Professor Wesley is a relatively nice guy, and I am sure he did well in the industry, however, he is not fit to be an undergraduate professor. His lectures are extremely dry, his grading is aggressive and unclear, and his TA's grading is almost worse. I did appreciate that he took the time to leave comments, however he had no rubric or answer key to follow up. He has lengthy assignments each week, all of which require reading a 20-ish page case and completing a detailed matrix and/or quiz. He additionally does not allow laptops or tablets during class, so be prepared to write everything. Attendance is graded, and so is class participation. He only posts some of his slides, that have little to no detail, and does not share the useful ones. I am an A- to A+ student, and it was a struggle in this course. If you have to take this course make sure to go above and beyond from the beginning, or your grade will drop quickly. Also, be prepared for him to not give straight answers to any of your questions. |

He is fine. His lectures were fine but not great. We had to read case studies which could be interesting but we had assignments based off them after each one. Would have been fine but he can be a tough grader. His feedback on assignments is generally confusing and unhelpful. But the class was not too hard. There was a lot of group work and a few group projects. I think there was one exam as the midterm which was not awful and you got a cheat sheet. Once again though, he can be a tough grader and usually expects something extremely specific, so do not expect a 100% on anything. |

Clarence Wesley and his class are both awful. I would rate him ZERO stars if this platform allowed it. He has absolutely no guideline or structure for assignments. The most instruction provided is a word count. He is very hostile, rude, and not understanding of the student perspective. When making a point and addressing a concern, he will just give you a blank, dumbfounded stare as if one shouldn't be vocal about a grade dispute. He continuously repeats the same material during class and altered my name when addressing me several times even when speaking with him on a one-on-one basis. He also NEVER apologized after he was corrected. Wesley does not care about students and their well-being. His TA, Tomi, has no input on anything, whatsoever. He is just a body in the classroom and the true definition of a teacher's pet. Wesley's first and only resort is encouraging a student to withdraw from the course and is not flexible in exploring other options. His lessons lack a large amount of substance. "Turn and talk to a neighbor" were part of his everyday script and mentioned a minimum of at least eleven times in a SINGLE session (it was so ineffective and monotonous that I actually counted how many times he said it). He operates his class at a very poor and unproductive standard which proved to be both unacceptable and confusing especially from a student point of view. Avoid this professor and his courses at ALL costs!! |

The professor is a great guy, and enjoys what he is teaching about. That being said though, his lectures became dry and slow past about 10 minutes into the lecture. In addition, I wanted to interact more with the materials of the course, but there was nothing to interact with as the assignments were limited and there was no drive from the professor to continue a conversation and think more deeply about the topics of the course. |

Nobody knew what he was expecting on any assignment. Never gave full credit for anything (literally). 90% chance this will just end up being the most confusing A-/B+ of your academic career. |

Wesley's class apparently has no actual rubric or direction for the assignments that are a huge percentage, as well as a lack of connection to the established 495 curriculum. There is no guidance on how to do the matrixes or quizzes. Long amount of times on the weekends working on the matrixes and slides. On the final exam review day, he said to come with questions as he would not be able to answer them after that, and proceeded to not answer any questions. Also he had not actually written up an exam by the final exam review class. Would avoid taking him if possible. |

Take Wesley's class if you like a B grade or like to spend tons of time on weekend for the case matrix and quizzes. He has a UMD guidance (Target GPA for the course is 3.25) to follow; however, his students has no guidances to follow in the case matrix and other writings. It would be a fortune if he gave you 85% score on those assignments or questions in writing. The only 100% score you can get is the multiple choices in the final exam when you select the correct answer. The final exam grade and final grade were out on the same day, the last day of semester. He told us not to ask for a grade change since he curved the two presentations. Otherwise, you would get lower grade. |

Take Wesley's class if you like a B grade and like to spend a lot of time especially on weekend for the case matrix and quizzes. A UMD guidance he did follow is to give a 3.30 GPA for this class. However, there is no guidances or rubrics for the quizzes and case matrix for his students. It is a fortune if you get a 85% grade on any of them. The only 100% you can hit is the multiple choices in the final exam when you select the correct answer. The final exam which was taken before Thanksgiving and final grade came out on the last day of the semester. He told us not to ask for a final grade change since he curved for the presentation projects, he would lower our grade otherwise. |

