Never went to class, still going to get an A because this guy is lax on everything. He's not a good lecturer and his slides are usually all over the place, but the material is easy enough to learn on your own. A lot of it can be done from CFA practice resources and the textbook. Homework is 25% of the grade and graded for completion, participation 5%, one midterm for 30%, final is 40%. He gives tons of partial credit on the exams and they are very similar to the practice questions and exam review. Exams are mostly math questions with 2-3 parts and some written conceptual problems, no multiple choice. You also get a note sheet for both exams. As long as you can figure out the practice questions, you'll be completely fine in this class. |

Absolutely terrible. He should not be teaching undergrad students. His lectures were all over the place and the content on slides are inconsistent. Exams are way too long and expectations were poorly set. Take 343 with anyone else. |

This professor is amazing. He is so accommodating to all of his students. He responds to emails so fast, which is extremely helpful. He wants all of his students to succeed. Would take him again 100% |

He just rambled during class. He didn't take enough to explain all of the math, but went into depth on theoretical concepts that didn't matter. It was a waste of time going to class. The grade is only homework, 2 case studies, and the midterm/final. The curve is crazy though. |

I took this class bc of Fuller's 4* planetterp rating, which turned out to be fucking useless. Not sure if he threw his previous lesson plan out of the window over the summer but my experience is much closer to those reviews left from this semester. I got a comfortable A in 340, but I barely retain anything fuller goes over because he acts like we're phd students and breezes through 2 chapters/lecture, and there might be 2 practice problems in class all week. He's a nice guy but does that even matter? |

This guys slides are almost as hopeless as him. It is week 6 and he hasn't taught us a concrete math concept. The exam is going to be all self study and self taught so prepare yourself for that if you plan on taking 343 with him. He just spends the first hour of class reading off a newpaper article and talks about how much he admires Warren Buffet and the last 15 minutes of class speeding through an entires chapter worth of material and just assuming the students understand everything. I am currently in class right now and no one in this entire class is paying attention to him because he just goes off topic every 5 seconds and talks about anything besides whats important to the exam, there people in front of me checking mlb, day trading, cool math games, and sports gambling. No one is taking it serious because you truly cannot learn in this class. I wish you all luck i'd give him a zero star if its an option |

This is like part two of 340. This guy donest really explain the math too much so you'll have to learn everything on your own which is annoying since you're paying all this money to attend the school and he doesn't even explain the concepts. Structure of the class is very poor as he just picks out very niche topics to throw on his slides and it is quite literally impossible to focus in his class Class is doable but expect a lot of self teaching and challenging exams |

This guy is a joke. He just yaps all class about random stuff going on in the market that day. Doesn't teach or explain a single book concept and just cannot teach in general. It is impossible to learn in his class and his slides give you just about no information. This is one of those classes where you have to pull out the actual textbook and read those chapters weekly if you want to do well. So a LOT of time commitment for a decent grade is what Im trying to say. Good luck |

If I could rate Professor Ernst higher than 5 stars I would. He is probably the best teacher I have had at Smith. You can tell he actually cares about his students and enjoys the topics that he teaches in class. He makes difficult topics seem super easy because he explains them in simple terms and gives very good examples. If you come to class and do the homeworks you will do well. |

Lectures are SO interesting - I was never bored in this class and I never felt the urge to skip. The homeworks are fairly easy and Professor Ernst gives you a week to do them. The hardest part is that if you skip, there's basically nothing you can do to catch up other than get the notes from a friend because the Panapto recordings are horrible (bad audio and zero board visibility). The slides that he posts are similar to the class notes but not the same, and I found so many mistakes in them when it came to studying for the exam which also sucked. However, he curves a lot and he makes the course material very interesting. Plus, he's super responsive and willing to help out. He reviewed the previous lectures material for 10 minutes every class which I also really liked, so I'd recommend taking this class with him. |

Pretty good teacher and knows what he talks about. I did poorly in the class because I did not study for exams, and I missed a lot of lectures due to being sick. I ended up with around a 69% and the curve in this class landed my final grade as a C, so overall I feel like most good students in the class would have a high B or A after the curve. |

