Maunu. He was great! He had notes to help us and always checked our work. He would try to give you hints to get you in the right direction. This was my first lab course, and it wasn't difficult if you came prepared. Met only every other week.

Wellstood might be the best lecturer I've had in college so far, but the problem is that he seems to cover significantly less in lecture than the other professors do. Everybody in our sections thought the combined final was impossible, but the others thought it was easy.

The best part of Wellstood's class is that it is taught by a reasonable physics professor- meaning that his expectations of busy engineering students are fair. He prepares the class well for all three exams. The final was hard, but he gave us fair warning and offered a review session.

Great teacher! He was helpful and very interested in his work. His exams were fair and offered make ups for the first two. He is also very nice if you visit him during his office hours. Would take again.

By far one of the best professors in thy physics department...he goes the extra mile to ensure that his students understand the important concepts of physics. Dr. Wellstood also includes in-class experiments to supplement the material; all were very interesting, especially once the electromagnetism units were covered. This is not an easy class, but Dr. Wellstood is definitely one of the greatest professors I have had thusfar

one of the best physics professors in the school. explains concepts clearly and has very straightforward exams. he's willing to spend as much time with you during office hours as you need and puts your needs first. if you go to lecture, quizzes are easy since he gives the answers right after he asks the questions. if your not happy with your exam, he always gives makeups. pretty much, he gives you every opportunity in the world to do well.

Professor Wellstood is an absolutely awesome physics teacher. Every lecture, he presents information in a clear, organized, and thorough fashion, taking the time to explain why things are how they are, and how they are useful to you. He is very approachable and understanding, and he actually responds to e-mails, even when they're about really stupid things. Tests are challenging, but definitely fair, and there is a review session for each one. There are also sample exams which may not be entirely representative as to the difficulty of the actual test, but are great practice. There were even make-ups for the first two midterms. Homework is a huge portion of the grade, so it's important to start it early to make sure you don't get stuck when it's too late to ask questions. There's also some material on the masteringphysics assignments that isn't covered in class because it's not important enough to be on a test. Trust me, if you take Wellstood and go to every single lecture, you will really learn the material, and even get to watch some pretty sweet demos.

The professor explained the concepts well and engaged the class even though I don't particularly like physics. His examples are quite useful in understanding the material. His tests are fair in that he tests main concepts and not strange obscure problems. In fact I took him for both phys161 and phys26o because he is much better than the other physics professors. His tests reviews are extremely helpful.

I don't think there is any sane person who would have any complaint WHATSOEVER with this professor. I think he might actually be a godsend to reward us cursed engineering students. He responds to e-mails, cares about his students, basically gives away the exams with his review sessions, Gave MAKE-UP exams for two exams last semester in 161 (I don't think you heard me right, let me say that again: THE MAN GAVE TWO MAKE UP EXAMMMMMMMSSSSSSS!!!!!!!), has a fun, quirky attitude in lecture, explains all the concepts behind equations in PROSE AND INDENTIFIES THEM PHYSICALLY, has cool fun demoes sporadically, I could spent all day listing his qualities. I took him for 161, have him right now in 260 (and btw the first exam was easier than expected, lol), and damn sure plan to take him for 271. I don't care what you expect to get from the class, how you want your tests to be, how you want the professor to teach, or your general level in physics (he could teach a monkey about fluid dynamics) -- Wellstood is the high school physics teacher who came to answer all of your prayers!

Softball class, especially if you have had some Physics in high school. Wellstood is a great professor, going through derivations and a few examples in class. A bit nitpicky when it comes to grading, although if you attend review sessions and/or pay attention in class, he tells you what he expects and how he grades. Homework is sometimes harder than what is covered in lecture, but that's what discussion's for. Tests are surprisingly easy, although the final is a bit tricky. Overall, a good experience. As someone with a good background in mechanics, this class took little time and effort. Even for someone new to physics, it shouldn't be too bad.