Very frustrating taking BMGT 495 with Professor Wesley, I signed up to take this course with him due to positive reviews, however they proved not to be true or accurate. The assignments were very time consuming - which is fine, but significant effort and high quality work was not rewarded by his grading. Professor Wesley never gave 100% on any assignments, except 1. Grades on every assignment are so random, some weeks I would receive the high grade of an A, other weeks I was given a low B despite my work quality and effort being the same level, if not even higher. Everyone in the class felt their grades were completely random. He gave no individual feedback on any of these assignments and never went over his grading/what he was looking for in class. It was impossible to know what he wanted or what he was looking for in these assignments, when we had our first ever assignment, which had extremely little guidance, someone asked for a model or past example he went on to explain that is totally against policy. Everyone was always struggling to understand what he was looking for in these assignments. He grades participation in this class, I participated every single class period and shared my work in front of the class yet did not get full participation points - don't know what else he could've wanted. He then proceeded to tell us not to bother him by asking questions about our team project as he would be drunk and golfing. Each class consisted of him putting a list of questions on the board and telling us to talk about it with our neighbor, we would and he would repeat the exact same question and tell us to talk about it with our partner as if we hadn't just done that and that would go on for the entire hour and 15 minutes. He would give looks to people who finished their conversations early as if they were slacking off, yet we had spent the entire class period talking about the same topics over and over again. We took our final before Thanksgiving but he didn't put in our grades until the last day of final exams and proceeded to tell us not to ask him about grades or ask for a grade change despite participating or else he would lower our grades. I know I speak on behalf of others when I say it was a very frustrating class, and true hard work and effort that resulted in high-quality work were not given appropriate and fair grades. Take with another professor. |

Overall, Wesley is a fair grader and you know what to expect every class and HW assignment. Every week you fillout a case matrix after doing a reading. The readings look scary at 20-30 pages each but as long as you have a couple key points and a general summary you'll be okay- it's not about the finer details, more about general ideas. Classes are heavily discussion and participation based. |

If you don't want to spend your Sunday's reading 10-30 pages of an article which you then write about either via quiz or something called a case matrix, then go on to discuss your findings with your classmates the next week of class, don't take Wesley for BMGT495. He is a very lenient grader which I appreciate, but the way he teaches the course is just not optimal for the students. Participation is close to 15% of your grade, so it is important to show up to class and speak even though the entire 1 hour and 15 minute class period is repetitive and discouraging for students to stay attentive. He does this thing called analog time where you cannot use your laptops or phones at all and I'd say 90% of the course is probably spent on "analog time". He also provides feedback for the entire class on assignments and not particular to any individual's work, making his feedback useless. So, if you want a nice, easygoing semester of BMGT495, I recommend looking for other professors. |

Clarence was overall a good teacher, very by the book and told some funny Dad jokes. We did a lot of case studies and group presentations. My only qualm is the fact that Professor Wesley grades us in regards to our peers. So if someone does really well and others can't match that performance we are not scored as high. Additionally, the comments he leaves for quizzes and exams are based on the entires classes performance and not your individual performance. This is a bit upsetting because you do not get individualized feedback. Overall, he is a good professor, but I would not say an "easy A". |

Clarence was overall an okay professor. He wasn't a bad professor but he wasn't amazing. Classes felt long and boring. He seemed very into the topic he just wasn't able to transfer that into his teaching and make it interesting for his students. We had a participation grade which required you to show up for every class and answer a question but there were plenty of opportunities to participate as this class involved a lot of discussion. We had no midterm/final just a group project. We also had weekly reading quizzes. The material on the quiz was always discussed the class after it was due. He wasn't too bad with grading and as long as you put in effort you should be ok. |

Clarence was overall a good teacher that really made you learn all the business concepts (PESTEL, SWAT, etc). However, class was mandatory and pretty dull. There was a participation grade, but as long as you answered one thing per class, you were fine. He also didn't allow laptops, which made the class feel a lot longer. There were no midterms or finals. Instead, you are put in groups and do presentations, which were really easy. The only work that we had to do outside of class time was reading a Harvard Business Review and then completing a matrix or a explaining the how one of the business concepts applied to that case. This happened every week and could take 1-2 hours max, which was great. The one thing to keep in mind while taking this class is that he compares your work to other students in the class, so if you want to get an A, always make sure to write a lot. If you don't care too much, you can just do the minimum (spending 30 mins a week) and complete the assignments and you can get an A- easy. If you are looking for an easy, no stress business class, this is the one to take. |

This teacher was awesome. A very fair grader and super understanding. The weekly course load was low stress as you only had to submit either a case matrix or take a mini quiz before class. The only downside is that you take the quiz without going over the material first, you just read the Harvard publishing review of the case and use a framework to answer the quiz. The class is based on participation with the camera on, but honestly that was not too bad as the information was not dull and the class was not recorded so you could not go back to look through information. Also participation is mandatory for any 495 class but he was a bit more understanding of the introverts in the class, but I still recommend participating for full understanding. There was only one exam, but it was honestly just a longer version of the quizzes we take each week so not too hard and he tells you about the cases and the frameworks before hand. Overall, great class and teacher, would totally recommend! |
