Professor Miller is definitely a character. He spends at least half the class talking about random news stories, which is surprisingly entertaining—his commentary is lowkey hilarious. But fair warning: he is super strict about tech usage. If you sit in the back row, he and his TA will be watching like hawks for any phone light or suspicious screen glow. Up front, you might get away with it, but if he catches you using a phone, wearing AirPods, checking an Apple Watch, or even just having your hood up, he will 100% call you out in front of the whole class. That said, you really don’t need to take notes. Just show up, zone out if you want, and you’ll still be fine. He does randomly call on people, but it seems like he picks either super unique or super common names, so if your name isn’t in either extreme, you’re probably safe. Attendance is mandatory, though—missing a class docks your grade by about 1% every single time each time, and you need to stay the whole time to complete the reflection at the end of class. Oh, and get there on time, or you won’t get the reflection paper. The assignments are pretty chill: things like book reports, movie reviews, and a final class reflection. The key here is formatting. Read the other PlanetTerp reviews because everyone stresses this for a reason. I made sure to click the 1.0 single-spacing button and had the TAs check my formatting beforehand, which saved me a ton of points. (Seriously, don’t mess this up—it’s an easy way to lose half your grade.) The highlight of the class for me was the GLO-BUS simulation. It cost $50, but you only needed to spend like 15 minutes a week on it. I ended up going over sometimes because it was lowkey fun. Overall, Professor Miller isn’t a bad guy. The class is easy as long as you follow the rules, and his random rants make it more interesting than it sounds. If you can handle the no-tech policy, it’s not a bad gen ed to take. |

Incredibly easy class, basically just 3 short essays and lecture attendance. No phones in lecture, but prof. Miller is energetic enough that he kept me paying attention. Books that were assigned could be finished in a weekend, and the essays were graded on completion/formatting. You have a weekly business sim that you have to do (and pay $50 for), but that only requires ~15 min a week of participation. No exams either. If you don't mind mandatory lectures, this is a very good and easy gened to take. |

This is how the syllabus breaks down and my thoughts on each assignment: 30% - GLO-BUS Simulation. You have to spend $45 on a piece of software called GLO-BUS. It's a business simulation game. You *mostly* get graded on doing 15 minutes of it per week. However, you will lose 2/10 points if you don't look at the reports at least once. Overall, easy grade, he just requires you do 15 minutes per week and look at the reports at least once per week. 28% - Class participation. There were 29 of these so they are each worth ~1%. During lecture, the TA hands out a sheet of paper. At the end of lecture, Miller displays a question on the board. You just write a short four-sentence answer on the paper and turn it in. Easy, but annoying because this is how he enforces class attendance. 42% - Writing assignments: (I'm grouping these together because my thoughts on them are all very similar) 14% - Franklin Homework Assignment. Just a 1000-ish word creative writing assignment where you write a story about a made-up entrepreneur. 10% - GLO-BUS Strategy Reflections. Between about 750-1000 words (I forgot) essay about your upcoming strategies for GLO-BUS. 6% - Movie Review. About 750 words. We watched The Donut King. Literally just watch the movie and write your opinion on it. 6% - Book Review. About 750 words. We read the Trader Joe's book. Again, literally just read it and write your opinion on it. 6% - End of Class Reflection. About 850 words I think. Just write your opinion on the class. For the writing assignments, FORMATTING IS CRITICAL. Be prepared to lose lots of points if you don't format correctly. 12-pt Times New Roman, APA format, 1-inch margins, single-spaced (for some reason), include both your first and last name, .docx/Microsoft Word format, in-text citations if required (the only assignments that needed citations were the movie review and the book review, and for these the only citation you needed was the movie and the book, respectively). If you're not sure, talk to the TAs. Even if you are sure, talk to the TAs. The few times I went, they were super helpful. You can also submit the writing assignments late with a penalty of 10% per day, but don't do that. Submit them on time. They're super easy as long as you format them correctly and stay on-topic. I knocked each of them out in about an hour, give or take. If he sees you using your phone, supposedly he'll kick you out, although I don't think he ever actually did that in my section. I think the farthest he ever went was just a warning. Also, plenty of people used their phone and never got caught. Take that as you will. He's actually quite nice. When I talk to him, he's quite friendly and helpful. I mean, if you ask him to raise your grade without a valid excuse, then he might not be happy. But just do your work. The class content is very easy to understand and I would say it's borderline common sense. It's not hard to stay awake if you get eight hours of sleep per night. All the people saying that they fell asleep during class probably just aren't getting enough sleep. You don't need to take notes, but you can. I usually did math homework during class and I think he probably thought I was taking notes. He spends about 30 minutes at the beginning of class going over news stories and asking for people's opinions. Sometimes he'll call on someone from the list of students and oftentimes nobody responds when he calls out a name. If you don't respond when he calls on you, you lose points. The class feels like a huge waste of time. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that he spends about 10 of the 75 minutes of every class going over the latest fast food news. Denny's, Starbucks, Cheesecake Factory, IHOP, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, you name it. Take the class if you want an easy A. Don't take it if you actually want your money's worth (although to be honest this probably applies to a lot of business classes). Every Wednesday, one of his friends would join on Zoom and spend about 10 minutes talking about advice when searching for a job and doing job interviews, such as what questions to ask, networking, red flags to look out for, etc. Actually quite useful. Overall, don't procrastinate, triple-check your formatting (and then check it one more time), get enough sleep at night (which you should be doing anyways), talk to Miller or the TAs if you have any questions, and you'll be fine. |

