Best accounting professor I’ve had so far at the Smith School. He explains concepts so clearly and is able to distill complex ideas into simple terms. Additionally, I really appreciated how he prioritized content and questions that would likely be covered on the CPA exam. I honestly regret not taking him for BMGT321 as well. Like most of these reviews suggest, Professor Zhang is the way to go for 310 and 321.

Easily my favorite accounting professor at Smith. He's super engaging and makes sure that everyone builds a solid foundation in the class first before moving onto more complicated topics. He explains everything very thoroughly and is overall an amazing lecturer. He provides numerous examples and walks through them to help prepare you for exams, and even points out parts of the processes that may trip you up. He never reads off of the slides and teaches purely off of his memory, so the class never feels boring. His practice exams are really helpful, and you can easily get an A in the class if you put in the time to study before the exams. If I could take all of my acccounting classes with Lu I would.

King. Very fair professor, wants to prep you well for the CPA exam, and preps you very very well for exams. I took him this semester for both 310 and 321, which is objectively heavy, especially considering I had his exams back to back on the same day always, but i have done well due to his teaching. I would 100% recommend him for both 310 and 321.

As a finance and accounting student who had just gotten into the business school and struggled HARD on 221, I was absolutely terrified for 321 and feared the worst going in. Little did I know that I would be absolutely blessed by being able to take it with Lu. Lu is such an amazing professor and made me so much more confident in my accounting abilities and that the demons of accounting aren't as scary or difficult as I once thought. His grading structure and the way he grades exams are extremely lenient so I never really was concerned for my grade in this class, which allowed me to really understand the material and really dig my nose into the content and Lu's style for handling various accounting questions. His ability to make hard concepts easy and his understanding of the student mindset in college really grounded the course and allowed for you to understand the concepts really well. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND professor Lu to anyone in the accounting major or anyone who needs to take an accounting course in general.

This man is hands down the best professor i've ever had the privilege of taking at the smith school of business. He truly cares so much about the learning and preparation of his students for the real world and really works to make the class as enjoyable as he can. For 310, he takes extra time to ensure that students are well-equipped for the CPA exam as well because this is one of the most important classes for the exam. His exams extremely fair and are the perfect combination of mentally stimulating while not being overly exhausting/difficult. Exams are also directly (almost word for word) based off an extremely condensed sample exam he gives ~10 days prior to exam meaning even if you don't wanna learn the intricacies of the course you can still do well. As for grading, hes extremely lenient and as long as you are putting in a decent amount of effort into the course, especially during the period when practice exams are out, you can confidently get an A. The one thing I will emphasize with Lu is that you NEED TO GO TO CLASS CONSISTENTLY. This man's strongest feature is his ability to condense 100 difficult slides into a 60 minute easy to understand lecture, but for that to be effective and for you to actually learn material you must show up to as many classes as possible and be actively engaged/listening to the lecture at all times. Overall, I feel extremely privileged to been able to take this course with him and HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM to anyone who needs to take a kind of accounting course!!!

Super easy class. The practice problems provided for the exam are the exact problems you will see, just different numbers. Exams are super long, so beware of pacing. The first exam was really easy, you could just memorize the steps and would pass with a high grade. With exam 2 and the final, it's a bit more difficult (especially the final) as you have to understand the concepts so that you don't get stumped., especially as he sometimes combined two/three practice problems into one on the exam. I never paid attention in class but went because of attendance points.

He is a great professor and an extremely generous grader. I didn't pay much attention in class but if you go through the practice exams a couple of times you don't have to. Straight-forward exams though the final is much harder than the first 2 to start preparing early. If you study before the exams by doing the homework and practice exams you should be able to get an A easily.

Literally the easiest A ever. There is weekly hw assignments on MyLab -which can get tedious and long- 3 exams and attendance grade for the class is just showing up everyday. Do the practice exam and it the exam looks super similar to it.

Really nice guy, just go to class and memorize sample exams as your material for the semester. He is not the best with HW assignment dates, pretty sure we've had 1 assignment out of no where due during finals week and 1 due after the semester ended??

Professor Zhang is a great professor. It is crucial you go to class and try hard not to miss class if you can avoid it. He condenses the 90-ish page slides into examples that are very easy to follow. I could imagine this class would be tough if you don't go to the lectures though. Exams are very heavily based on the sample exam. It's basically the same questions with the numbers changed around and an added question or two not from the practice exam. If you know how to do everything on the practice exam you can get an 80%+ on each exam. Homeworks are big time consumers so it would be good to start those ahead of time. I would take this class again.

Very good guy! I can't stress that enough. He's got a good course structure, gives everyone ample time to do the homework, and gives you this most helpful practice exams you'll ever have at this school. He definitely cares about his students successes. One of the best professors I've had at UMD so far.

Great professor. Go to lecture because he has his own methods that are different from the book and he does not record his lectures. Gives ample time for HWs and sample exams are very similar to actual exams given in class.

Dr. Zhang was a very good professor and very knowledgeable about the content. Very nice person and very good at explaining difficult concepts that are confusing from the textbook and slides.
