GEOG202 Expecting an A umdcf27 11/30/2023 |
Professor Sun is really nice and personable. He has an accent, so it may be difficult to understand some points of the material but at office hours he is more than willing to help with questions and clarification. There are pop quizzes to ensure attendance, so going to class is mandatory and you can expect a short quiz every 2-3 classes. There are very few grades in this course (pop quizzes, midterm exam, midterm paper, discussion credit, and final exam), so it is important to complete each assignment to maintain your grade. For discussion credit you need to lead a discussion, but the questions are provided and the TA helps out. He posts mock exam questions (and you can find some of these questions on actual exams), so it is in your best interest to review them. Overall an easy class and would recommend. |

Dr.Silva is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate professor. The content of the course is 100% based on the readings (about 30-50 pages a week from 4 different books throughout the semester). The reading quiz questions are fair and are easily found in the readings and she aims for everyone in class to get the clicker questions right (so they're always easy). Overall Dr.Silva is a super nice and super fair professor. The class is an easy A if you go to class and pay attention. |

Dr. Feng is okay. He cares very much and his main goal is to help each student succeed, and he is very flexible and reachable. The reason that he's only okay is that he has a thick accent, which makes him very hard to understand. The content he teaches, the content in the textbook, and the content on exams are not completely parallel. Personally I chose to focus on the textbook material, and that got me an A-. As long as you spend some time studying the material, it's super easy. |

Really nice professor. He's straightforward with his explanations and really cares about his students. There's only one midterm which is honestly pretty easy and no homework except for making two presentations throughout the semester with the addition of a final paper. There's also another essay that can be completed for a bonus of 5% and two quizzes throughout the semester as well. The final is also easy (no trick questions) and I would highly recommend this class as it's really interesting! |

Kaihui is a very knowledgeable and humble professor. She asked for attendance in class except for certain reasons, and attention and interactions during lectures. The homework is fairly easy, mostly taken from the lecture, but would be challenging for missed classes. I like how she explained those concepts! |

The class was centered around 3 books. This class was more work than I thought it would be and she wasn't flexible as she would only give you 24 hours to watch lectures and complete the imbedded quizzes. There were also reading quizzes that were muted after they were submitted. The lectures were boring and just a repeat of the book. The term paper was easy as long as you read the books. I almost never went to the discussions unless it was close to a big assignment. Overall, an okay class. |

GEOG202 Expecting a B- Marley420 05/10/2021 |
Dr. Silva is a nice woman but a terrible teacher. I never had her in person but her online class was structured very poorly with unreasonable morning deadlines and unnecessary quizzes that were graded harshly. The books were very boring and didn't teach me what I thought geography should be like. The lecture stated exactly what was in the book that you had to read before, so things got repetitive. She muted all the quiz questions so you are not able to see what you got right or wrong, and deleted all her lectures after 24 hours which did not make sense. Paper was graded toughly and was sometimes vague with what the prompt was asking for. Overall the class wasn't doable, it just kinda sucked. The only good thing that came out of this class was that i got 2 gen eds out of the way. |

I really enjoy this course, so at the beginning, I was totally fine with how Dr. Silva's class was structure. I liked the readings, they're very intentional, but I'm starting to question why she structured the class this way during the pandemic. We have assigned readings and reading quizzes, which are usually fine, but then there are her lectures which are total rehashes of the text -- there's honestly no additional insight or nuance. I don't really get the point of them besides the fact that there are lecture quizzes embedded. It's probably helpful for those people that skim the readings and need more in depth discussion, but if you actually read it, there's no point. She also makes it so lectures are gone within 24 hours, which I've been okay with so far, but it just seems unnecessary. |

Dr. Silva is a really great teacher. She does tend to ramble and go off on tangents during class, but the content of the class is very interesting. From my personal interactions, she is extremely open to constructive criticism for her lectures and work, and really wants every student to succeed and learn. Super down to earth, and very approachable. |

DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE!The old lady seems nice but i'm highly doubt her teaching skills. The ppt is almost useless and disorganized. Certainly it needs to be updated a long time ago. The tests are disasters! the average for both midterms are just above 60. 2 long essays, 8 short answers and 15 mc for a 50min test?! Seriously? The expectations are very unclear! Please, don't take this course! |

GEOG202 Expecting a C Anonymous 05/14/2016 |
DO NOT TAKE GEORES FOR ANYTHING! There were actually many students who wrote complaints to the head of the department because of her unfairness and horrible teaching (if you can call it that) style. I know someone who is a senior geography major, taking 400 level classes, who still is getting a C in this class, and not from any lack of effort on his part. Geores is the most disorganized and worthless teacher that I have ever met, and the TA was just as bad. The averages were way too low, and she was rude and out to "getcha" grade-wise. She purposefully left things off the study guide, and during review sessions simply answered "It's in the book" when asked to go over something. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away as possible |

I took geog202 with her over the winter as an online course. Her powerpoints/lectures aren't helpful at all, so learning through the textbook alone was essential. She seems nice though and grades very fairly with helpful feedback. |

Here's the rundown. Go to class six times during the semester. Go the first day to get the syllabus. Go to the class before the midterm for the review sessions. Take the midterm. Pick up the midterm (otherwise -5% overall grade) Go to the class before the final Take the final. You can even just go to class just four times, if you have friends that go regularly and give you the review questions. Syllabus Midterm Pick up Midterm Final Eney is the man...but can be anal at times. |

GEOG202 Expecting a 95 Anonymous 04/27/2008 |
Eney gives out lots of A's. However, Eney is also perhaps the most boring lecturer I have ever witnessed. Seriously, bring a book. Mr. Eney is also a pedantic, egotistical, angry, self-aggrandizing little man with no concern for the human condition. He is the worst person I have ever had the misfortune to know, and worse yet I have to repeat his Geog202 class because he would not let me take a makeup midterm, saying that I would have to write a fifteen page paper covering every single point covered in class or in the textbook -- or else fail the course. I chose the latter, so I could still retain my dignity -- and my free time. Go to every single class and you'll probably get an A like everyone else. But don't miss anything, ever. He has concern neither for you nor your problems. He will fail you if you miss anything. I speak from experience! Eney is not a bad professor, but he is a horrible person. |
