Class is boring but he is a chill professor. Knows what he is talking about. Homework is very long and can be a pain but exams are pretty much mcgraw hill questions and an application problem. |

This course felt like a little more in depth version of 221, there was a good mix of old topics, extensions on old topics, and new topics. I would say that overall, the course is structured to be very fair grading wise. He offers practice exams that are very similar to the actual exams and uses examples in class that will be on the exam. I did well on both midterms with an A and just using the practice exams and lecture notes to study. He also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities that can help boost your grade. He had a policy where his course was “flipped” so all homework and extra assignments were always due at 2PM before class on the day he was supposed to lecture on the associated material. It was very hard to rely only on the textbook for complicated homework assignments and his personalized “case projects”. This is where I struggled the most with my understanding. So you basically only came to class after your assignments were done. Which of course, led a lot of people not to show up at all especially since his lectures were extremely boring. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend taking this course with Loeb if you can avoid it. There is a ton of homework (especially at the end of the semester) and the case projects are so tedious without having him lecture on the material first. His lectures can get very boring, he mumbles and is very hard to hear, which just make for a not very engaging experience. |

He is very smart and kind. He gives each student 2 extensions to use no questions asked and makes a lot of jokes in class. Class can be a little boring but if you become friends with your groupmates it helps a lot. |

Super nice professor and very understanding. He is also incredibly smart, look him up on Google he has a Wikipedia page on his research. The homeworks are due at 2pm before class which is sometimes annoying but he is also very flexible if you ask him for an extension on homeworks and projects. Tests are very similar to the practice that he gives so if you study those, you will do fine. Although the tests are all written word problems and few multiple choice, he gives a lot of partial credit. I would recommend making friends in the class because although he is a nice professor, the work can get tedious. He also gives A LOT of extra credit during class for jeopardy and group activities. I would give him a 4.5 rating if I could |

Marty Loeb is such a sweetheart. He is a nice guy who loves making little jokes which often fail, but because he can't tell jokes it's hilarious. Lectures are boring, but if you are an accounting major it should be interesting. If not, the material is easy enough to review on your own to still do well since some of it is a 221 refresher. He gives plenty of bonus points and exams are very fair. I love Marty! |

Professor Zhang is a great professor. It is crucial you go to class and try hard not to miss class if you can avoid it. He condenses the 90-ish page slides into examples that are very easy to follow. I could imagine this class would be tough if you don't go to the lectures though. Exams are very heavily based on the sample exam. It's basically the same questions with the numbers changed around and an added question or two not from the practice exam. If you know how to do everything on the practice exam you can get an 80%+ on each exam. Homeworks are big time consumers so it would be good to start those ahead of time. I would take this class again. |

Professor Loeb is a nice man and means well. He's flexible with due dates, responds quickly to emails, and gives a lot of opportunities to earn bonus points. HOWEVER, none of that makes up for how awful it feels to sit in that classroom for lectures. I find the class itself boring, particularly because it is just a review and a small extension of what we learned in 221. His voice is boring, he makes tiny jokes that no one laughs at that just make the room uncomfortable, the slides are difficult to understand, there's a group assignment for nearly every lecture, which is difficult to do sometimes because no one pays attention in the class. The MyLab homework assignments are very very long sometimes, but that is not factored into when they are due. |

Great professor. Go to lecture because he has his own methods that are different from the book and he does not record his lectures. Gives ample time for HWs and sample exams are very similar to actual exams given in class. |

I will agree that he is both a reasonable and kind professor. However, his lectures are insanely boring and very hard to stay engaged with. Moreover, sometimes class time will be allocated towards him going over a problem. Occasionally, it can take up to 45 minutes to complete one problem and at times it appears he is unfamiliar with what is going on. Sometimes it even feels like he is in his own world and could just keep lecturing for hours. Nonetheless, he is a really smart guy but does not have the social skills possessed by most professors. He is very good at giving feedback and responding promptly to questions. He will also give test back very quickly. Overall, in some areas he is worse than the average professor but in other areas he is better. I think the areas he is better at are behind the scenes (grading, feedback, emailing, etc.). |

