(took spring 2024) - Really engaging classes, her lectures felt like TED talks and it doesn't take effort to pay attention. There's lots of in-class group activities, so make sure you like the people you're sitting with. Downside is attendance is pretty important - Decent amount of homework (notes, reflections, etc.) but graded on completion - Exams are essay questions, they're open-note but you won't finish them in time if you don't already understand the material - Lot of content is based on the professor's own research, so it would be hard to use external resources like chatgpt or google to help. You probably won't need to though |

I came into this class expecting a relatively easy class with some readings and discussions. But Professor Maki is genuinely the most pressed graduate student I've ever met in my life. When asked to explain a concept or instruction (because she writes them in a way that makes it feel like you are reading Shakespeare), she doesn't provide help or elaboration. She is a no nonsense type of professor and even the short readings are super confusing and hard to read. |

HIGHLY recommend Dr. Alexander and EDHD201. Dr. Alexander is an amazing lecturer and really knows how to capture your attention. Not a single lecture was boring for me. Once you experience one of her lectures, you'll wish every other professor was as engaging as her. She takes the time to learn everyone's names and creates a warm and welcoming environment. She is also a well-respected researcher with decades of research to back up what she talks about. You learn a lot about yourself as a student and how you can potentially improve in the future. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far at UMD! The only small gripe I had was that discussions weren't that useful, but you can skip them if you want. TLDR: a low-stakes and highly useful class. |

Professor Maki is great! My only complaint is that a lot of her course feels like busy work. However, most of the assignments and exams are pretty easy. Definitely an easy A+ and a great course! |

I cannot say enough good things about her she is a terrific teacher. This class is extremely easy and I definitely recommend taking it with her. She lectures well explains the concepts and gives you time during class with the people around you. There are reading reflections 1-2 times a week with some small assignments but literally, the class will not take you more than an hour to do the work. The exams are open notes and basically just about explaining the concepts and how they relate to each other so there are no right or wrong answers. It's a fairly enjoyable class and pretty interesting. |

Jannah is probably one of the best teachers i have ever had. This class really does focus more on learning than grades. By having grades take more of a backseat, and learning more prioritized than anything else, it feels like its a lot easier to learn and you learn more. As long as your actually learning the material, then you will get a good grade. And since learning is so much easier in this class, its easy to get a good grade. Jannah is also very kind, and goes above and beyond for her students. It felt a lot more comfortable in her class than other professors, because she actually cared and asked stuff like how your weekend was, which really means a lot. Overall, a really great teacher. I would definitely try to take another one of her classes in the future, and I will try to. |

Jannah is an absolute gem of a professor. Not only will you learn a lot in. the course, she will force you to really self-reflect and you'll feel personal growth. If you ever can take a class with her, do it. She's easily one of the best professors at UMD. |

Jannah Fusenig was one my favorite professors this semester. She really makes sure all her students know the material. I love how she goes around the class to check on everyone if they have any questions and really makes it a personal experience. She is willing to help in any way to make sure her students aren't lost and actually understand whats going on. |

Dr. A is an amazing professor! I really enjoyed the class and the material. It is all super interesting and personal. Everything you learn you tie back to yourself which is super cool. You definitely have to put in a good amount of time, there are readings twice a week which take up a while, but if you're interested in the material it's super worth it. If you already have a busy semester maybe save this course for next semester, but if you don't have the craziest schedule I HIGHLY recommend this class! |
