I would recommend this class, although I do have some problems with it. Attendance is mandatory, and you can't talk or have any device out. The assignments are extremely easy -- as long as you do it, you get a 100. There are a few essays, which are very easy, although your main concern is making sure you're formatting it in MLA. I forgot to change the font of my page numbers to Times New Roman and I got a few points off for it. These few writing assignments have a big impact on your grade, so since there aren't too many of them, getting a few points off does make a difference in your overall grade. I learned a lot about the current economy and how big companies are doing in the world, which I really valued and I do miss always being up to date with that. I found that part of class interesting, but the rest of it could not have been more boring. You don't actually need to take notes or pay attention at all in class, but there is genuinely nothing to do except doodle on your paper and watch Jeff yell at people for looking at the time on their phones. There would always be one person asleep every class, somehow Jeff did not always notice. Very easy class and at times very interesting, just know what you're getting into. |

The class was pretty easy and professor was nice and funny. However, sitting through lecture was pretty tedious. First of all, it was late in the day so it was exhausting to sit through an hour and 15 min lecture that requires no devices and no talking. Additionally, I didn't learn much in the class. The only reason anyone goes is for the in-class response at the end of each lecture because attendance is mandatory. His assignments are easy, but there can be a lot of them and they have a lot of weightage. If you do the work on time and meet the requirements, you're guaranteed an A. Overall, I found this class rather tiring. |

Completely honest review: Easy class, but this guy is definitely the most insensitive person I have encountered out of ALL professors in my history of being taught. He is extremely rude to his students and sarcastic in his responses/emails. I am genuinely surprised this guy has not had some sort of disciplinary action taken against him (probably just because he's been around for awhile). With that being said, go to class and submit the assignments on time and you will get an A. He literally doesn't care what students write in their papers as long as its formatted properly... its actually the oddest thing Ive ever seen. Also, be prepared to get singled out then kicked out of the class if you so much look at your phone to check the time. He stares at every student to search for phone light shining on their face, and then proceeds to yell at them for being distracting (meanwhile he just interrupted his entire lecture by singling some poor kid out). In summary: Guys an extremely insensitive person, but I gave him two stars since its an easy A |

Very easy class. Miller is pretty engaging even though the material is somewhat boring. As long as you follow the rubric you'll get an A on every assignment. |

Very easy class and he's pretty funny, but the rule that you can't be on your phone or laptop makes the lectures seem like hell. And the class is almost entirely attendance based. |

Super great! No phone policy, but that's really simple to deal with. Lectures are split up into 30 minutes of news articles, 40 minutes of lecture, and an attendance question at the end, so class feels pretty quick many times. There are only 4-ish major assignments total, formatting is extremely important. Would recommend for anyone that needs a chill, fun, and informative class (and thinking of doing business)! |

This class was easy and there were no exams but Jeff Miller is an annoying and angry person. His cell phone policy is understandable but he enforces it too much. Even if you are talking to your friends he calls you out and makes you move or just puts you out of class. This guy should be teaching middle school. His class is incredibly easy but the trade-off is an incredibly annoying professor who makes the 75-minute lectures a huge pain. |

Super easy, class is very stupid because you do new stories and than just do nothing the rest of class. He says no phones and will kick people out, but if you can hide it well your fine. For the assignments, just follow the rubric and you will get a 100%. For the 4 page paper you can bs everything and get a 100%. Just show up to class and follow the rubric and you will get an A. |

I think Jeff is a pretty good lecturer and he can be funny. But he is extremely annoying. He has a strict cell phone and attendance policy but he is too strict and he becomes incredibly whiny and annoying. He would stop lecturing just to put someone out of class for looking at their phone. His class is incredibly easy but he takes it too seriously. If you need the free A then go for it, but personally, it was a very annoying semester and I do not think it is worth it. |

Professor Miller is quite the character and there are not many other ways to describe him. This class is easy but so pointless. Only take for a GPA booster and/or gen-ed requirement. He's really really annoying about being on your phone or any technology during class. The lectures are so boring and teach you literally nothing. However, the news stories discussions are interesting, engaging, and teach you something actually important. Would only recommend it if there aren't better options. |

