Special Topics in French Literature; The Changing Face of France: Immigration, Integration and National Identity

Prerequisites: FREN387 and FREN351 or FREN352; or Permission of ARHU-French & Italian Languages & Literatures department. In this course, we will study the relationship between cultural productions (mostly literature and film) and society to better understand how ideology, values, and national identity can be either reproduced or subverted. We will focus mainly on recent representations of race, class, and gender, especially in the case of immigration and of "les banlieues" in films and novels from 1995 to today. Taught in French.
