Super nice and she makes the class really easy. Take it with her and not Gandhi if you don't want to hate your life. |

Absolute gem of a professor! Breaks down all of the course material in handouts and provides plenty of practice questions for both quizzes and exams. She is responsive to email and very approachable in office hours. It's clear that she wants each student to succeed, and even learned every student's name by the second week of classes. 100% recommend taking Econometrics with Cropper. |

Really caring and supportive person, probably does too much for her students! It's a shame the high averages have brought in people who only want an easy class. She is a treasure trove of knowledge and deep understanding. Deserves an enthusiastic audience! |

I think that Dr. Gandhi does a good job at presenting her lectures. The slides themselves might be a bit dated so you might have some trouble viewing the slides on your device so you should take good notes, but she is more than willing to talk about anything that might have been confusing during her office hours, as she is quite approachable. I highly recommend going to lectures. I know that she is somewhat known for strict grading and that might be true relative to other professors but I thought it was all fair from my (potentially biased) perspective. The exams get a bit harder with each iteration, but there is a bit of leeway and she curves to a C FYI. Looking at the past syllabi in Testudo, it seems Dr. Gandhi covered a few more advanced topics than other professors might for this class, so the pace might be faster than other sections, but I think it's good to get exposure to those topics for future research and classes. Personally, I recommend her if you can be a relatively "good" student and show up to class, study, and utilize office hours. |

Great professor!!! Definitely take him. Econometrics is challenging and difficult but he tries really hard to ensure everyone understands. He's reasonable and patient with students. He's also really passionate and it makes the lectures interesting. His slides are pretty detailed and comprehensive. He actually wants students to pass and is proactive about it. He gives extra credit questions on exams and drops the lowest hw grade. Don't get me wrong, this class was so so challenging, but it would have been 10x worse if I had a different professor. I honestly learned and truly understood a lot. |

The nicest, most professional, and absolute SAINT of a professor. In my opinion, there is no other professor to take for ECON422. Projects were very useful for understanding the course material. The optional book helped a lot with comprehension. She allowed us to bring in notes for the quizzes and exams. I don't know what else to say except 1million out of 10. |

ECON422 Expecting a B+ Anonymous 03/01/2022 |
Econometrics is very difficult and requires time to understand how the regression equations are derived. Professor Kaplan is very understanding and will help guide you with the homework and projects. I recommend Professor Kaplan because he wants you to learn and teaches you the material as an adult. As a college student, I understand it's very hard to teach yourself difficult concepts but showing up to class is important and still sticking to some sort of study schedule is vital. Econometrics will be fast and might not be that nice but its a requirement that all ECON BS majors have to take. |

One of the worst professor of the University, need a lot of time to self study and very harsh on grade, half of class withdraw or get D/F |

Professor Kaplan's econometrics class was very eye-opening for me. Econometrics isn't easy but Professor Kaplan gives you opportunities to do well in the class. The project and homework assignments are 2 categories that I think you have the most leverage in. The exams are easier than the homework so as long as you understand what you're doing you should easily get a B in the course. |

Maureen is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. The lectures in class are PowerPoints which cover the textbook material, it makes the content easily digestible and understandable. Also she will add PDF's which break down 40 slides into 2-3 pages helping to emphasize the key concepts and how they work. For quizzes there's 3 in total and she gives you the questions beforehand and your allowed one note sheet there's no reason to not get a 90 on each of these. For the computer projects there's 3 and she will give you all of the code beforehand, and do a computer session in class you just need to answer the questions again there's no reason to get at least a 90 on these. For the midterms/final they're extremely similar to the practice ones she gives and will sometimes put extremely quiz questions on there also you're allowed 2 sheets of notes for these. In general this class is very manageable and setup to make you succeed just do the work and you can get an A. |

Good in lecture, but very strict in grades, half of class drop/withdraw or receive D/F level grade. HorribleQ |

Everything is taught conceptually... Very very few examples if ever for the questions you will be asked on homework and exam problems. Answers questions you ask him by repeating exactly what he said or saying things in an equally confusing way. Speaks in terminology and a way that can't be directly applied to homework questions. |

Not the best lecturer sometimes. Tests are a lot of memorization, averages in the 50s/60s. |

Quite possibly one the worst Econ professors I have had and that is saying a lot. He teaches straight from power point and has a heavy accent. He also say "mhmkay" between every other word that makes it difficult to follow. If you are like me and statistics dont come easy, get a another professor. |

I liked Cropper. She was very clear in her explanations in class that could definitely be really tough. She tried to learn peoples names and was extremely respectful to us and was happy to answer questions. I felt like I learned alot in the class. Her quiz questions are taken from a list of problems she hands to us a week or so before hand. There really is no reason to not ace them. On the tests she mixes things up a little but still if you did well on the quizzes and generally understood what was going on they are not hard. We also had projects in Stata which were useful and also easy. In general I felt like I learned a lot and was a pretty easy A. |

She got injured halfway through the semester so I didn't see her from mid-October to the end of the semester but she seems like a nice lady. If you have to take 422, take it with her. She makes it as easy as it can possibly be and allows notes on each quiz and exam. It isn't an easy subject but I feel I would've gotten more out of it if she hadn't been injured. |

Dr. Cropper is an overall great professor! Econometrics is not easy material, and it wouldn't be hard for a professor to make the class miserable. Dr. Cropper is the opposite. She does her best to help students learn the material! She often provided handouts to students so that we could follow her explanations in class and not be consumed in her lecture. She was very thorough with her descriptions and explanations and very approachable outside of class if you need help, or in my case, need a grade to be fixed. The grading is pretty straight forward. There were five quizzes throughout the semester-she allows you to drop the lowest one. There are two exams-a midterm and a final. There are three computer projects, each worth like 5%. The computer projects are based on using regression tools, and if you attend the project sessions, a 100 should almost be a guarantee. If you attend class, pay attention, read the book, and ask questions, you should be fine. She hands out problem sets, which are great preparation for the exams (she basis exams/quizzes off of them). She will go over almost all the answer to the problem sets in class and allows a sheet of notes for the quizzes and exams. She also provided review sessions prior to the exams. Reading the book helps if you 're confused, but the best thing to do is to attend class and possibly find someone to work with you in a study group! It might take a little while to adjust to her style and grasp the material, but be patient and keep trying to learn-you'll catch on eventually. Good luck! |

Dr. Cropper is one of the best professors at Maryland. She is very approachable outside of class and will do anything she can to help you out. She is very straightforward and really makes econometrics interesting. Take her any chance you get. |

Dr. Cropper is a very smart woman and covers the material in depth. She uses real life examples to make the material more comprehensible. While she makes it very easy to get an A in her class (e.g. having quizzes identical to practice questions and allowing notes during exams), I would definitely recommend reading the book, preferably before class. Lectures can be pretty fast paced and it may take a bit of time to get comfortable with the concepts. She is very approachable and clearly wants students to succeed. |