Here's an actual honest review, because all of the reviews here are mixed and confusing. This will tell you what you actually need to know - make sure you read the part about Jeff Miller, it's important. The Course Itself First - if you want an easy A, take this class. There's literally no exams. All you have to do is go to class (attendance is required and you cannot get around it) and do the assignments. There's a few papers, each around 750-950 words which is a lot, but if you piece it out, you will do just fine. The content of each paper is also really easy, so the length itself is the only issue. Half of the papers are reflections and the other half are book/movie reviews, super easy. TA's, Grading, Etc. Grading is honestly super fair. If you meet all the content requirements, you will get 100% on every paper, regardless of how sophisticated your work is. Of course, you can't BS it - you should be putting forth full effort, but it's not like ENGL101 where your professor will take off points for anything... it should be super easy to get an A in this course. TA's are helpful, but do be sure to address any concerns with Miller first. The Professor (IMPORTANT) Ok, finally. There's a reason I gave Jeff Miller two stars - because he acts like a CHILD. Like seriously, this is the least professional professor you will ever meet. Let's start with his lectures - they're super boring, the room is dark and warm, and because he doesn't have exams, it is so easy to not pay attention and get distracted. Problem is, he literally has a complete ban on all phones, whispering, etc., and he takes violations PERSONAL. Like, he will gladly single you out in front of everyone, kick you out of his class, and then name-call you next class in front of the entire 100 person lecture. I get he has his rules, but this is unbelievably immature - I haven't seen instructors doing stuff like this since I was a freshman in high school. Seriously, Jeff would be much better off quietly addressing issues like this, but instead he decides to remind the entire room, "NO PHONES" at the start of every class and stop his lecture to single out students. If you have trouble focusing and don't want to feel like you're being hawked the entire class, maybe don't take this course. Aside from that, it truly is the easiest A ever if you just do the work. TLDR In conclusion, Jeff Miller is an extremely immature professor, but his class is easy and the grading is pretty fair. He WILL single you out for things like talking, phone usage, etc. so if you can't focus on his boring lecture for 75 minutes, don't take the course, as attendance is required for every class. But yes, it is an easy A and I would recommend you take it. |

Really easy class, attendance is part of your grade but the lectures aren't anything you need to take notes on. Jeff's pretty engaging and funny. Hardly any homework but the few papers have to be perfectly formatted or you'll lose big points. Otherwise he doesn't care what you write. Have a TA proofread before you turn in anything. Take this class! |

BMGT110 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/28/2023 |
Very easy to get an A in the class, and there is no homework outside of the 4 major assignments (3 of which will take you only 2 or so hours). The assignments are graded on a rubric but the rubric is just "don't rephrase the text, provide your own opinion, and reach the word limit." As long as you don't just rewrite the text, you will pretty much get full credit for each essay (each only 800-1000 words long). Just make sure you make your essay focused on what you thought of it and unique things you took out of it. Be creative! However, the reason I am only rating him 3 stars is because of his lectures. He as a lecturer is extremely entertaining, but I feel like the content of the lectures just makes going to class a chore. He spends the first 30-40 minutes speeding through dozens of news article headlines and making jokes related to them, which is fine at first but when you're already having a busy day and focused on other rigorous classes, it just feels like you are wasting a lot of time being there. Furthermore, the actual content of the lectures is fairly basic. He mostly just runs through the slides (albeit in an entertaining way), but the content of the class isn't very deep and you would get just as much out of the class by going through the slides on your own. However, this is not possible because he does not upload ANYTHING online. This includes assignment details, so tough luck if you forget to copy down the assignment. His lectures are very much "come to my lectures not because you'll get something out of it, but because I force you to through mandatory attendance checks and not allow you to receive information in any other way" In short, take this class if you have to or need a GPA booster, but don't take this class if you are expecting to gain much knowledge or skills out of it. I feel like I left this class learning barely anything new compared to the amount of time I was forced to spend in lectures. |

