I'm not a foreign policy person, but this class was incredibly interesting. If you're not interested in global conflict and peacemaking then I'd still say consider this class; Woldemariam is an expert in his field and is super knowledgeable, so you'll get something out of it. Class-wise, he's not a harsh grader and the assignments are manageable as long as you stay on top of everything. It's a group project based class, but that's nothing new for a policy major, but it means that "staying on top of things" can be made either extreme difficult or super easy depending almost solely on your groupmates. However, my group had difficulty with a member and Woldemariam was super responsive and helpful, as he generally was with most things. None of the grades get posted to Canvas, which can kinda suck, but as long as you can have him or a TA go over projects/papers, you'll get a fine grade. Plus, this was his first time teaching the class, so I think my year had some kinks to work out. Regardless, formatting is a little weird, but the class is interesting and Woldemariam is a good prof. |

This class felt very unorganized, and you have no clue where you stand because he doesn't put grades in Elms (not a single grade uploaded to Elms). Aside from your grade on the midterm paper, it's impossible to predict where you stand until finals. Everyone knows group papers suck. You have to write 2 group papers, 10-20 pages (I would have rather written them individually), and 2 group presentations on an international conflict. You only get one grade for the group, and these group grades are worth 50% of your final grade, yet you won't get these grades back until after finals. Your grade depends entirely on these other people He is really nice and is definitely an expert in his field of international security. however this was the most frustrating class in the policy major. |