This class is alright. The structure is around half the class; we go over news stories, which was very valuable as otherwise I wouldn't know the condition of most businesses nowadays. The second half of class is boring content that you don't need to pay attention to at all because there are no tests and all the out-of-class assignments do not reflect anything we are learning in class. The fact that this class meets so late in the day and is a zero tech class makes it always a dread to come to and almost impossible to stay awake. Attendance is mandatory, though and they are super unforgiving if you miss a class. Assignments are impossible to make up so you need to be on top of the weekly simulator project, which sucks. Jeff Miller is a chill guy, though, and at least makes the news stories engaging and funny. He is a little OD and will call anyone out for not paying attention or talking to their neighbor. I do not recommend this class unless they change the structure. Besides the news articles, I learned nothing. If you do take this class, make sure to drink a cup of coffee before each lecture. |

Intro: I do think he's a bit overrated just because the class is EXTREMELY easy, overall a decent guy, very outgoing and tries to be funny and encouraging in class. The class, like previously said, it very easy but there's not anything super worth learning/remembering from this class (from the perspective of taking this as an elective I thought would be interesting). Pros: - no exams (it seems he recently did away with this, great choice, the content is very hard to engage with and he speeds through extremely wordy notes/slides without posting them) - overall, very easy class (graded on: class attenndance/participation, some easy writing [see below], and participation in a business simulation) - you play this business simulation (GLO-BUS) which was actually rather fun for me, but can be a struggle for some. participation grade only so it fits for everyone whether you get into it or not as a competitive thing (~15 mins each week for participation). - you spend like 20-40 minutes of class time looking at news articles and discussing them. fun and distracting for me and much better than the class content. - writing graded on format more than content USUALLY, but see below in cons - somewhat entertaining in class. i somewhat disagree with other reviews - he's not THAT funny but has good moments every now and then Cons: - you have to pay 50 dollars for the business simulation (GLO-BUS) - does a lot of cold calls so you have to be somewhat prepared and somewhat paying attention in class, because if you do not respond in class, you get a 0 on class participation grade - no electronics in class - no phone, no laptop, and he will yell at you/call you out if he catches you; he makes this very prominent in class (basically announces the policy at beginning of most classes) - no sleeping or talking to others - some people get away with whispering - writing assignments are tedious, class itself is very boring/feel very long - the formatting requirements are weird (imo) because they have some mixed reqs (from class slides vs syllabus might say MLA/APA vs APA only) and then not FULLY clear expectations or fleshed out; while still grading mostly on format rather than what you actually write - - Neutral: - 1 hour and 15 minutes in a generally crowded lecture that is for some reason rather warm, so it makes you sleepy while also being cramped if you do unfortunately sit in between two people, which also happened at 3:30-4:45pm which contributed to any sleep issue - the writing assignments generally range from 700 to 900 words iirc. you have to review a movie, a book, do a creative writing assignment about your own character that is representative of benjamin franklin, two strategy plans for the business simulation, and if you do bad in GLO-BUS, you have to write bankruptcy reports - you HAVE to attend class to get your class participation grade (which is a mini writing exit ticket, but they hand out the paper at some point when class starts) conclusion/tldr take this class if you need the 2 gen eds or credits + are willing to take a semi-late class (3:30pm when I took this), very easy. writing and participation hw. can be boring and you might need to care a lot to learn something. |