BMGT110 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/27/2023 |
This class is an hour and 15 minutes long so it is boring as no electronics are allowed. There are barely any assignments so you have to make sure you do well on each one or else one could tank your grade. The TA's grade is on a rubric so if you miss something you could lose 2 points for something silly such as missing a title. When taking notes in class I recommend writing the grade breakdown down so you make sure you hit each point so you don't lose points. The biggest assignment is a franchise assignment which you should start early because it is hard to find companies that are willing to work with you. |

Probably one of the most interesting classes ive taken. It was really fun, he makes it super engaging and is good at connecting it to the real world etc... His assignments are also really well thought out and give us some real world business experience. The one down is the grading system in this class. Each assignment has its own weight (theres like 5 probably not including attendance) each worth 10 points. What I wasn't a huge fan off was harsh grading for paper format (e.g. spacing etc...). Other than that great class. |

Professor Miller is a very fun, engaging, and energetic instructor. His class is also not that difficult with no exams. Just a few papers around 750-950 words that are graded leniently, as long as you use the right format. His formatting directions are confusing, so go to office hours to clear that up with a TA if needed. The class content is very interesting and also useful for your own professional development. Overall, if you want an interesting and relatively easy Gen-Ed, take this class. |

Listen to this. I got all a's and b's in my other classes. I take this class as a "free" elective and this class pounds me. Workload is not bad at all. Attendance is mandatory. Miller is just the biggest prick of all time and you can tell. I got a 100 on all assignments accept the franchise paper and came out with a C+. Does not make sense at all. I go to office hours and ask him to tell me what I could do better. The guy destroys me for no reason. Class is cool and all with no exams, but the guy is a prick. |

Overall easy A. He is very strict about formatting in grading his written assignments. Does not post the rubric for his assignments, he just shows it in class for a few minutes for you to write down. Doesn't give much direction for his assignments, but doesn't grade too harshly on the content. He tries to make jokes in class, but can come off a bit rude or insensitive sometimes. No exams. Class attendance is basically required with an exit ticket at the end of each class. No phone policy is enforced, but wasn't a problem to me. |

Jeff Miller is ferda. Don’t use your phone in class, be prepared to take notes on an iPad or paper, and always show up (attendence is mandatory). Do that and format your papers properly (as long as you try your best and format it properly, following the rubric, you should have no trouble getting an A). No exams, just assignments. Can’t explain importance of formatting. Overall, Miller is a super nice guy and you learn a lot from him. Very equitable and gives you a lot of opportunities to succeed, in and out of the classroom. |

His lectures can be a little bit long and disengaging but for the most part it is easy to pay attention. He interacts with his students in class and if you hate cold calling, dont take this class. Other than that all the assignments are pretty easy and relevant to what you are doing in class. There are no exams but you can't use your phone in class, which I didn't really mind. |

The class itself is super easy and manageable. The lectures are 75 minutes long though and boring and there are no electronics allowed. You only have like 5 major assignments a year but Jeff grades them on formatting instead of content which is so stupid. I still recommend the class but just be warned. |

Really easy A. 5 essays in the semester and all of them are free 100% if you format them correctly. Attendance is mandatory and graded and you lose points if you take your phone out during class. This class was so interesting to me! Jeff Miller's lectures are sprinkled with a variety of fun and exciting information and videos. You'll NEVER get bored in class and every moment is enjoyable. He is super chill and has a lax phone/electronic policy so feel free to take them out. The assignments are also very content based so don't focus on the formatting and just make sure you have good writing. Overall only take this class for the credits or if you suffer from insomnia. |

Very good lecturer. He keeps the class interesting and engaging. Very few real assignments, and they are pretty much can you follow directions. He keeps the class very stress-free but still teaches you a lot of very interesting and useful stuff. I was skeptical about this class, but I do think I learn a lot of valuable stuff. That said, if you are incapable of not looking at your phone for an hour STAY AWAY. He has an incredibly strict no devices policy and he will call you out if you try. I swear he can smell a phone turn on it was wild to watch. But if you aren't an iPad kid- great lecturer. |

