You can tell Xiaohui really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. After a majority of the class bombed the midterm, he gave everyone an opportunity to revise their answers in order to earn partial credit, and he made the final easier to ensure that people were more successful. He provided review slides for both the midterm and final that were explicitly clear about what was expected. There was also a term paper at the end of the course, but it was very easy because you could choose any topic relevant to the class to present an argument about, and he was very lenient when grading it. However, he does sometimes go off on tangents that may not be super relevant to the material, and because English is not his first language, he is sometimes difficult to understand.

Very approachable and answered my many questions in office hours, he wants you to understand the concepts because it is a broad overview of analytic western philosophy that people may expect you to know

Got a C- Actually such a miserable experience (didn't help that it was a night class though) So hard to understand that I wasn't sure if I was a bad student or if he was a bad instructor.

Thought I would like Philosophy but I don't think i'll ever go near it again. It was a bit hard to understand with his explaining but the slides were great help!

He is brand new like we were his first class ever so I will give him some grace. He told us he is such a good lecturer you won't need to take notes. YOU NEED TO TAKE NOTES. I did not and I regret it immensely because it would have saved me a lot of time before exams. The annoying part is the notes would have to be handwritten because he is strict about using devices. He can also be a little hard to understand and gets all his slides from chatgpt which is frustrating because for some topics, like abortion, he wrote at the bottom of the slide "not fact checked." I find that unprofessional and it definitely made the class harder to take seriously. Definitely go to his office hours and participate in class so you get full participation points because you do not get many grades. Its 2 exams, 1 paper, and one-ish discussion a week which sounds like a normal amount but the discussions will do absolutely nothing for your grade so put all your worth into the 3 major assessments.

Good professor, very passionate and wants everyone to succeed. Gave good review sheets. There were class discussions so it was an interactive class which is really cool I think that philosophy is a fun subject and I enjoyed all the units. I got an A- 😢

I honestly hated philosophy because I'm really bad at conceptual subjects, so if conceptual subjects aren't your strong suit I don't recommend taking this class, but he made it a lot easier to grasp. In class the lectures were a little fast but if you go to his office hours he's always really willing to take time to explain difficult topics in order for you to understand them better, he makes time if you want to schedule office hours with him as well. I joined the class late as well and he was really accommodating. His classes are very discussions and group work based though and you're not allowed to use any devices.