This is a very straightforward and enjoyable class. Professor Miller is one of the best professors I’ve had in college—he’s hilarious, engaging, and genuinely interested in teaching his students and hearing their perspectives. There are no exams or quizzes, and the main coursework involves managing a weekly company simulation on software called GLO-BUS, which takes about 15 minutes per week, along with a few ~900-word essays on movies, books, and other topics. However, Professor Miller is very particular about the formatting of these essays, so paying attention to those requirements listed on the syllabus is crucial to doing well. Class participation includes completing an “exit ticket” at the end of each session, which counts as part of your grade. As long as you write four sentences somewhat related to the question, you’ll receive credit. While I occasionally found the lectures a bit long and tedious, this wasn’t a frequent issue. One notable rule is that Professor Miller does not allow technology in the classroom under any circumstances, though it's not hard to discretely use your phone if you aren't an idiot. Overall, this class is manageable and a low-time commitment. |

People are tweaking saying the lecture is boring. Yea it is not the most entertaining thing in the world but in my opinion Jeff Miller is the absolute best professor you could choose to make a lecture interesting and entertaining. He is strict about no phones and formatting on work but if you just follow those two things you will get an easy A. This was a fun class and Miller made it really enjoyable and for the review that says he is insensitive I mean yea he might not be the most professional (wears sandals with dogs out sometimes) but he's lowkey just a chill guy who doesn't give af about anything. |

Easy class that I recommend to anyone wanting to take as a gen-ed course. Class Structure: - 2x week MANDATORY lectures (very strict NO ELECTRONICS policy and mandatory since there is an "exit-ticket" at the end of class and he can randomly call on you to answer simple questions) Exams: - NONE Papers: - 3-4 papers throughout the semester *As long as you follow the word count and formatting, it's an easy 100- basically a completion grade* Homework: - Weekly Glo-Bus assignment which requires 15 minutes per week minimum and is graded on COMPLETION Overall, very easy class as long as you show up to lectures and do the work on time and in the correct format. The lectures can be boring since there is a no electronics policy but Jeff tries to engage as much as possible. |

This class is a SUPER EASY gen ed credit. Prof. Miller is super nice and an easy grader. Basically every assignment is a completion grade. There are only a few papers but there are no tests or quizzes. There is also NO FINAL. Just to keep in mind - you cannot use any device in his class for notes or otherwise or you get kicked out so bring a notebook. Otherwise, super easy and chill class. |

Very laid back, there are no exams just a few essays and assignments. Make sure to format your essays the way he wants it, he emphasizes this and will take off points, but grades generously/fairly. Attendance is important (you're graded on it) and you can't use any device during class (he's passionate about this). He doesn't post slides on canvas so jot a few things down from the lectures to reference in the essays and you'll do well. Sometimes the lectures can be a little boring but he is funny and entertaining which helps to keep people engaged. I would recommend. |

Slight work. Show up to class, don’t use your phone in lecture, format the assignments properly, and you will get an A+. Chill ass guy literally just don’t break his policy and you’ll do well. He’s not the type of professor that sets you up for failure. He puts way more of an emphasis on learning and doesn’t give any exams. |

I would recommend this class, although I do have some problems with it. Attendance is mandatory, and you can't talk or have any device out. The assignments are extremely easy -- as long as you do it, you get a 100. There are a few essays, which are very easy, although your main concern is making sure you're formatting it in MLA. I forgot to change the font of my page numbers to Times New Roman and I got a few points off for it. These few writing assignments have a big impact on your grade, so since there aren't too many of them, getting a few points off does make a difference in your overall grade. I learned a lot about the current economy and how big companies are doing in the world, which I really valued and I do miss always being up to date with that. I found that part of class interesting, but the rest of it could not have been more boring. You don't actually need to take notes or pay attention at all in class, but there is genuinely nothing to do except doodle on your paper and watch Jeff yell at people for looking at the time on their phones. There would always be one person asleep every class, somehow Jeff did not always notice. Very easy class and at times very interesting, just know what you're getting into. |

