I took CHBE101 with Dr. Sriram for Summer 2025, so it was fully online and attendance was mandatory. First off, this class was very well organized, especially in comparison to in-person classes. It was very smooth and you knew what to expect about what's going to happen in each lecture. In lecture, he would go over the pre-recorded videos briefly (sometimes I wish longer), and then he would do some discussion handouts to help you grasp the information. And, if you didn't understand something, he would make sure you do and would take the time to do so. He would also allow you to stay after class to explain some things you were confused on earlier. More in lecture, we would also always do some sort of Desmos activity which are graded (part of participation). This is done in-class, but he does give you until midnight to finish it. He goes over the answers in class, so basically free points. Sometimes, I can't attend lecture due to other priorities and he was understanding. He records the lecture, so you can go back to watch the handout explanation and the Desmos activity. There were no quizzes, but there was a project (6%), mini exam (10%), a midterm(25%), and a final (30%). I would say that the exams are easy to fair. The final had one difficult question which was worth 1/3 of the final, but it was cumulative and it was everything you learned, so that made sense. Before exams, he would literally take out time from weekends (as well as the TA) or any time convenient for students to do learning hours and reviews to help with homework and exams. The exams are usually formatted like: desmos (gives checkmarks to tell you whether you are correct on the spot), and then there was a Gradescope portion (do by hand and submit photos). Also, we had more than enough time to finish the exams (he would extend the time every time) and the grading was very lenient. There was also homework which are harder than the exams and its hard to get full points since he does point out DOF analysis alot and I often forget about it (this is on me). However, he is very lenient on submission and would always extend the HW due dates. Now, onto the class curve. There was maybe a 2-3% curve because I got an A- but on testudo it reflected as an A, which I was very grateful for. Mind you, this class was very tough for me (idk about others) as I did have a part time job where I would complete 35 hours per week. But overall, he is a very solid professor and is very understanding. |

Fawole is nice and chill don't get me wrong, but a horrible teacher for a 101 class. She made lectures fast paced and very confusing. The first exam was also super bad with an average of a 56%. She teaches an upper level chemE class, Fluids I believe, and she's not that great in that either so I've heard. She barely covers topics in class and expects everyone to know them on exams or homeworks. Hopefully she never teaches this class again, Woehl is way better. If she ends up teaching it next spring, I would advise everyone to study ahead. This class is only easy for the first 3 weeks lol. Start the homeworks early because they are def hard (but doable). |

Overall she seems like a very nice person, but her exams were super different and harder than the practice exams. Also, she looked kind of annoyed sometimes when teaching material balances and didn't really explain much, just read what she was writing. The class was taught by two different professors, so that might be one of the reasons why she didn't look that interested in teaching the class |

This man is so real. He wears SpongeBob shoes. He is passionate about beer and breweries. He also lowkey looks done with everything. Something about him just feels so human. To be fair, he doesn't want his students to struggle at all (I've accepted that we're just dumb). Professor Woehl, who teaches the second half of the course (after Professor Fawole), is clearly knowledgeable and experienced in teaching CHBE101. He answers questions well, and his lectures (which might be a bit fast) are interesting. He's also easy to talk to and willing to help (when he remembers to). However, the TAs feel like they don't exist. CHBE101 doesn't feel like an intro course (in terms of difficulty). It's definitely a weed-out. This course is curved quite a bit, thanks to how hard the exams are. All I can honestly do is laugh at my struggles for choosing chemical engineering. Weekly homework assignments take up some time, but are doable. The cumulative brewery project was challenging but fun. Overall, I can't wait to take his 400-level brewery class in a few years (if I survive until then)! |

I'm assuming Professor Fawole was new to teaching CHBE101. Or maybe teaching in general. They taught the first half of the semester and then swapped out with Professor Woehl. Really nice person, but their lectures were more confusing than helpful. Sometimes, Fawole wouldn't be able to answer questions about the topic being teached... |

Spring 2024. -Great at teaching and explaining. -I had a mistake in grading on the quiz, it was super easy to get it corrected. -Weekly homeworks are tough but not impossible. You have 7 days, and are allowed to work with others. |

Overall good professor. Reasonable and listens to student's concerns. Provides alot of resources for students to do well. Exams are reflective of what you do in homework and learn in class. |

Nice guy but a terrible teacher. He didn't have a single powerpoint for lecture or review sheet for exams and most of the time during lecture he wouldn't even teach. We did group worksheets every single class period while he walked around and we basically had to figure out the processes using the textbook or TAs. One time we asked him for help during class and he told us to google it. The homeworks were also group work and we all got one grade. The homework could sometimes last 15 hours a week and only a few people in the group could figure out what was going on and the rest of us would be desperate enough to copy them, but it was technically allowed, almost encouraged, because all the team members were supposed to have the same work anyways. There were no practice exams for the midterms and the exams were much much harder than the worksheets we did in class, with averages always being 50-60%. I put in a moderate amount of effort for studying for the exams and still got below 60 on all of them which was very disappointing. The curve was not as big as I thought it would be and I ended up switching my major (I know several other people from that class who did the same). I know in college you need to teach yourself and should not rely on the teacher but it would have been 100 times more helpful if there had been any form of teaching, powerpoints or review sheets. This was the only C I have gotten in college and I'm a junior. Overall this class made me despise the major, and I have heard the class is much better with other teachers. |