Explains concepts extremely well in class and the class before midterm/final is a review of the material. Provides one practice exam, and gives ~5 HWs over the semester which aren't bad at all. He states upfront that his exams are difficult, but that he curves the class so many get an A (also a cheat sheet of any size is allowed on the exams). A great professor, I would highly recommend taking him. |

Ernst is the boy. His notes are a little messy but he takes time to make sure everyone gets it you just have to speak up if he's going too fast. His office hours are super helpful he takes the time to make sure you understand everything you might have missed during class. |

Great professor! Great on workloads, only a few homework sets. Just make sure you start on the homework’s early and do not wait for the last second as they count for the majority of your grade. He incorporates real life examples and even brings things such as Disney’s proxy votes into class to make the class super interesting. Prof Fuller somehow makes an 8am class enjoyable. Definitely take this professor if you have the chance. |

absolutely love and adore this professor. he is so understanding and very lenient when it comes to grading. there’s three parts of the grade all weighted a third: homework, midterm, and final. homework’s are so easy and he is lenient when he grades it. midterm and final are just like practice exams. |

The professor is super sweet. He is very responsive on email and grades homework and exams super fast. His practice exams are also similar to the actual exams, and his slides (plus in-class excels) are in-depth enough for you to understand the content by reading them. He clearly wants his students to succeed :) |

Brandon Han is the goat. I stopped going to lectures as I found it a little hard to follow along due to his accent, but that's not the fault of him. His slides are very helpful, but his review guides prior to exams are really what's key. Homework assignments are straightforward and mostly everyone gets a 100. Practice exams are pretty similar to the real thing too, no BS tricks. Can't recommend him for BMGT343 enough. |

This professor is so nice and understanding. Only downside of having him is he almost impossible to understand because of his accent, but his practice exams are so similar to the actual exams that it doesn't even matter. |

My least favorite finance class so far, but more due to the lecture style than Fuller himself. I was bored during the slides because he went super in-depth on really niche topics and had trouble paying attention. The course load is very light with a few homework, 2 small projects, and 2 exams. I didn't read the textbook but the homework problems are from there so it's good practice for the exam. Definitely need to study hard for the exams based on the practice problems he gives you, but manageable. Try to do well on the first exam since the curve will be bigger on the final and he grades assignments on a weighted scale. |

BMGT343 Expecting an A Anonymous 07/13/2023 |
Professor Fuller is super nice and actually cares about his students. There is not much in the grade-book so exams have high weights. But he provides exam review questions and steers away from conceptual questions. Also, he goes over the questions several times in-class & the days leading up to the exam. The only downside to this course is the grade distribution, but if you show up to lectures, do practice problems and take the time to understand the material, you will get an A. |

THE GOAT. I can honestly say that Professor Ernst is one of the best teachers I've had in my life. He makes sure to go over the foundations of every topic before diving into the more intuitive work. He is always open to discuss any issues you may have and he grades veryyyyyy leniently (the curves in this class is usually the average being an A). The class is easily digestible and I honestly learned a lot - I was almost never bored in class like I am in many other classes. It was a great experience and I would definitely take him again if possible. |

You can tell he really enjoys teaching this class. He does a great job explaining things and provides ample practice problems for exams. The concepts aren't always easy but he's always willing to help you if you ask. This class is kind of the next step from BMGT340. Overall, the class wasn't too hard at all and getting a formula sheet for exams was a huge help. |

Professor Fuller was a great professor. He lectures all class, but is very informative and he's willing to re-explain concepts if asked to. He makes all assignments clear, and always welcomes students into his classroom if they need help. Truly appreciated having a professor like him. He's also a great guy with a unique personality. Take him if you get the chance to! |

Professor Ernst is probably your best bet when taking this class (if he is teaching it). He is really flexible and nice, he records lectures and uploads them. Due to the nature of the class and how some of the subjects are dense and complicated for undergrad, Professor Ernst makes it clear that you should not stress about his class as he provides a generous curve. Overall, he is a great professor and is knowledgeable on the topic as it is part of his research. Definitely someone that is approachable outside of class as well for help and even for discussion on stocks if you're curious about them. Would highly recommend him for this class. |