He is a reasonable and kind professor. However, there are so many homework assignments and the lectures and boring and hard to follow. Thankfully, there is a lot of extra credit and the class is pretty easy. I did like how we were put into groups for the semester and had group assignments. We even did accounting Jeopardy and that was fun. For the exams, just review his slides and be able to do the practice problems he assigned throughout the semester. Reviewing the textbook or homework questions would NOT be helpful. |

Dr. Zhang was a very good professor and very knowledgeable about the content. Very nice person and very good at explaining difficult concepts that are confusing from the textbook and slides. |

Super nice guy and very laidback teaching style. The exams weren't a huge part of the grade so there's a lot of extra work and assignments you have to do. The homework is typically hard and time consuming but overall fairly easy class. |

I would advise anyone reading this to take this course elsewhere if you can. Finch is a hard-ass and does nothing to make the class nor the content easier to understand. He gives out hw assignments which take many hours to complete. Since they are graded for completion by the grad TA, you do not know if you even did it correctly. He only uses a chalkboard in class, no powerpoints whatsoever. His exams are ludicrous; the problems are so much harder than the ones practiced in class. In fact, every exam we had a line of students waiting to ask him to clarify questions, but he did a shit job of helping us out. We consistently went over the allotted time for the exams only to delay the following section from taking theirs and so on and so forth. Don't stick around hoping that things get better in this class, because they don't. |

I understand that he wants to challenge students to really think about the material, but when you got 90% of the class lined up during the final to ask questions, there's a good chance you're overdoing it. He takes off points for labels and other small details which can really impact your exam score. He would say certain types of questions were on the exam, then come exam time only a couple of those would be on there. These questions were 2x harder than in-class examples. |

This guys reviews are surprisingly positive, I had him 2 semesters ago and he is literally the worst professor I have ever had at Smith. He seems like a nice person, but he kinda sucks at teaching. He didn't use power points of any kind. He pretty much just stood up there and lectured. His exams were tough. He did give partial credit for stuff, so that was kinda nice. If you don't mind teaching yourself by reading the text, by all means go ahead and take his class. Just keep in mind that you are paying for this whole college education thing, so if you wanna get your money's worth, take this class with literally anyone else. |

Best professor of business school. I wish he taught more classes so I can take. Taking this class probably the best experience I have had. The lecture sections were all very enjoyable and I have learned so much in this class. Exams are very straight forward. Review for exams are very clear and precise, so you know what is expected. There are two analytical cases and they were very useful in real life. DO Take this class! |

Prof. Finch is a really good professor, who knows his stuff, but he isn't by any means easy. You really have to put in the effort to do well in his class. There are 3 exams, which can be difficult, as compared to what is done in class, so you really need to know your stuff. Also, a note... don't forget to write down and label everything on the exam, or you might get a surprise in the end, because he will take off points if you forget. If you really want to learn and are willing to put in the effort, I highly suggest that you take him. If not, I highly suggest that you look for a different professor. |

He is an alright professor. You basically have to teach yourself in this class by reading and doing the homework. The homework isn't checked or anything, but since he doesn't lecture in class, just goes over homework problems that anyone has, you should probably attempt the homework. This class also goes pretty fast, we covered a chapter a class, so halfway through the semester people would just stop doing the homework because they didn't have time to read and do all the homework. If you want a good grade you really have to make this class a priority. Also he doesn't check his email, he doesn't put grades up on elms, and it's 1 day before the deadline to submit final grades on Testudo and he still hasn't uploaded anything. All in all, he's a nice guy, but I wouldn't recommend taking him. |

Honestly this was one of the hardest classes I took at the B school. Finch is a nightmare. He doesn't teach the material properly and goes off tangents on movies. His exams are extremely hard because he doesn't teach anything, so this course is basically a teach it yourself one. He takes forever to grade material. Honestly avoid Finch at all cost, unless you want to struggle to get your A. The only good thing I see out of this course is that his class really nit picks out the destined accountants. |

