Are you interested in Phenomenology? Sensecapes? Historiography? If so, take this course. I must have completely misunderstood what this class was supposed to teach, because I am beyond confused as to how this class matches the Testudo description. Lecture is a mess. 2nd week the prof pulled up a slide deck with -I kid you not, 3 slides, 5 bullet points each- and yapped for an hour. Wouldn't be as terrible if the content was interesting, but it leaves you feeling like you heard a lot, understood a little, and learned nothing. Attend lecture, but miss a discussion? You're screwed. Went to discussion? You're a *tiny bit* less screwed. Prof assigns weekly 'discussion assignments'. Each assignment lacks detailed instructions, and the grading criteria is borderline incomprehensible. Completed the assignment, but misunderstood the instructions? C. The readings are dull, tedious, and long. Average of 50 pages a week. I spend more time reading / trying to understand these assignments, than I spend on my UPPER LEVEL STEM CLASSES. Maybe this class is better with someone else, but I doubt it... Just don't take this class. |

Signed up for this class under John Sprinkle. He probably dropped the course and was replaced by Prof Woehlke. In the first lecture, he pulled up a blank slideshow with three one-word bullet points. The content is all over the place and makes no sense. The major grades in the class include a pop quiz (10%), three exams(30%), and a final project during finals week (25%). The pop quiz is the most absurd thing ever. If class attendance drops below 80% you get one, meaning that 10% of your grade is based on chance. Better hope that you understood all of the random readings that he assigned for that week. The readings are just complete word salad, and super dense. If you were looking for easy gen ed look away, please. |

Lecture attendance is mandatory, a dip in attendance usually means a quiz but we have avoided one so far. The lecture material itself is pretty interesting but can get boring at times. Towards the middle of the semester, the use of Powerpoint slides went away and it was pure lecturing (no slides posted). However, most of the information isn't complex and is more conceptual or historical examples of urban development and analysis. Discussion assignments aren't bad and are usually just reflections and analysis of a local community. Exams are 5 full essays in 75 minutes, which is a lot but doable. |

TL:DR : 10/10 prof, no notes. Pros: - The class is 3 gen eds, so it satisfies a lot of requirements - It's an easy A.. Like a really easy A... a decent amount of people in the class ended up with over 100% in the class - All of the assignments are fairly straightforward and don't require too much effort. The projects are a combination of drawing, taking photos, and writing, but you don't need to sweat them to get an A, you just need to check all the boxes on the rubric - No exams, and no final exams, only projects - Lectures are entirely optional Cons: - Discussions are not optional, but they're only once a week for 1 hour - There's weekly reading assignments, and the readings can be pretty long. However, there are certain websites online that are good at summarizing these readings and can help with writing responses. These also seem to be graded on completion. |

Took this class for an easy gen-ed and it did not disappoint. All you have for this class are short weekly reading assignments, projects (which are really simple), and discussion assignments. Lectures are skippable. The discussion activities we did were interesting and usually didn't take the whole time. |

Didn't attend a single lecture all semester (only the first couple at the start of the semester just to see their structure) and I have 100% in the class!! You have to go to the workshops because we do team assignments, but the lectures can be skipped entirely. There are also no midterms or final exam in this class. It's only research projects that are super simple to complete (I completed them within a couple days). This class is basically a free three gen-eds (DSHU, I-SCIS, and DVUP)!!! Taking another class for these gen-eds is honestly a crime....trust me this class hands you an A on a silver platter if you turn in all your work and put sufficient effort! |

Great course! Especially if you need a Gen Ed that covers a lot of different areas. Super easy and truly interesting. No exams. Just workshops and independent projects, and weekly readings. All extremely manageable! Take this class!! |

This is exactly how a gen-ed should be. Dr. Cameron is so kind and is obviously very passionate about her subject. The TAs were all nice and I enjoyed doing independent research projects to learn about where we live. I really enjoyed learning about the history of local areas and it made me think differently about the streets I walked on. If you are lucky enough to take this class, take it!!! It was so so so so so easy but still interesting. |

A very easy class that covers 3 gen-ed requirements. You don't even have to attend class every time and you will still be fine. 100% worth it. |

Definitely the easiest A I've gotten and the topics itself were pretty fun to learn. My TA was really laid back and it was great. You don't have to go to class unless its for the quizzes which were also pretty simple. The projects were fun and great feedback was provided. Discussion activities were pretty fun. The lectures itself were simple and interesting only sometimes, but all read from the slide so no point in going. Overall, great, nice, and easy. |
