Special Topics in Environmental Science and Technology; Ecosystem Services in the Concrete Jungle

Ecological principles for the built environment and the tools needed to understand critical drivers of urban ecosystem structure and function. Topics will include ecology in and of cities, ecosystem services, urban metabolism, climate adaptation, and water management. This will focus on reading and analysis of primary scientific literature. This course will prepare students to deal with the complex issues involved in understanding the ecology and ecosystem services of the built environment. Students will understand and analyze the ecological, planning, design, and policy dimensions of promoting urban ecosystems and the services they provide.