The class was pretty easy and professor was nice and funny. However, sitting through lecture was pretty tedious. First of all, it was late in the day so it was exhausting to sit through an hour and 15 min lecture that requires no devices and no talking. Additionally, I didn't learn much in the class. The only reason anyone goes is for the in-class response at the end of each lecture because attendance is mandatory. His assignments are easy, but there can be a lot of them and they have a lot of weightage. If you do the work on time and meet the requirements, you're guaranteed an A. Overall, I found this class rather tiring. |

Completely honest review: Easy class, but this guy is definitely the most insensitive person I have encountered out of ALL professors in my history of being taught. He is extremely rude to his students and sarcastic in his responses/emails. I am genuinely surprised this guy has not had some sort of disciplinary action taken against him (probably just because he's been around for awhile). With that being said, go to class and submit the assignments on time and you will get an A. He literally doesn't care what students write in their papers as long as its formatted properly... its actually the oddest thing Ive ever seen. Also, be prepared to get singled out then kicked out of the class if you so much look at your phone to check the time. He stares at every student to search for phone light shining on their face, and then proceeds to yell at them for being distracting (meanwhile he just interrupted his entire lecture by singling some poor kid out). In summary: Guys an extremely insensitive person, but I gave him two stars since its an easy A |

This class was easy and there were no exams but Jeff Miller is an annoying and angry person. His cell phone policy is understandable but he enforces it too much. Even if you are talking to your friends he calls you out and makes you move or just puts you out of class. This guy should be teaching middle school. His class is incredibly easy but the trade-off is an incredibly annoying professor who makes the 75-minute lectures a huge pain. |

I think Jeff is a pretty good lecturer and he can be funny. But he is extremely annoying. He has a strict cell phone and attendance policy but he is too strict and he becomes incredibly whiny and annoying. He would stop lecturing just to put someone out of class for looking at their phone. His class is incredibly easy but he takes it too seriously. If you need the free A then go for it, but personally, it was a very annoying semester and I do not think it is worth it. |

Professor Miller is quite the character and there are not many other ways to describe him. This class is easy but so pointless. Only take for a GPA booster and/or gen-ed requirement. He's really really annoying about being on your phone or any technology during class. The lectures are so boring and teach you literally nothing. However, the news stories discussions are interesting, engaging, and teach you something actually important. Would only recommend it if there aren't better options. |

Here's an actual honest review, because all of the reviews here are mixed and confusing. This will tell you what you actually need to know - make sure you read the part about Jeff Miller, it's important. The Course Itself First - if you want an easy A, take this class. There's literally no exams. All you have to do is go to class (attendance is required and you cannot get around it) and do the assignments. There's a few papers, each around 750-950 words which is a lot, but if you piece it out, you will do just fine. The content of each paper is also really easy, so the length itself is the only issue. Half of the papers are reflections and the other half are book/movie reviews, super easy. TA's, Grading, Etc. Grading is honestly super fair. If you meet all the content requirements, you will get 100% on every paper, regardless of how sophisticated your work is. Of course, you can't BS it - you should be putting forth full effort, but it's not like ENGL101 where your professor will take off points for anything... it should be super easy to get an A in this course. TA's are helpful, but do be sure to address any concerns with Miller first. The Professor (IMPORTANT) Ok, finally. There's a reason I gave Jeff Miller two stars - because he acts like a CHILD. Like seriously, this is the least professional professor you will ever meet. Let's start with his lectures - they're super boring, the room is dark and warm, and because he doesn't have exams, it is so easy to not pay attention and get distracted. Problem is, he literally has a complete ban on all phones, whispering, etc., and he takes violations PERSONAL. Like, he will gladly single you out in front of everyone, kick you out of his class, and then name-call you next class in front of the entire 100 person lecture. I get he has his rules, but this is unbelievably immature - I haven't seen instructors doing stuff like this since I was a freshman in high school. Seriously, Jeff would be much better off quietly addressing issues like this, but instead he decides to remind the entire room, "NO PHONES" at the start of every class and stop his lecture to single out students. If you have trouble focusing and don't want to feel like you're being hawked the entire class, maybe don't take this course. Aside from that, it truly is the easiest A ever if you just do the work. TLDR In conclusion, Jeff Miller is an extremely immature professor, but his class is easy and the grading is pretty fair. He WILL single you out for things like talking, phone usage, etc. so if you can't focus on his boring lecture for 75 minutes, don't take the course, as attendance is required for every class. But yes, it is an easy A and I would recommend you take it. |

