Selected Topics in Biology; Biodiversty, Natural History and Culture of the American Caribbean

(Sponsoring Dept.: BIOL.) Acceptable towards Biology Sciences Specializations ECEV and GENB (Ecology, Behavior, and Organismal Area). This travel-study course to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will focus on the biodiversity, natural history, culture, and history of these islands. Students will do research prior to the trip on the animals, plants and ecosystems we will encounter as well as the impact of climate change and tourism on the land and people. They will also complete a book project focused on culture and/or history. Reflective projects will be due once we return to College Park. The trip will last 18 days and take place in the late summer. There will be several pre-trip orientation meetings in the spring and early summer and post-trip meetings in the fall. Students are selected by application and must pay a program fee to cover transportation, lodging, food, and activities.