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! This guy does not actually teach the material but assumes students have read the chapter before hand and does a few 20 minute long problems in class which thoroughly confused the class because we didn't read/teach ourselves the chapters. Tests were miserable, exam 1 average was 65 and exam 2 average was 47. No one in the class finished the exam and pages were left blank. The final exam was just as hard. Final grades have not yet been posted, but he keeps saying there will be no curve which I just don't see to be possible. WAY harder than 310 and 311, literally take any other professor. Finch is actually a really great guy and is hilarious, but is an awful/hard teacher. |

Top-notch professor. Lectures were very good and to the point, and he does a good job of allocating class time. The in-class problems at the end of each class are very helpful, and along with the HWs, are pretty much all you need to study for the exams (1 midterm and 1 non-cumulative final). He tells you exactly problems which problems to study too. A decent amount of work throughout the semester as you have HW due for every class, but it is graded based on effort so it's not that big a deal. The 5 case studies aren't very difficult either. |

Finch is the best accounting professor I have ever had in UMD. He really knows how to teach and is very very engaging (he remembers our names by the second day of class). The exams are very challenging but you really get a lot of of his class. If you really want to learn accounting, take classes with Finch. Again, not the easiest professor but great learning experience! |

A very good lecturer (probably the best I've had in my accounting classes). If you're looking for a class you can go and just look at the internet because the powerpoints are online he is not the guy for you. He really teaches students, writing on the board rather than using power points given to him by the textbook. Does not check homework, but bases class off questions from the homework so it is a good idea to come in with some questions. You will usually get out off class about 15 minutes early because he makes very effective use of class time. The tests are challenging and he has said that he does not curve. He is a HUGE movie buff and likes to quote movies in class. Also tells some funny stories. Really tough to get an A in his class, but you will walk away feeling as though you have learned something. A really great professor, but not an easy class. |

Challenging professor and solid lecturer. Will weed out those who are destined not to be accountants (like myself). |

The class is not meant to be incredibly hard, but the textbook is almost completely useless, so unless you can figure out things with very little help this class will be a pain. Also, her heavy accent makes it hard to understand and she moves very quickly in class. Its three exams (non cumulative final), one group project, homework and participation. Fairly graded and lots of partial credit on exams, but they are hard and are not really cognizant of the ridiculously easy homework assignments. Get perfect scores on everything and average a mid B on tests and you could get an A easily |

Cheng is an amazing professor! Class consisted of: 3 Exams (1 dropped) 1 Final Homework Class Participation Just study the problems he hands out and the suggested problems and everything will be easy for your first 3 exams. The Final is the only thing that really seperates the A's and B's, so I would have the HIGHEST possible score going into the final because you WILL need it! The Final is the hardest thing that you will ever see. Great Professor overall, i learned a lot! |

The course was based on 3 tests (2 midterms and a final) which were each 20% of your grade, 10% in-class exercises and participation, 20% homework, and 2 group projects (each 5%). It moved quickly and covered a lot of material. The projects, class participation, and homework were all easy 100%'s given you do the work, but the tests were fairly difficult. They consisted of a few multiple choice and problems. You have to read the chapters once or twice and do lots of practice problems in order to do well on the tests. Expect to reproduce financial statements from memory. |

one of the best professors in smith school. His lectures are brief and "to the point" in other words what's on the slides is in the Exam..so konw the couple of problems he posts on slides...and practice the in-class prob he passes out..and you will be MORE THAN fine! |

BMGT321 Expecting a B terpinator 11/26/2008 |
The entire grade for the class was based on 3 exams and an arbitrary 10% participation grade. The exams were much tougher than the practice homework problems or what was taught in class. The material was pretty dry and so were the lectures. I personally don't know of anyone who received an A in this class. I would STRONGLY suggest taking this class with a different professor. |