Really easy class, attendance is part of your grade but the lectures aren't anything you need to take notes on. Jeff's pretty engaging and funny. Hardly any homework but the few papers have to be perfectly formatted or you'll lose big points. Otherwise he doesn't care what you write. Have a TA proofread before you turn in anything. Professor Miller is a very fun, engaging, and energetic instructor. His class is also not that difficult with no exams. Just a few papers around 750-950 words that are graded leniently, as long as you use the right format. His formatting directions are confusing, so go to office hours to clear that up with a TA if needed. The class content is very interesting and also useful for your own professional development. Overall, if you want an interesting and relatively easy Gen-Ed, take this class. |

His lectures can be a little bit long and disengaging but for the most part it is easy to pay attention. He interacts with his students in class and if you hate cold calling, dont take this class. Easy A, Great Professor. Pros: - 30mins of the 1hr 15mins are spent dedicated to just news stories, rather funny and interesting - The lecture portion of the class at times brings real-world scenarios, and its actually really insightful. - Easy assignments - You do this online simulation, and you need 15 mins of participation once a week to get credit (also its kinda fun) - ~4-5 Papers that are between 750-950 words. Some are annoying, but its spread out, and you get plenty of time to do it. Cons: - Professor Miller can sometimes be harsh on the cellphone & electronic policy and needs to go on rambles about it every single day. Don't try using your computer or phone, it just is not worth it. - Attendance is MANDATORY. Every class is 1% of your grade, there is a 4-sentence assignment you have to turn in on paper at the end of each class. If you need a business elective, I-series course, or need a class, TAKE IT. |

This class is taught like we are 6 years old. Professor Miller tries to be hip and funny and he is just obnoxious. He randomly calls out students and says such rude things that no teacher should say like asking students if they have student loans and asking them how much money they make. He grades papers like elementary school. He doesn't actually care what you write because all he cares about is how you format your paper to the most extreme level. He cries if your font or margins are not up to his standard. He treats college students like children. he thinks he is doing something by trying to scream at people for going on their phones and he feels the need to talk about it every single class for the first 10 minutes as if he didn't say it every single day for the whole year. |

I did enjoy the class, but here are the pros and cons pros you know what the assignment is every week. Ever since the first week, you have the same 500-word reflection due every Friday night. You can easily bs this, but 500 words are still 500 words. I enjoyed the news stories at the beginning of the class. It was a bit of humor and boredom relief before he went into his slides on content His attendance policy is very simple. He randomly calls on people during class. If you are called on and are present, or don't get called on u get a 100 for the week. If you get called on and skipped class, you get a 0 for the week. So, you can skip class, but at your own risk. cons- I would have had a 100% in the class if I formatted it right (I ended up with a 93). I did every single assignment exactly how I was supposed to. One time I got a 50% on a reflection because it was Arial, not Times New Roman. Another time, I got a 50% because I forgot my name at the top of the paper. Obviously it was my fault, but taking half off for formatting is a little much. It is a problem communicating with him. I once had a problem and emailed him 4 times. He said to come to his office hours then canceled them for 3 days straight without notice. When I did finally go to OH, he said "ok I'll fix it" and never did until I bugged him even more. Finally, the no laptop policy in class is annoying. I totally get it because I would be on youtube all class, but still annoying. All in all, this class is very easy to get an A. If you show up to class every day and do your work on time in the format you should, you will ace it. |

Do not come into this course thinking you just "turn your brain off" and get an A easily like some other courses. You have to do 500 words every week, which for the ultra lazy is not the move. This is a dealbreaker for many people, but he will cold call (randomly call on) people. If you don't respond, you're marked as absent. However you can respond and just say you don't know. NO phones/laptops he will get annoyed about it and could ask you to leave. And you even have to write a book report and some other 750+ word bs Take something else, there's easier As. |

Such a fun and unique guy. Put in the work and it's an easy A. He is very particular about formatting and phones, otherwise he is very laid back. He doesn't give exams and you will learn a lot about current events. I am taking 110 with him next semester. |

Very interesting teacher and is very funny to listen to. Is annoying about phones and not sharing notes but it is not too big of a deal. As long as you put in at least 45 min of work a week you should get an A. |

