soooo many homework assignments, but she's such a down to earth person and will explain whatever you need explained. better than the other 003 prof.

Unhelpful and just plain mean/condescending. Work is easy but if anything ever comes up do not expect her to be understanding or helpful.

Math is unnecessarily hard at UMD but Professor Terpos made it very manageable to get on track for the higher-level classes. She makes you work for your grade which I really appreciated. At some point, photomath and mathway won't get you through and she helps you learn math on your own. Terpos is willing to help and made it an enjoyable experience

I want this to serve as a warning to incoming freshman. For your sake, take the math placement test seriously. Don’t do what I did, which was take it at 2 AM, not put in any effort, and then end up in this class. Colleen Terpos is unhelpful, condescending, difficult to work with, and has a serious attitude problem. She does the bare minimum, which is teaching for maybe ten minutes and then you spend the rest of the class with a group filling out a worksheet. It’s one of the few classes where the TA’s are actually more helpful than the teacher. As for the work load, it’s definitely manageable. It’s annoying and boring, but if you grit your teeth and stick it out you will have no issue passing the class. Just stay on top of the workload, do NOT start it at the last minute, and you’ll be good. If you do end up in this class and you’re reading this, just know that I believe in you and you can do it. Just grind it out. Good luck.

I was nervous taking Colleen's class after I saw her ratings, but I'm glad I did because this is the first time I've actually understood math. The course is homework heavy, and she's strict about attendance but it's because she wants you to succeed. I did so well in this course that I didn't even have to take the final! If you actually want to understand math, and don't mind a professor with a bit of sarcasm, take her!!

Professor Large is one of the best at UMD. He cares a lot about his students, and wants all of them to succeed. He preps you for the upper level math courses, as it obviously gets more difficult after MATH003. I strongly recommend him if you need a prepatory class to take for Math.

Professor Large is a great professor. He cares about his students, and has great intentions to make sure all of his students succeed. Great man, and I totally recommend him for this course, as it prepares you for the other challenging math courses you need to take after this.

Colleen’s no nonsense attitude can come off as rude, but I truly don’t think it is meant to be. Besides, I think she is a great teacher. If you ask her a question, she always explains things in a way that is easy to understand. Because this course was self-paced, students worked on their own and came to class with questions. I think some students expected something else, but you could always get help from with this professor or TAs of you asked. In fact, I still go get help from Colleen now that I am onto more advanced math courses, because she explained things so well. If you have her as a professor you are in good hands!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! it is totally avoidable if you just retake the placement test! If for some reason you absolutely need to take this class, you can take it in 5 weeks if you stay on top of all the assignments. The class is literally just like the middle school/early high school Algebra 1 course you took just with no help from the teacher. As far as Professor Terpos goes, she was really mean all the time and made all her students believe they were going to fail. She also did not teach a single thing to anyone, all she did was stand around and watch kids do the online textbook problems for 3 HOURS! If I could put negative stars, I would

She is ok. But at times she is mean and rude. She makes me feel more stupid and made my mindset to fail the course instead oof motivating me to pass.

not very helpful at all. Avoid her at any cost. If you are stuck with her, you better be hella motivated and put the effort in to pass and get the hell outta this class. Her tests are hard as well. so be ready af.

MATH003 is a computer based, self-paced class. Because of this, the professor didn't really do too much aside from grading your tests while the TA was in charge of grading the homework. It was an extremely easy class for me because 99% of the material was a review of everything I've learned. You have the option of finishing it in 5 weeks instead of taking up the full semester if you take all 3 tests and the final before the 5 weeks are up (there's an official last day to take the final). The few times I did have questions, I could ask her or the TA, and they were both very courteous and willing to help. Not really any more to say about her since it was a computer class and her presence was largely unnoticed. She seems really nice though.

I would not recommend this woman. I had her last semester and she was very impatient and often very rude in her responses. Similar to that of a smart alec. She frequently would not assist me in exercises/problems but rather point me to the online book. This was frustrating as sometimes I needed a direct explanation as the book can be vague at times. Take somebody else.

Took the class spring 2008. the class material was made a lot easier by his simple tricks. He's a patient professor and really does make the class easy for everyone to get an A or B.
