This was a fantastic course. I took it as my 'out of major technical elective' and it couldn't have worked better. The material was very interesting, the workload was low (esp compared to engineering) and Wenlu was a fair and nice grader. Wenlu Zhu stressed that she was more interested in getting us interested in Geology and the course, than giving us super hard homework or handing out bad grades. Also, this lecture consisted of 6 students- really 1-1 learning at its best. Lecture was only once a week, homework took 1-2 hours and were due every 3 weeks. Midterm is a short presentation about an article she assigns, and the final is take home. There were also reading assignments due weekly, but these were only 3-4 pages or so - alls that was required was a group discussion about the article. Coming from an Engineering (non Geology background) I found the class very understanding in describing basic geology terms and concepts as they came up. My only complaint would be that with a 3 hour lecture, staying focused can be very difficult. As a teacher Wenlu Zhu was very understanding. I accidentally presented on the wrong article for our midterm and she did not take off any points at all. Another major perk is the opportunity to get involved with geology research through Wenlu Zhu. For example, she offered the three undergraduates in our class the opportunity to come aboard a ship in the Bahamas for a month or so doing field work. I'm not even a Geology major and this opportunity was still available. If only I hadn't already accepted a job this summer... I Highly recommend taking this course.

Solid lecturer. Tests were somewhat difficult, as one had to memorize alot of groundwater flow equations. I prepared for the exams just by staring at her powerpoint lecture notes for a really long time. I never bought the textbook for this class. I went to most of the lectures, but my mind sort of wandered. The homeworks were sort of difficult, but were graded fairly. Overall, a fair teacher.