Such a fun and easy class. You have to write a 500 word reflection every week and occasionally do other assignments but I almost always got 100% with minimum effort. There's no exams and you use a program called GLO-BUS that I found fun and put effort into, but you legitimately only need to use it for 15 minutes a week to get credit. Don't go on your phone in this class, it's not worth to be called out by him and the class is interesting anyways he spends the first 30 minutes just discussing news stories which was honestly the best part of the class. |

The people giving him low reviews are just upset that they were called out for being on their phone in class. Easiest A ever. |

This is the easiest class I have ever taken. There are weekly assignments where you write a 500 word summary and have to sit on a website for 15 minutes. I spent about 35 minutes on this class outside of lectures every week. The Ben Franklin assignment is easy if you pay attention during class. Also no exams! This is absolutely an easy A and I look forward to going to class since it's super chill! Highly recommend this class if you can take it, I took it as an I-Series |

Definitely take this class if you're looking for an easy A. As long as you do the assignments, you will get and A on them. There is a decent amount of work, but none of it is hard or too overwhelming, and as I said, as long as you do it, you will get an A on it. The reason for his low rating is because he is very poor at explaining assignments, and over half of my class was caught in a cheating scandal, partly due to needing clarification on assignments in the groupme. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs to boost their GPA, but whatever you do, do not join the groupme |

Such a joke of a class. Huge waste of time! Didn't actually learn anything, but there are no exams and the assignments are pretty easy. |

I can’t believe we are paying tuition to sit in this class for the professor to talk about his opinion on the news for an hour and 15 minutes |

This class was honestly one of my favorite classes at UMD. Jeff cares about his students and can be really understanding. There are no tests, including no final exam, because he doesn't want students to stress over his class which I found so helpful. The news stories discussed in class can be boring at times, but some of them allow for great discussion. The content is very straightforward and the weekly reflections were great. The only other assignments were 2 papers including a final reflection. Overall, this is an easy class and Jeff makes it very enjoyable. |

this class was one of the best classes I took because there was no exams, even quizzes. Jeff is not out to get his students. I also enjoyed the news stories he discussed during discussion. The work load is very minimal being max 30 min a week and 3 4 page papers that are not hard at all. make sure to follow the assignments and there is no reason you should get below an A in this class. Such an easy A if you want a relaxed class for a hard semester |

Honestly, this was one of my favorite classes this semester (Fall 2020). If you enjoy the material (general business stuff) I'll highly recommend. People complain about the news stories but it's not that bad at all. If anything, it gives you ideas about what to do and what not to do with your company. Since nobody mentioned this, you'll have to pay about 70 for a program for the class. In my opinion its worth it given the fact that I am interested in business. Even if your not its graded on participation. On the real, just do the work (its slight) and you'll walk away with an A. Miller is a great guy tho, mad funny and approachable. Loves what he teaches and always cracking dad jokes and stuff. |

He's hilarious and engaging. My only criticism is that he spends class time going over current news stories instead of actual class content, which he expects us to learn outside of class. It doesn't make much sense, but other than that he's great. Not a harsh grader either. |

The class was pretty interesting and the material was easy to grasp. My only complaint is the amount of time spent on news stories, being that it's something you're not tested on it (though this isn't a huge problem). |

Miller is an engaging professor who is clearly very interested in business and the class he teaches, however, there are several flaws in his teaching style. First of all, he spends over half the class covering news stories which will never be on his exams and then proceeds to rush through his class material at the end of class, usually not finishing everything. He goes through his content VERY quickly and makes his students lives even more difficult by making them take hand written notes and enforcing a very strict no technology policy. Then, if you happen to have missed a lot of his notes (which you probably will), he doesn't post his slides until the day before an exam. The exams are short and fairly easy if you study your notes and his slides but the questions can be weirdly specific sometimes. Lastly, Miller does NOT round, I ended the class with an 89.93% and he would not budge. Overall a cool and interesting professor just needs to fix several big issues with his class. |

I want to rate him higher because his class really is interesting and a favorite of mine overall but there are some serious caveats. He goes over news stories and engages with students about what they think about the stories. He has a way of making the classroom feel smaller than it is, which is a rare trait. HOWEVER, this news story content, interesting as it may be, is irrelevant to anything that you are tested on and I find it VERY frustrating how little time he spends on course material! Most days it's only between 10-15 minutes of slides related to coursework This, of course, makes it impossible to write notes while he flies through the slides. Which is even more annoying because there is a STRICT no technology rule so your notes must be handwritten. But wait, there's more. He does not post any of those precious slides until the day before testing so you have no opprotunity to study or view them after class. You can only binge study. I know that he does this to encourage attendance but there has got to be a better way. |

