BUFN630 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/07/2025 |
I have never left a review on here before. I am currently a master's student, but I also went to UMD undergrad. Yang has honestly been the most confusing professor I have ever had ( I have taken O-Chem 2, so I know confusing topics lol ). Her class has no structure, and she jumps from one topic to another without any explanation. Trying to follow the material is impossible, and I leave every class more confused than when I arrive. She stops students mid-presentation and criticizes them before they even finish, which makes it hard to follow. The lack of structure makes the material ( that should be easy ) confusing. I have learned topics in two lectures with other professors better than with her over two terms. I am not leaving this review because of a bad grade or anything along those lines; I just genuinely believe she does not listen to feedback, and her rating on here does not match what you will encounter. If you have her, do not try to have her teach you material, or you will be lost. She has been given feedback by many students, but has yet to change her teaching style, and I feel that it is just not worth it to take her. If you can avoid her as a professor, I would suggest it. This is not a rip on her character as she is nice; this is solely about the class and teaching style. |

This professor does a great job teaching BUFN630. The grading for the class consists of case studies, participation, a case study presentation and a final exam. The case studies can be a little tedious but they are mostly straightforward and if you have questions definitely go to office hours. For participation just show up to class and ask a question every once in awhile to get full credit. For the case study presentation you'll be assigned a group and present what you found from the case study. Even if your group doesn't do the entire case study properly you'll still get full credit for the presentation. Finally for the final it is extremely similar to the practice final. Overall Maria does a good job teaching the class and its mostly straightforward. |

Very friendly professor and really knowledgeable in her field. The course assignments were difficult but open to interpretation, so as long as there is some logic to the analysis, the grading was lenient. The professor explains well but talks really fast and doesn’t record her lectures, so its very important to pay attention to her explanations and to ask questions. She will answer a hundred questions a week and never get annoyed. She genuinely cares that you understand. |
