She was nice and not really much different than any other creative writing workshop teacher. Her feedback was good, the assignments felt productive and beneficial, and she had a fun personality and was funny so that helped such a long class (mine was 2.5 hours once a week) be more interesting.

The class discussion was disorganized and ran long. His feedback was unhelpful, but I thought he did a good job leading the workshop. His feedback was not very helpful, which was upsetting because he seemed passionate about creative writing. He also seemed knowledgeable on the subject, so his lack of leadership skills or organizational skills was a disappointment.

Professor Scott is a really interesting and kind professor, but I don't feel like I benefited much from his class. The syllabus is disorganized, class discussions can go on for way too long (messing up the schedule further), and his comments on stories were often both given very late and not that helpful. My least favorite creative writing class I've taken here.

I took this course in Fall 22 and forgot to review it, but Casey was so sweet and incredibly helpful in her feedback. I always felt safe talking to her and admire her greatly, not only as a writer, but a woman who encourages us to grow and acknowledge our mistakes. The class structure was ideal for me, with it being mostly workshops and responses, but each individual only being up for critique twice throughout the semester. There are weekly assignments, but they take very little time, and as long as you remember to do them, it is not hard to get a high grade.

She's okay. She gives detailed feedback; the material and assignments are fair. On average at the beginning there were like 5 readings due each class and then it reduced to 3. The class was pretty rigidly structured, so I didn't enjoy it as much as workshops in the past. We never really got a chance to know our classmates which was disappointing. Overall, it's just okay.

Professor Norman is a very laid back and friendly teacher. He is interested in developing your talents and working with you on the subjects you are interested in. I was delighted that he allowed us to submit pieces of whatever we were working on instead of demanding we create new work just for him; this allowed everyone to get valuable critique on the pieces they care about. Some people dislike how extremely laid back he can be, but I think that if you have the drive to be working on your own work, he is a good support, and will do what he can to take it to the next level.

Agree with the people below me. However, I just want to clarify that he grades on the grammar and syntax of your stories rather than its content, so for some (like me) the grade can seem unfair. Just don't make those mistakes and you should be fine. Structure of the class is like this: you have to write letters for the stories you read, a few short assignments, 2 short stories, 1 revision, 1 crafts paper, and 1 paper about the discussion you lead. He basically hands out free A's on anything other than the stories, so even if you fuck up once or twice you should still get a solid A in the class. From what I've seen, the only reason people do poorly is if they don't come to class. Overall, he's a cool dude and I definitely learned quite a bit from his class. Just don't cut him off while he's talking or submit stuff late and you should be fine. Would recommend taking his class.
