Cheng Gong is the "he's a nice guy, but..." kind of professor. He is very enthusiastic about the topics that he teaches and loves to encourage his students. He has a "nobody fails" policy where no matter how badly you do on the exams, if you show up to lectures and do the hws he will give you a passing grade. This is where my positive remarks end. He is not a very good lecturer; he either read directly off of his slides or derives equations in a very disorganized way. He gave us only a few hws throughout the semester that were pretty easy but not very useful for learning or studying for exams. We had two exams and a final. He gave us ZERO resources to prepare for them, so you would pretty much go in blind. It doesn't help that the TA this semester wasn't very good; he had an influence on the difficulty of the exam questions and most likely made them way harder than Chen Gong would've. He didn't release the final exam grades, but I am assuming that there was a heavy curve based on my own and peers' performances on the exams. 2.5/5, would recommend if you want to guarantee that you pass 380, but you probably will take very little away from the course |

Took 380 with Goldhar last semester His lectures were interesting and tests were very fair. Very helpful in office hours and gave some practical simulation problems for extra credit which were pretty fun. |

Good instructor that wants you to learn and not stress over your grades. Complete every assignment and do so with care, and do about average on the exams and you'll get a fine grade. It's not an easy class and the material can be complex and abstract, but he's very caring and will take time with you after class if you don't understand something. He's not the best professor I've had, but I feel he's a very solid choice for 380. His TA was where he fell short. His TA does research for him, but frankly, has no experience being a TA and clearly hasn't been around enough UTFs to get an idea of how he should structure what he does. Ultimately, Dr. Gong is great, but his TA wasn't. |

The most frustrating classes I've ever gone through. The 2-stars is because Professor Waks genuinely knew the material and was a decent lecturer, but he made the course itself very frustrating, especially for the non-honors section. The exam averages were a 57 for exam one and a 45 for exam two, yet he would not announce any type of curve going into the final, where the highest grade in the class that I heard of was a 60. The weekly homework's took at least a 6 hours and Waks would not respond to any email asking for help. I emailed him three times throughout the semester and received no response, and others I talked to had the same experience. I also knew people that attempted to go to his office hours, yet he wouldn't show up and would not send any kind of announcement. During class he would only cover the theories and never any examples, which made the course much more difficult as you had to figure out on your own how to approach any of the questions. To the professor's credit, he hasn't taught a course since before Covid, so he definitely had to adjust. |

Edo Waks is Wack. These other reviews are out dated. Exam and quiz averages were in the 40s-50s. Homework is insane. Does not do examples in class and refuses to help with practice problems. |

this professor is the most incompetent professor I have ever taken so far. His lectures are messy and disorganized. Multiple times the slide sets he gives have errors in them that he only catches sometimes. This class should be easy, but with him it is not. Do anything in your power to not take this guy. |

Good professor, demonstrate stuff with care, definitely knows his job, while his accent and handling of this language may confuse you in some cases - no worry just ask ab it. Generous on grading, cheat sheets are allowed and exams are straightforward, also I believe he give a little curve at the end of semester. Definitely recommend this professor for 380. |

I've taken many classes with Lawson and he's one of my favorite professors in the ECE Department. |

I really enjoyed the course, but he was just an okay prof. Super knowledgeable and helpful via email, but lectures for F20 kinda sucked. He originally intended for us to learn all the material on our own with just his lecture slides and no recorded videos; the slide decks legitimately were about 5 slides total for each chapter's material. Thankfully, he changed to holding zoom lectures at the scheduled synchronous time. He didn't do many example problems and pretty much just covered concepts, so if you don't remember much from E&M or PHYS270, you'll probably need to put in a LOT of work to get caught up and learn how to do problems. |

I took ENEE380H with Romero. For one thing, I would like to note that the only difference between 380 and 380H in his class was a single relatively easy homework on our second homework set. So this class was essentially 380. I feel bad but I cannot recommend Romero as a professor; he is a very kind man but especially with online lectures it can be difficult to follow his teaching style, as it's often walking through a presentation with copy-and-pasted textbook slides. I skipped nearly every online lecture because I did not get much out of them. The tests were open note and many hours long (two of them were 36 hours) and were difficult but fair with that amount of time. I would argue that the tests should have been worded more clearly, but he's more than willing to clarify in email conversations. I did not have much trouble with this class but I did not get much out of it either except practice with multivariable calculus - the class was very math heavy and not focused enough on conceptual topics. |

Grading was arbitrary and was completely unwilling to consider otherwise. I do not believe he actually grades the exams, rather he looks at your name and decides a score based on the grades you received on previous assignments. Other students had the exact same answers on multiple questions, yet received either much higher or lower grades for the exact same answer. Lecture style is a mess, nearly impossible to follow. |

Lectures are not well taught and do not teach me much useful information. Hope for a good TA as it would be quite helpful. Grading is fair, with ample extra credit provided. |

Pretty good professor you have to memorize everything though no formula sheet it's tough but totally doable. The trick is to do every homework 10 times because the quizzes are based off homeworks and the test are literally your homeworks. |

Waks was a good professor. He was prepared and came in to lectures ready to go. His homeworks were challenging, but if you could do them, you were good for the entire class. The quizzes were similar to HWs, and the exams were also similar to the homeworks. Definitely do and turn in your homework. He had a no cell phone policy during class, which was totally fine. He also gave us a 5 min break every class in the middle, which was amazing. Conveying information wise, he was good, but the later chapters were more difficult, and wish he slowed down. |

