COMM304 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/14/2024 |
Although the course content was boring, it is required for all communication majors. Nana tried his best to make the course as interesting and engaging as possible. Nana and his TAs were so nice, understanding, and accommodating. Nana is very positive and always looking out for his students; he wants everyone to succeed. Five quizzes, four projects, a few in-class assignments, and a lot of extra credit. Nana brought in a guest speaker for 75% of the classes this semester, which made the 75-minute class a little more bearable. Attendance isn't recorded, but Nana started doing in-class-only assignments when the number of students attending was low. Overall, he is a great and passionate guy; I recommend taking a class with him if you need to fill in the requirements. |

The content of this course did not interest me very much as a comm major. I am interested in the creative, more business side of comm, so I was really not thrilled with the curriculum being about research and methods. However, it is a required class. If you're like me, I recommend taking COMM304 with Nana. He is a very positive spirit and encourages every student to do their best. Most of the work in this class was graded by the TAs, who were also very kind and understanding when it came to grading. We had a lot of guest speakers in this class who came in to discuss their research studies. Attendance is not mandatory, but when numbers got low as the semester went on, Nana gave us extra credit or other benefits to reward us for coming to class. |

Professor Joyce is a good guy, just grades extremely difficult and his slides there is barely anything on it. Tests are difficult even if you study because the information is so vague. Class is a prereq only reason I took it, would just try to avoid him. |

COMM304 Expecting a B- Anonymous 04/29/2024 |
If I could give him zero stars I would. This class was the worst class I have ever taken. I am trying to think of a single thing I learned and nothing comes to mind. The lectures made zero sense, there are in-class assignments every class that are on things that we never learned. He brings up incredibly inappropriate topics (his alcohol addiction, suicide, and periods). Again, please remind me why my 40-year-old male professor is talking about menstruation in my media literacy class. Make it make sense. If you want to ruin your GPA and want to throw a chair at your professor in class then I highly recommend it. |

Zelaya is cool. Grading is not super harsh and her expectations and lectures are very straight forward. Weekly/Biweekly open note quizzes, 3 small projects on what youve been reading, and 3 unit tests (all open note). Basically gives you the answers if you go to lecture, she goes in depth on each topic. Highly recommend. |

Dr. Zelaya is a fine professor. I didn't find her COMM304 lectures particularly engaging. For a class that was 1 hour and 15 minutes, it felt like it dragged on. She is very passionate about communication research, but I felt like her lectures were not the most engaging. It did not help that most of the class was not engaged either. Overall, COMM304 was not hard. Not too many assignments with three online exams. She sometimes took attendance through in-class activities. |

Great person, super understanding, and wants you to succeed. Don't be afraid to participate and ask questions. The material can be a lot but the lack of solo, in person exams makes up for it. I appreciate how everything is with a group and/or online. |

Professor Maddux is great. She has personality during lecture, & understands her students. The class is very straightforward & easy to do well in. Read the articles, & do the in class assignments & the class is nothing to stress about. |