DO NOT TAKE MILLER! Going to class is a waste of time. He says he will put up the slides for exams 1 day before the exam, which is BS first off, then fails to put it up until hours before. He is a really interesting guy, but holy crap does he not know how to run a class. He does not know how to use ELMS, how to grade assignments, and most importantly how to write a quiz/exam. I never missed a class and was always attentive but did poor on the tests because they dont test your knowledge on the subject, but instead if you can memorize useless facts/definitions. |

Very good professor, very tough course. Dr. Wellman is really into business and management and he teaches the material with a lot of enthusiasm. Some of the lectures get a bit boring but overall they're interesting. As others have said, there are the "one minute memos" at each lecture which add up to quite a lot of points, so make sure you go to class. There were two special projects/assignments we had to do which also made a big part of our grade, but they were pretty easy to do. The exams were the only very hard part of this class. The multiple choice questions are incredibly specific and you definitely need to study your ass off to do well on them. |

I usually don't even bother to fill out the course evaluations for UMD, but I feel the need to give a review for Professor Wellman. Simply put he is one of the best professors that I have experienced so far at UMD, he truly cares about both his students and his class. You will likely learn more from this class than all your other classes combined. Why do I say this? Because everything you learn from this class is applicable to both your life as a student and more so how to be successful once your out in the real world job market. Understanding what it takes to be successful and what the difference is between unsuccessful and successful companies may sound boring, but Wellman makes it one of the most interesting topics at this school. His ability to tie in current events with his class is excellent and keeps you interested in the class. Trust me, this should be a required class before everyone graduates! The out of class assignments are actually useful and don't simply seem like the professor has you do it so they can give you a grade. These assignments are actually interesting and helpful. Professor Wellman is extremely easy to talk to, teaches an excellent class, and gives you real world knowledge that is more useful than almost everything else you will learn at this university. Take this class with Professor Wellman, you won't regret it! |

The class is very interesting so even if you are not a business major, you should still take it. Professor Wellman is one of the few outstanding professors I have encountered in the years I have been here. Lectures attendance is mandatory because you will be doing a small review of the lecture called "one minute memo" and turn them in at the end of class for points. If you miss more than 4 memos, you will be REQUIRED to take a VERY HARD final exam. Personally I did not have to take it but judging from the difficulty of the midterm, it is not a bluff. However, lectures and exams are not the only things in this class. The professor does try to expose students new concepts and ideas by actually making us do it. One of those you should be aware is that you will be required to do something called Iliad Assessment, where you have to go through a day as a corporate executive. The assessment include giving a presentation, working on memos, and participate in meetings. Afterward you will be given results and write a development plan for it. Another one is an online management simulation where you are trying to get people to adopt the initiative. It's not as hard as it sounds, it's really more like a game. You just have to write reviews and analysis of the simulation afterward. One thing I really like is that he tries to stay on current business events. With the passing of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, the professor assigned the biography of Steve Jobs as our reading assignment. It's actually a great book so I read it anyway. As long as you come to lectures and do all the assignments and projects, you will get an A. I highly recommend this class for both the information and the experience. |

Professor Wellman is one of the best professors I have ever had. Some people do not like his class because he makes you do one minute memos everyday, but I love them, they allow me to follow the lecture and get lots of easy points! His tests are hard but you can get C's on them and still get an A in the class if you do everything else. I have learned so much from his class, I actually look forward to going because his lectures are really interesting and he is an excellent speaker. All in all I would highly recommend taking a course with Wellman as the professor. |

Professor Wellman is a good professor in the sense that he has been in the business school for a long time and therefore has created strong relationships with other faculty and staff. His teaching style is the only thing that prevents me from giving him a 5 star rating. Although, he knows the material very well, it seemed like he wasn't delivering it effectively. Maybe it was because our class was a 3 hour evening class. Overall, this class wasn't too hard. There were very thick packets that he gave out which I never read and still managed to pull away with an A-. Exams were really tricky. The best way to do well on the exams is by reading the power point slides several times and paying attention when he plays the video clips in class about current events. He also gave out extra credit several times in class which definitely helped out. I definitely recommend taking this class. |