Lawson makes 380 a painless experience. Extends homework deadlines, has a handy set of lecture notes and makes reasonable exams (excluding our first midterm). On top of that, he curves as well. Also has a sense of humor to keep the class engaged. |

Chembo is a great professor. He comes very well prepared, he knows his stuff. Key thing in his class is to make sure you do all his homework problems. He's exams and quizzes are exactly the homework. Great guy! |

To get a good grade in this class: -Start the homeworks EARLY. There are only 6 assignments, but some of them are 50+ problems long, and take multiple hours to finish. -Bring ANYTHING (including a computer) for the exams. His 4 exams are each worth 125 points and are 5 questions long. Use the homeworks and textbook! -He determines your final grade out of 500 points, so the quizzes and homeworks are essentially bonus points, but also serve to help you for the exam. -He like to give bonus points for finding errors, let him know if you find one His lectures comprise of: -Rewriting equations found in the text -Writing a problem on the board then showing you the solution -Giving you surprise quizzes you get to grade yourself -Indimitating students about how hard the tests are -Showing pictures of historians (usually for about 20 minutes) -Telling personal stories I feel like I didn't learn anything in this class. |

He knows the material well and he is very well organized in class. The class material isn't particularly hard, and his exam were really straight forward and simple. Easy A in my opinion. |

Prof. Waks is a very good professor. He doesn't really try to trip up or trick his students at all, though the occasional wording of a test problem may cause issues. Homework is absurd but rarely shows up on tests. Just go over old exams and the material/problems covered in class. Also let's you have a note sheet for the tests (just put old problems on there!) All of this should be enough to get you a solid grade in his class. |

Waks is an amazing professor. His lectures are clear and concise and goes through alot of good sample problems in lecture. He also posts all of his notes in the beginning of the semester just in case you want to look ahead. Tests are very simple and are not meant to trick you at all. My suggestion would be to study the problems gone through in class and his past exams and you're guaranteed to do well. Averages for the exams are usually very high so make sure you study. He also gives quizzes in the beginning of every discussion, but depending on your TA, this may not be the case. My TA was a grad student so he typically didn't have time to make the quizzes, but be sure to look over the material beforehand anyway. Overall, Waks is an amazing professor. I suggest him to anyone who is looking to take 380. Good luck! |

Waks is a great professor, has very clear notes and examples which are also in text form on the website. He lets you have cheat sheets on the exam with anything on them, so just write down all the old exam problems and I promise at least one will be on his exam. All you need to do is do the homeworks and all the old exams you can find and you are good to go in 380. |

Dr. Romero's lectures are pretty well-organized and informative. The book he chose to use for the class was not the best, and although homework assignments were quite difficult, the exams were much more straightforward and fair. Not to mention there were many opportunities for extra credit; unsure if this will repeat for future classes. |

Good Professor. He explains the concepts well and the exams are fair. He will give sample exams that are similar to the exam but not too similar that you can just do a problem like you did on a sample exam. The only negative was that the homework was very hard and the discussion quizzes at least early on were difficult. Overall he is a good professor and I recommend taking him. |

Waks was great. He was willing to go over anything you wanted/needed to go over to complete the assignments in his office hours. He also posted very high quality lecture notes, available several weeks in advance. I always appreciate professors who do this. Also, his exams weren't too bad. They were similar enough to test bank/practice exams that you felt like you could study for them effectively. |

Taylor is awesome. He is a really nice guy and a pretty good professor. He focuses on the stuff that you really need to know. I didn't think his exams were that hard, especially since he gives you tons of extra time to complete them and you get to use anything, even a laptop if you wish. Most of the exam questions are very similar to hw problems, so if you get those, it's easy to get a decent score on the exams. There are usually 1 or 2 tricky problems, but you can figure out what method to use from the way he words the question and what kind of answer you think he expects. If you're finding the class to be tough, just start asking him questions about anything (hw, examples problems, concepts) because he ids very open to answering questions in class or by email or before and after class. |

Professor Taylor is a little better than awful, but a little worse than good. His book is not the worst textbook ever, but parts are hard to decipher. his tests are pretty tricky, but are open book. He has a lot of trouble hearing and seeing you so it is difficult to get his attention when you have a question. He does not have office hours which is my biggest issue with him. he will come early or leave late to talk to you but only for that little 15 minute window. Also, he doesn't ever answer questions via e-mail (as he is only barely able to use a computer it seems) so if you have a question that isnt answered in class, or need individual help with something, you are out of luck. All that aside, Taylor is not bad at explaining things, and is a very nice guy with a good sense of humor for someone as ancient as he is. He is reasonable and likes to talk about the history behind the people that discovered the things you are doing which makes for a nice break in lecture, and it is pretty interesting (i think at least) |

Not a bad at teacher but is def. not the best. Uses a book that he made on his own and it is horrible and has a lot of mistakes in it. But it is very easy to get an A or a B in his class. The HW's are extra credit and you have to get to 450 points to get an A. With three 100 point tests and one 200 point final and lots of extra credit from HW this is not that hard to do. Also in 380 we covered everything for 381 as well so it was somewhat hard to keep up with the fast pace but now I'm enjoying the benefits as 381 is very very easy. |
