Data Journalism

Prerequisite: Must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in JOUR501; or students who have taken courses with comparable content may contact the department. Credit only granted for: JOUR472 or JOUR772. A practical, skills-based course in the basics of modern data journalism, data analysis and data storytelling. Students will learn to use data programming, statistical analysis, visualization tools and investigative reporting techniques to unearth key facts, patterns and proof in storytelling. Students must contact Associate Dean Rafael Lorente (rlorente@umd.edu) for permission to register.