Easy A, Great Professor. Pros: - 30mins of the 1hr 15mins are spent dedicated to just news stories, rather funny and interesting - The lecture portion of the class at times brings real-world scenarios, and its actually really insightful. - Easy assignments - You do this online simulation, and you need 15 mins of participation once a week to get credit (also its kinda fun) - ~4-5 Papers that are between 750-950 words. Some are annoying, but its spread out, and you get plenty of time to do it. Cons: - Professor Miller can sometimes be harsh on the cellphone & electronic policy and needs to go on rambles about it every single day. Don't try using your computer or phone, it just is not worth it. - Attendance is MANDATORY. Every class is 1% of your grade, there is a 4-sentence assignment you have to turn in on paper at the end of each class. If you need a business elective, I-series course, or need a class, TAKE IT. |

I REALLY liked this class! No busy work, only a really big project where you essentially create a business plan/pitch for a franchise you theoretically start. There is an additional video pitch you have to do for the franchise assignment, as well as a book you have to read (but the book options are very interesting in my opinion) and two reflection assignments. There are 1 pt attendance grades every day, so go to class. Also, DO NOT use your phones or laptops in class. He will make you feel bad for doing so. Class is really enjoyable though and his teaching is incredibly engaging. He's funny and incorporates a lot of his experiences and opinions into the class, which I found very interesting. He does go through the slides quickly, but you don't really need to take notes because there's nothing in the class graded on content knowledge. He spends about 25% of the class on news stories depending on the day, but it's the most engaging part of the class and I think you learn a lot from it. Overall, this class is super easy, enjoyable, and worth it! |

This class is taught like we are 6 years old. Professor Miller tries to be hip and funny and he is just obnoxious. He randomly calls out students and says such rude things that no teacher should say like asking students if they have student loans and asking them how much money they make. He grades papers like elementary school. He doesn't actually care what you write because all he cares about is how you format your paper to the most extreme level. He cries if your font or margins are not up to his standard. He treats college students like children. he thinks he is doing something by trying to scream at people for going on their phones and he feels the need to talk about it every single class for the first 10 minutes as if he didn't say it every single day for the whole year. |

BMGT289I Expecting an A Anonymous 01/02/2023 |
I did enjoy the class, but here are the pros and cons pros you know what the assignment is every week. Ever since the first week, you have the same 500-word reflection due every Friday night. You can easily bs this, but 500 words are still 500 words. I enjoyed the news stories at the beginning of the class. It was a bit of humor and boredom relief before he went into his slides on content His attendance policy is very simple. He randomly calls on people during class. If you are called on and are present, or don't get called on u get a 100 for the week. If you get called on and skipped class, you get a 0 for the week. So, you can skip class, but at your own risk. cons- I would have had a 100% in the class if I formatted it right (I ended up with a 93). I did every single assignment exactly how I was supposed to. One time I got a 50% on a reflection because it was Arial, not Times New Roman. Another time, I got a 50% because I forgot my name at the top of the paper. Obviously it was my fault, but taking half off for formatting is a little much. It is a problem communicating with him. I once had a problem and emailed him 4 times. He said to come to his office hours then canceled them for 3 days straight without notice. When I did finally go to OH, he said "ok I'll fix it" and never did until I bugged him even more. Finally, the no laptop policy in class is annoying. I totally get it because I would be on youtube all class, but still annoying. All in all, this class is very easy to get an A. If you show up to class every day and do your work on time in the format you should, you will ace it. |

Do not come into this course thinking you just "turn your brain off" and get an A easily like some other courses. You have to do 500 words every week, which for the ultra lazy is not the move. This is a dealbreaker for many people, but he will cold call (randomly call on) people. If you don't respond, you're marked as absent. However you can respond and just say you don't know. NO phones/laptops he will get annoyed about it and could ask you to leave. And you even have to write a book report and some other 750+ word bs Take something else, there's easier As. |

Definitely take this class if you're looking for an easy A. As long as you do the assignments, you will get and A on them. There is a decent amount of work, but none of it is hard or too overwhelming, and as I said, as long as you do it, you will get an A on it. The reason for his low rating is because he is very poor at explaining assignments, and over half of my class was caught in a cheating scandal, partly due to needing clarification on assignments in the groupme. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs to boost their GPA, but whatever you do, do not join the groupme |

