Prof Mitchell is amazing. You will be in awe of how much this man has accomplished yet how humble he is. His lectures are LONG and he does take up nearly all 3 hours each time, but the stories are interesting and he gives breaks midway through. The class only has 3 exams, a grade based on attendance, and one extra credit project. He is very understanding if you miss, as long as documentation is provided. Exams are not hard at all and he provides review sessions and ample time for questions. |

insanely easy class. Long nights but super understanding. Had a long illness and he was so understanding. |

Captain Weller is an awesome guy who loves his profession and teaching about it, and it really shows in his lectures. He covers a lot of information in each lecture, he engages the class in discussions, and he is very funny, which made the class very enjoyable. He offers a good amount of opportunities for extra credit, and his exams are online and open note. Also, the group presentation is nothing groundbreaking; as long as you put in an effort and you don't read off the slides verbatim, you'll do just fine. |

Capt. Weller is a great guy who loves his profession and loves teaching about it. There was a lot of information covered in this class. At times, it was difficult to follow because the slideshows were a little disorganized and redundant. However, he engaged the class in relevant discussions every class and made the learning very interactive. There are only three grades for the whole semester: a midterm, 15-20 minute group presentation, and a final. This can be a positive or negative depending on how you look at it. Exams are open book and online. |

Super easy class! There’s no work other than 3 exams. He gives you the questions on the exam the class before. Only on Monday nights not bad at all. He posts all the slides if you ever miss class |

TAKE PROFESSOR MITCHELL! As someone who loves criminal justice courses already, he genuinely made my passion for it grow stronger. He tells a lot of stories about his personal experience, life working at UMPD, etc. It helps you to feel connected to the class and him as a professor. For exams, the week before (at the end of class) he gives a run down of everything that will be on the exam. Make sure that when he begins to go through everything you have your computer out and ready to jot things down. I always jotted down things I heard and worried about grammar corrections later. He goes pretty quickly but I was always able to get down every single thing he mentioned which helped me in studying. Studying is fairly easy and memorization/familiarity will get you a good grade. I could write all day about this course and professor. The ratings are 100% accurate and genuine. He is seriously a great professor and I loved the class. The class being later in the evening is not so bad since it is only 1 day of the week. He also gives everyone a group bathroom, water, or snack break about an hour in which helps. |

He only has three assignments, two exams, and a group presentation (15-20 minutes.) No mandatory attendance, but the PowerPoint are not super helpful, we did spend like two weeks talking about management vs leadership which I still struggle to find relevant. You can tell he is a kind person who cares about his students but he goes off on a lot of tangents and many lessons fail to relate back to policing. I'm not totally sure what I learned this semester. However, it is easy to do well in the class as the exams are straightforward as long as you carefully read them, plus he offers extra credit. We did convince him to put the final online. |

Dr Brooks is a really good and straightforward professor. If you go to the lectures, read the chapters, write like 2 sentences for the discussions posts, and review your notes before the exams, you can get an A (or even if you just do quizlets other people made a few times you should be good). I'm not going to get that because I was lazy and didn't really study but she also gives a 10 point extra credit opportunity by doing a police ride along and writing a short essay. Take her class |

This is a fun course. Despite it being 2.5 hours, it's only on Monday nights and professor Mitchell is a wonderful storyteller. Formerly, Professor Mitchell has served as police chief for multiple counties (currently UMPD), has been chief of the Maryland State Police, and has served for the department of Homeland Security. In addition, Professor Mitchell also has his JD. Thus he is extremely informed and knowledgeable not only on course material but also on life and leadership skills. He is more than willing to be a reference for his students in the future, and write letters of recommendation. He is a kind man who wants all of his students to succeed and the class only consists of 3 exams which are very passable. |

Such a great professor. I had her for both 300 & 340 and both went well. Dr. Brooks is extremely organized and very clear about assignments/exams. Exams do involve a lot of memorization of class concepts, and some textbook material, but it's all very straightforward. If you take notes in class and do the textbook review guides for 340, there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. Also a lot of great guest speakers in 340, so if you're interested in police work, you have a ton of opportunities to network. |

This man is so nice. He talks a lot and rambles and most of the time fills up almost the whole 2.5 hours but its only 3 exams for the whole class and if you go over your notes and read the book its so simple. He tells you everything that will be on the test and gives you barely any information to know. Super interesting super nice and a chill easy class taught by a police officer with cool stories. Definitely take him |

He's a great professor. Just do the readings and take good notes in lecture and you'll be fine. He also provides a break roughly in the middle of the lectures since the class is 2 and a half hours. You should definitely take advantage of extra credit, it helped me out a lot. |

I liked the class. There are 3 (50) question multiple choice exams and that’s it. He’s the Police chief of UMD. He offers extra credit, a police ride along for 5 extra percentage points. He rambles a bit about stories from his experience that will not be on the exam but it’s interesting. He also post the slides on line |

Excellent professor, I found lectures pretty interesting and on topic. You need to go to class to do well and easy extra credit quizzes. The tests are easy especially if you go to class. |

Professor Brooks is semi-interesting. Some days I can really pay attention, but others I fall asleep. The guest speakers are really interesting and I like that she offers a ride-along as extra credit. However, I think there should be some kind of assignment besides the exams and attendance to contribute to the final grade. I got an A on the first exam and a C+ on the second one, so even though I did the extra credit and barely missed any classes, I might get a B which is frustrating. I also had her for CCJ300, which was a lot better because there are four computer assignments which really boost your grade. |

Very easy class, but you do HAVE to go to the lectures - there are open note quizzes at the end of every lecture, but they're also very easy and help to pad your grade. Notes are done in an outline format and tests are very easy. She outlines exactly what you need to know from the textbook readings, so don't bother reading the whole sections unless they really interest you. There are five extra credit points awarded if you are in class the entire semester and take the extra quizzes (she gives thirty and only counts twenty five towards your grade). There are also five extra credit points given for going on a ride-along. We had six guest speakers this semester and they were all varied and interesting! SWAT, death investigations, K-9, Undercover, Guns and Hostage Negotiation. Dr. Brooks is also very approachable and willing to help out any students. She tells a lot of stories that really help the material stick in your head. She takes what sounds like a boring class and makes it very entertaining! |

Dr. Brooks is thee most amazing professor ever! She give the best notes, they are easy to take and easy to study. Tests are pretty easy, as long as you go to class. The readings are not hard either, they have to do with what your learning in class and she tells you what part of the book you will be tested on. AND! she gives a bunch of extra credit! This helps ALOT! if you have a B in the class it can bring you up to an A! She has open book extra credit quizes that are worth 1 point each, and there are 10 quizes in all. And a 2 page ride along paper which is worth 5 points. She has a bunch of quest speakers that come in who are supposed to be pretty good also. I took the class in the winter so we didnt have them. Crim majors will greatly enjoy this class. Its easy and you actuallyy learn! Btw, I got a 97% in the class! |