Professor Wellstood has been my favorite teacher this Fall 2009 semester. His class is fun, and very informative with great examples to use for the homework. He is approachable and will also answer any questions you may have. The mastering physics homework is also helpful and really makes the students think. His examinations are very difficult but they are ALL curved (so is the class) so just do as well or better than the class average and you should get at least a B in the class. One last thing, if you completely bomb any of the examines, he will allow you to complete a make-up examine! How many professors allow students to get another attempt at the material? None that i know of.

Dr. Wellstood is an amazing professor. He's the best physics professor I've had, not only does he know the material, he is capable of getting the important points across to his students (which is no mean feat for science and math classes). He really cares for his students and does everything possible to help us. Go to his office hours and he's very willing to give you his time to explain the things that you might not understand. His syllabus is set in a way to give you the best chance of getting an A in his class he puts a lot of weight in the homework and attendance. His exams are challenging and many people have a difficult time getting the hang of them. But go to lecture, do your home work, and go to review. He has a habit of putting things on there are test whether or not you understand the material and are able to apply it, not if you can redo problems that you've seen. So it really depends on how much effort you are willing to put in to actually learning the material. Basically, take him if you want a little challenge and want to LEARN the material.

EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! Dr. Wellstood truly cares about his students and goes the extra mile to make sure he is doing everything possible to be of assistance when help is needed. He personally grades exams, so he gets to know your strengths and weaknesses in the subject material. Dr. Wellstood makes sure that all students understand the essentials of Physics I (i.e. vectors, proper notation, etc.), all of which are critically important in all sciences/math/engineering. The class is challenging, but it is a necessary class for all engineering majors (and no physics class is easy). Dr. Wellstood is by far one of the greatest professors in the physics department.

Professor Wellstood is awful! First of all... he SMELLS SO BAD all the time! Please do us a favor and take a shower! Second... his exams are so hard! They are nothing like lecture, homework, or discussion. The old exams are sometimes helpful, but not that much. Don't take him!

Amazing teacher. very clear and comprehensive with his lectures. you will definitely want to go to all of the lectures and take notes since they are extremely helpful. He takes the extra effort to emphasize the important points and theorems and try to incorporate demonstrations to illustrate certain points (makes the class so much more interesting). His animated character and love for physics is quite contagious (will keep you entertained and awake in class). Although his examples are graded a bit more carefully, it is very reasonably done so since the problems are basically exactly like the posted sample examples and he will go over the entire sample example at the review sessions (if you can't make it, he will go over the sample exam with you in office hours). His lectures are also thorough enough to warrant for the difficulty level of the test. Definitely do all of the mastering physics hw! they are very helpful. To succeed in this class: 1. attend and stay awake for all his lectures 2. do all the mastering phys hw 3. do sample exam and go to review session

Professor Wellstood is very smart and very knowledgeable about physics, so much so that I felt like his teachings and his expectations for you as a student went beyond what is necessary. Classes were okay. You definitely want to take notes, as a couple exam questions here and there will come from what is discussed in lecture. Homework was relatively easy, as the problems were straight out of the book. However, you can have a great understanding of how to do all of the problems in the book/homework and then his test questions come straight outta "no-man's land". Exams are SOOO HARD!! Exam questions that are nothing like the homework problems and oftentimes the type of problems that were never covered in class. If you take his class, DEFINITELY study the old sample exams; exams are ususally very similar to old exams and are very helpful. He doesn't post answers to these old exams, you HAVE to attend his review sessions (usually in the evening, day before exam) in order to obtain the solutions. Also, he provides a curve based on a bell statistical distribution. AVERAGE grades were usually like a 45 for my class; he already anticipates offering a make-up exam before giving the actual exam. Harsh grading; real big on vector notation. If I had to take this class again, I'd definitely look to take it with another professor. Please!

This class had 3 tests, alot of homework and a final. Overall the professor explains the concepts pretty clearly, but the majority of my learning was from reading the book itself and doing practice problems. The homework is not difficult, but if the computer software is likely to drive you crazy. For Ilearn which was used when I took it, the solutions were basically needed to make sure that the right sig figs were used. Overall, this class has a major curve because of all the slackers. I am pretty sure I had an A without the curve so its not really difficult unless you try to learn everything last minute.