This class was honestly one of my favorite classes at UMD. Jeff cares about his students and can be really understanding. There are no tests, including no final exam, because he doesn't want students to stress over his class which I found so helpful. The news stories discussed in class can be boring at times, but some of them allow for great discussion. The content is very straightforward and the weekly reflections were great. Honestly, this was one of my favorite classes this semester (Fall 2020). If you enjoy the material (general business stuff) I'll highly recommend. People complain about the news stories but it's not that bad at all. If anything, it gives you ideas about what to do and what not to do with your company. Since nobody mentioned this, you'll have to pay about 70 for a program for the class. In my opinion its worth it given the fact that I am interested in business. Even if your not its graded on participation. On the real, just do the work (its slight) and you'll walk away with an A. Miller is a great guy tho, mad funny and approachable. Loves what he teaches and always cracking dad jokes and stuff. |

First of all, he spends over half the class covering news stories which will never be on his exams and then proceeds to rush through his class material at the end of class, usually not finishing everything. He goes through his content VERY quickly and makes his students lives even more difficult by making them take hand written notes and enforcing a very strict no technology policy. Then, if you happen to have missed a lot of his notes (which you probably will), he doesn't post his slides until the day before an exam. The exams are short and fairly easy if you study your notes and his slides but the questions can be weirdly specific sometimes. Lastly, Miller does NOT round, I ended the class with an 89.93% and he would not budge. Overall a cool and interesting professor just needs to fix several big issues with his class. |

This class gives you a decent overview for all business majors. The class is about half content and half news stories which is nice because you get a chance to discuss stuff that's happening in the real world. Exams aren't bad if you set aside 2 days or so to study. Miller is pretty funny and it was one of my favorite classes I've taken so far. |

I want to rate him higher because his class really is interesting and a favorite of mine overall but there are some serious caveats. He goes over news stories and engages with students about what they think about the stories. He has a way of making the classroom feel smaller than it is, which is a rare trait. HOWEVER, this news story content, interesting as it may be, is irrelevant to anything that you are tested on and I find it VERY frustrating how little time he spends on course material! Most days it's only between 10-15 minutes of slides related to coursework This, of course, makes it impossible to write notes while he flies through the slides. Which is even more annoying because there is a STRICT no technology rule so your notes must be handwritten. But wait, there's more. He does not post any of those precious slides until the day before testing so you have no opprotunity to study or view them after class. You can only binge study. I know that he does this to encourage attendance but there has got to be a better way. |

Pretty funny guy, although he gets off tangent sometimes. We spent about half the class going over recent news, and the other half was a powerpoint. Tests are pretty straightforward, they're straight off the book and notes. He doesn't post the slides until the day of the exam, and he does graded attendance checks, so you gotta go everyday. Would take this class again. |

DO NOT TAKE MILLER! Going to class is a waste of time. He says he will put up the slides for exams 1 day before the exam, which is BS first off, then fails to put it up until hours before. He is a really interesting guy, but holy crap does he not know how to run a class. He does not know how to use ELMS, how to grade assignments, and most importantly how to write a quiz/exam. I never missed a class and was always attentive but did poor on the tests because they dont test your knowledge on the subject, but instead if you can memorize useless facts/definitions. |

He is simultaneously the best and worst professor I've ever had. Very funny and interesting lectures. No group projects or annoying presentations. He doesn't take attendance or use clickers. Exams are multiple choice, true/false, and matching. On the other hand, he is virtually unreachable by email. You will feel like you're back in high school because he has a no cell phone/laptop policy. He will LITERALLY disrupt is OWN lecture to call you out saying you are disrupting the class because you are on your phone when he is actually the one being disruptive. The same will happen if you attempt to leave early. He will stop HIS OWN lecture to say you should have told him if you wanted to leave early. What's next, he's gonna ask to spit out your gum?? Welcome back to high school. Another EXTREMELY annoying thing he does is not put up lecture notes until the day BEFORE the exam. This is made worse by the fact that news stories leave him rushing through lectures, so you may not get good notes. You are then expected to use those notes to study up until the day before the exam. Such a terrible way to lead a class. Exams will test your knowledge of the smallest acronyms and names of ppl so study those. He assigns 2 homeworks that are basically papers with no real rubric and he will grade it very harshly. Good luck figuring out what you did wrong. And as said before, do not buy the book. You won't open it. |

