Unlike many college professors, Professor Maddux does a great job preparing for class. Each lesson is unique and usually involves a fun activity. Her teaching style reminds me of high school, which (1) means she actually knows how to teach effectively, and (2) may be a nice refresher for some students. Major assignments included: (1) Weekly readings and accompanying writing prompts, usually 6-7 sentences. 1-2 hours. (2) Most classes (60%?) included an in-class assignment, which varied from lesson to lesson. 5-10 minutes. (3) Three major projects, which were presented to classmates in the form of a poster. 3-5 hours. Professor Maddux had very reasonable expectations for students. Her class was laidback and comfortable, which unfortunately meant a lot of students didn't pay attention in class, but also that the class is very low-stress (as it probably should be). Although the class was easy, I felt that it was extremely useful. It educated us on topics that most people never think about, yet is essential to our daily lives and the health of our nation. I'll be thinking about the topics we learned in this class for a long time to come. I highly recommend this professor. HNUH278B "Democratic Habits" Spring 2024 |

Professor Maddux is very kind and easygoing. She grades assignments generously (much of your grade is completion) and makes the content pretty engaging. Definitely recommend taking this class with her, it's very straightforward and she keeps the workload light and stress-free. |

Not many complaints, I didn't pay attention in class at all, but Dr. Maddux is chill enough to not care, plus she is a really great speaker. Class consists of her leading discussions with students about key concepts that she wants to communicate, and writing a reflection about the discussion that is automatically graded a 10/10. The projects for the class are kind of annoying though, you have to go out in the "Route One Corridor" 3 separate times and attend events, then make a poster about each one. Overall, you can put a minimal amount of effort into the class and get an A, and the content is decently interesting. I would recommend this professor and class. |

Super chill professor and class. Very understanding and wants you to succeed. Doesn't force people to participate and most assignments are done in class so not super time consuming. |

Great person, super understanding, and wants you to succeed. Don't be afraid to participate and ask questions. The material can be a lot but the lack of solo, in person exams makes up for it. I appreciate how everything is with a group and/or online. |

Professor Maddux is great. She has personality during lecture, & understands her students. The class is very straightforward & easy to do well in. Read the articles, & do the in class assignments & the class is nothing to stress about. |
