Hands down one of the best professors and courses at UMD. If you are a transfer student I 100% taking this course. This was a class I always looked forward to going because of how fun, interactive, and interesting professor Laura makes it. This course will allow you to learn resources on campus, how you can apply your strengths as a transfer student at UMD, and how you can make a difference in the transfer student community. I wish I knew about this class when I first transferred here as it would have helped me get adjusted to campus faster and easier. The whole class will be made of transfer students just like you. I met some of my good friends thanks to this class because of how interactive and small the class is. The class is very laid back and as long as you put in the work and not slack off, you can easily get a 95% or higher in the course. You have to do a capstone project about an issue that transfer students face. You will also get to do these journals called "Zines" and you will get class time working on them. When we get time to work on them, it is like a mental health break since you are doing arts and crafts for the time Professor Laura dedicates to work on the Zines. Lastly, you will get paired with a coach for the semester that is there to help guide you through the transition, and help you get adjusted to campus in any way you need. Professor Laura is also such a nice, sweet, caring, and understanding professor who always wants the best for her students. Attendance is mandatory and each student has three unexcused absences they can use before it starts affecting their grade. Participation is also required in the class and you will be graded on attendance and participation. Overall, please take this class if you are a transfer student! It will help you so so much and you will not regret it! :) |