The class itself is very boring - the material isn't interesting. I actually even switched out of the business major... Miller is a nice guy, pretty funny, but he's a terrible lecturer. There are often times where he doesn't even know where in the textbook the class is. He is often confused of what module you need to watch as well. He also does a segment at the end of class called "news stories" which are really interesting, but can take away time from the lecture. The exam questions were weird... he heavily emphasizes on reading the textbook and taking notes from his powerpoints, but sometimes the questions are from neither of those sources and can be nonsensical. This is not a class to breeze by, you do have to put in some effort but not that much. There weren't a lot of assignments - 2 papers, 2 quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. |

BMGT372 Anonymous 09/08/2016 |
Very pretentious know-it-all. The class itself isn't hard, and attendance isn't a big deal. He puts random questions on the exams. The exams are all multiple choice but you will get many questions that have more than one answer. He's always bouncing up and down with his rolly backpack and twisting his coffee in the middle of your face. Reminds me of the teacher that kicks Seth Rogen out of the high school in "Pineapple Express". |

I don't understand for the life of me how so many students have praised Miller on his teaching skills. Honestly the WORST teacher I have had at UMD. I worked my butt off studying, showing up to class everyday and taking notes. Miller teaches about 30 of class lectures and the remaining 45 minutes he goes over news stories that we aren't even being graded on. He doesn't allow phones (which I understand) or laptops (which is ridiculous because he flies threw the notes making it impossible to handwrite all the notes). Emailing is completely pointless because he doesn't respond to you and when you go to his office hours you end up leaving even more confused and hopeless because he doesn't care about his students! It is literally sink or swim all on your own. Theres only two homework and the rest is quizzes and exams (which if you aren't a great test taker, you're pretty much screwed) The TAs are just as bad and they aren't allowed to help students by conducting study review sessions (one TA did that and got in major trouble...which then what is the point of a TA?) I am not a student that received a bad grade and therefore am writing a negative review, I truly feel this way about Miller and want to give future students an insight on my experience taking his class. I highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. |

BMGT110 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/28/2015 |
Professor Miller is a great guy and an interesting lecturer. In an hour and 15 minute class, over half of it consists of sitting there and listening to modern news stories. While this is interesting and makes you want to go to class, it also results in him not having enough time to go over the slides. He rushes through them so quickly that you never get the chance to write everything down that he puts on the slides. If he could just reduce news stories by ten minutes and put the ten minutes towards notes, the information would be a lot easier to grasp. The main problem with Miller is the way he makes his exams. Although the material is VERY easy, he makes the exams so obnoxiously specific that even if you know all of the material by heart, you will still most likely not get an A. His tests are all about strict memorization, not whether or not you understand the material. If you know everything, but forget one small acronym that he went over very briefly, you will get the question wrong. His favorite thing to put on tests are "all of the above" and "none of the above." Seriously, these options will be on at least half of the questions. This makes the questions much more difficult than they need to be. Overall, professor Miller is a very interesting and funny guy. However, the class is made more difficult than it needs to be. If you can memorize definitions, you will do great. If not, be ready to study a lot for exams if you want to do well, especially because the three exams are 80% of your grade. Make sure you study the slides he puts up and go to class, and above all, do well on the exams. I felt as if I knew the information in this class better than any other I took this semester, yet this class was my only B. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. YOU NEVER NEED IT AND IT COSTED ME 300 DOLLARS. |

Miller has a great personality and makes the business stories really entertaining. Although, he spends about 40 + minutes of every class talking about random stories and not class material. Once he finally finishes the news stories, he rushes though slides and it is almost impossible to keep up. He also seems to think that everyone in the class already has a decent understanding of business, but it is an intro course and he skips over alot of basics. His exams are not very well written. He requires you to study rediculous amounts of power point slides for each exam, when the test is only about 40 multiple choice questions. It will not be an easy class if you are new to business and you will struggle/waste millions of hours studying pointless slides. He is an entertaining and funny guy though, that's about the only positive. |

