Selected Topics in German Literature; All Power to the Imagination: 1968 and German Culture

Cross-listed with GERM689T. Credit only granted for GERM439I or GERM689T. This seminar investigates the transformative year 1968 as a watershed in the culture of German-speaking Europe. We will examine constellations of imagination and politics in texts that emerged during the long 1968 as well as in later works that reflect on the events of that period. Topics covered include decolonization, the Vietnam War, political violence, feminism, LGBTQ justice, new media, youth culture, the confrontation with the Nazi past, and environmentalism. Taught in German.