Literally this man is a saint. Even if you don't know whats going on the practice exams are so similar to the tests that it's actually amazing. He curves everything and I got an A because of it. He is so understanding and the sweetest professor I've ever had. Only good things to say about him |

I really enjoyed Professor Guttridge's classes. He is an experienced asset manager and you can tell he brings a real-world perspective to his lecture topics. The only negative I can think of is that his lectures don't have much interaction and engagement, but other than that the group projects were extremely relevant to a job in investment banking or asset management. Homework isn't crazy hard. Definitely utilize the TA office hours. Tests are pretty straightforward if you study the questions he gives you. |

All his expectations for what you are expected to know are clearly laid out. Exams, which are the only grades in the course, are very fair in terms of content and grading. Review sessions are very helpful in preparing for these exams. Professor is receptive to student concerns and very respectful. |

I really can't say enough nice things about this professor. He is incredibly understanding and wants the students to pass. The downside is the class is based off of two exams, but again the professor does not want you to fail so he curves tremendously. Because nothing in class is due, it can be difficult to attend lecture, especially when the complicated material discussed in class is simplified for exams as the class covers a wide variety of content. Furthermore, if you listen closely to his review sessions, he basically gives you all the problems that will be on the exam and the variations. But because the class material is difficult, there can still be confusion regrading the information, but he is very responsive and helpful so any questions should be answered. A note that should be taken into consideration, however, is I took this class online and I believe that the structure will be slightly different when in-person resumes again. Overall, highly recommend this professor :). |

Overall a really smart and nice guy who is considerate and kind towards his students. The material of the class is naturally challenging, there's no changing that aspect of the class. However, the professor gives students a lot of leeway with note sheets for tests, materials to prepare, and curving the tests. I'm sure the class will change once we are in person again, but I recommend this professor if you choose to take BMGT343 |

Bad professor. Half of what he talks about during lecture is irrelevant to the course curriculum and your homework and your exams. Difficult to do homeworks well without Chegg. If you get in a bad group for any one of the three randomly assigned group projects where nobody besides you does work then good luck because he won't help at all. |

I can't speak more highly of Shri. As a senior finance major, he is, without a doubt, the most educated and best prepared teacher I have ever had. Mainly a grad professor, I would highly recommend any finance undergrad to take him assuming you actually want to be successful in a financial/investing career. I learned more from him in a semester than I did in two years of other finance classes. He teaches like a graduate level course in that he doesn't just read off his powerpoint(tons of examples) and he is more concerned with you learning the information rather than being a "standard teacher". The class consists of two homeworks, one project, a midterm, and a final. There is 0 busy work in the class and only occasional readings. He also grades as a graduate class, mostly A's and B's, maybe 1 or 2 Cs. HOWEVER, this class is not easy, attendance is absolutely mandatory if you don't want to fail, and you have to actually like what you're learning. This is the class that will help you decide if you really want to go into investing/finance. If you don't go to class, I can guarantee you will fail. The powerpoints and book won't save you. But if you go to class, pay attention, be engaged, and want to learn, you'll more than likely come out with an A, a passion for investing/finance, and more knowledge than the rest of your finance classes combined. |

Fantastic teacher, as the other review said. Do the homework problems, they are the key to doing well on his exams. You don't have to worry about going to the review sessions because they are posted online in video format - but make sure to watch them because he goes through every step. Also, pay attention in class because he goes over really advanced techniques that make the simple math methods easy to comprehend. Really intelligent, great teacher! Also, start on the project early, and ask him for help. |

BMGT343 Expecting an A Anonymous 07/16/2010 |
Probably the best Investments professor. Homework is not collected and he gives you the answers so you can figure out the problems on your own. One project at the end of the semester, one midterm and one final. Make sure to pay attention when he goes over the projects becasue it will help a lot. The exams aren't too bad becasue the questions are the same as the homework, so make sure you know how to do all of the problems, even if there is only one question in the homework on a particular concept. You also might have to write in explanations for your answers on the exam. 10% of the grade is participation, but only a few kids in my class participated much. Class isn't exciting and doing the homework is usually more helpful. |