BMGT110 Expecting a B Anonymous 12/18/2015 |
A lot of people have said it already, but Miller is definitely an interesting professor to have. He does about 30-45 minutes of comedic discussion about current events at the beginning of each class, so you could probably come that late and miss nothing except some entertainment. He is horrible with grading assignments and answering emails promptly, and he does not post grade totals so you will have to do that yourself. He also doesn't allow technology (laptops, phones) in class unless you get permission from him beforehand. It was funny to call people out the first few times, but it gets really annoying when you're trying to check the time or something and he tells you loudly to "live in the now" and put the phone away. I hope you read and write fast because he goes quickly and you won't get the PPT notes until the day before your exams otherwise. His exams (2 midterms & a final)/quizzes (only 2) seem straightforward because it's all multiple choice and true/false, but he will definitely pull out some obscure facts from lessons so good luck on that. He also says you need the textbook, which can be helpful, but it's not necessary because he covers in class what he will test you on. Overall, not a particularly hard or boring class, but you still have to put in some effort! |

Pretty much all the positive things people have said about this guy are true. He's funny and and has an obsession with keeping students updated on current events. His tests, pop quizzes, and announced quizzes are all multiple choice. He can be a little tricky with the wording of his questions so watch out for that. Oh and acronyms, he always asks about acronyms and the tests so make sure you know those. Also he only posts lecture notes shortly before the exam. He says he wants us to rely on our own notes first and just use his for brushing up on topics. I am not a big fan of that, but its whatever. As far as homework we had one 1-page reflection and then there is this online simulation thing that you have to participate in once a week. The simulation looks confusing, but if you just try a little you'll ace that portion of the class. Now to moving on to Miller's major downfall. He almost never replies to emails. It annoys the living everything out of me. |

I feel like I've actually learned a lot through the current events that he shares. I don't know about others, but when we apply what we learn to real life situations, it makes more sense to me and sticks in my head for a longer period of time. He is funny and very energetic, just don't fall asleep in class and do your homework and you should be set! It's a very simple material, people often overlook it due to its simplicity and get B's and even C's. But you shouldn't. It's honestly really easy. |

Miller is a fucking clown. He spends at least 40 minutes of every class playing Tosh.0 with business stories he finds on the internet. Don't get me wrong it's extremely entertaining, but it's 40 minutes you really could have spent doing anything else. As a stand-up comedian, he's great. In fact, his skills as a teacher are his best joke. The man doesn't respond to emails. He doesn't send reminders about quiz or exam dates. He doesn't even post homework assignments, so you get about 30 ELMS messages asking what the homework was every time. He doesn't allow laptops, which makes it very difficult to keep up with his lectures as he speeds through his slides. He's extremely disorganized and clearly doesn't give a shit about his students. I had him for 110, and he could be different for other classes, but this was my experience. You'll still do fine, just know what to expect going in. |

You people may question why the GPA is so low. Half of the kids dont show up to class or fall asleep. These people do this since he posts the slides he uses during class to study. But that doesnt mean you dont come to class. Thats why they do bad. Overall if you go to class study the slides he puts up before a quiz or exam you will definitely get an A. GRADES: there was a game called glo-bus we played with a group of people within your class. I thought it was easy and fun and an easy grade too. There was 2 quizzes it was quite easy but he also throws in video questions which I never watched so if you do watch you should be fine the quizzes are like 10 questions match up true false and multiple choice. and theres 3 exams all fairly similar format like the quizzes. Also participation in the game is critical it counts for participation credit and attendence for class. He does claim that he checks the cameras in class for attendance to so its on you if you believe that or not. So as if it wasn't clear enough with all the other reviews, Miller is one of the best professors you will have at UMD. This was my first Supply Chain Class and I wasn't sure what to expect - especially since I was the only freshman in a upper level course with all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Well it's safe to say, I loved this class! Miller has been teaching this class for 14 years now I think and he clearly knows what he is doing. I highly recommend him and this class! Now here is what you want to know: Difficulty: 4 (out of 10) Tests: Super Straight forward (like seriously just go over his slides) Textbook: He says to but no, you don't need it. Papers: None Projects: All group, and all easy! Lectures: Starts with news stories and keeps things interesting. Overall: TAKE THIS CLASS AND TAKE MILLER FOR ANY CLASSES HE TEACHES. |

Miller is one of the finest professors the Smith School has to offer. This is now my 2nd class I have taken with Professor Miller, and it's safe to say that he is my favorite teacher at UMD. He starts off every class, regardless of the course, with a 25-35 minute class discussion about various news articles he found surfing on the internet. You can tell that he puts a great deal of effort into the news stories, considering that he's practically memorized every single punchline and one-liner that coincides with each article. He has excellent comedic timing, and has nearly mastered the art of sarcasm. It's always a great way to start class. Miller does his thing, the class often laughs pretty hard, we get into some relevant and intriguing discussions, and by the time it's over, you're all warmed up for class. When it comes to credentials, Miller has more than enough. He's worked on dozens of supply chain systems throughout his career and helped found an asset management and supply chain consulting firm. He constantly refers to his prior experiences during lectures that provide a much needed perspective of the industry. His tests aren't really that bad at all. If I had one complaint, and many others feel this way, it would be that his exams are more of a test to see how well you memorized the material rather than actually applying the terms. If you study the slides really well then you should have no problem getting B's and A's. Definitely recommend this class or anything with Miller for that matter. He's truly one-of-a-kind |

Great guy. Every class is virtually the same: first 30 minutes news stories (basically a discussion) then he goes over material. He's very funny and easily approachable. Very knowledgeable about the subject as well although he gets really ticked off if he catches you texting or having side conversations in class. Tests are all multiple choice and straight from his slides although there are always a few curveball/obscure questions. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. everything comes straight from slides. Professor Miller is an amazing professor! His supply chain mgmt class was the best class of the semester. I loved going to class--he taught for like 30 mins and spent the 1st half of the class going over current interesting news articles-he is seriously hilarious! and you wont feel like skipping a single class. His class isn't much work. The only thing we needed to worry about working on is studying for the exams which were like super straight forward, provided that you memorized all the acronyms& terms and whatever he has in his slides-and I mean literally memorize it! All his exam questions are from his slides although he is going to say the ebook is required and the book is fair game for the exam--you really don't need the book so don't spend money trying to buy it. There will also be a pop quiz during the semester although he will have 2 assigned in his syllabus--it's only worth 2.5% of the grade though--and there will be extra credit but you get like 0.5% credit for writing a 1 page paper about your experience at IKEA or at a self check out and stuff like that.. BMGT 372 was the best class I took last semester and I can only say that caz of Prof Miller. If you need to take bmgt 372 take it with Jeff Miller! |

Also, there were various quiz questions throughout the lectures where if you answered correctly with your clicker, you would get .05% extra credit. There were 2 quizzes and 3 exams. He presents news stories before the start of class, and they are very informative and funny. He really tries to tie what you are learning in class with current events occurring around the world. His powerpoints are really good (probably the best I have ever seen) and he puts them up on blackboard so you can study from them for quizzes and exams. There are also many trivia questions given during class which you answer with your clicker (for every question you answer correctly you get 0.05% extra credit). The quizzes and exams are all multiple choice an extremely easy (as long as you review notes from the book and his powerpoints). He does give opportunities for extra credit (you can raise you grade up to 2.5%) so take advantage of them. He goes through news stories for the beginning of of the class (usually the first 1/2 hour) and makes jokes all the time. Study the lecture slides and know the terms from the class. He creates exams that really test whether you remember the info from his slides and lecture, don't plan on studying for just a few minutes before the exam...spend time on the exams, there's really not that much else you need to work on in the class. Professor Miller's class is interesting and entertaining. I hardly needed motivation to attend every class. He begins with funny news stories and takes the class through lecture which he tries to make entertaining. Assignments are easy and he really tries to emphasize fun, group projects. The only negative part is his tests which are not only arbitrary, but do not test students on what they know, but rather how well they remember. Professor Miller was a funny and engaging guy, and he kept an otherwise boring class somewhat interesting. Basically, the entire course was about learning definitions of business terms. Kinda boring. Also, so of Miller's jokes incorporated some of the students. While funny, they could have been construed as inappropriate at times.
