I'm giving Dr. Bernat 3 stars because this course is practically impossible to fail so long as you show up every day and answer clicker questions (legit he replaces your grade in the class with the percentage of clickers you answered - they don't even need to be correct, just answered). However, I learned absolutely nothing in this course, which was really disappointing, as this was a class I was really excited for. If you're looking for a free A, absolutely take this course with Dr. Bernat, but if you're actually looking to learn about addiction psychology, you're going to be thoroughly disappointed.

I didn't like this professor. He seems nice as a person, but his class structure is very disorganized and he's bad at explaining complex concepts (and will use more complex concepts/words to explain those concepts, which he has to elaborate on to make us understand the original definition, and it goes on like that). Also, we were assigned to groups, and then each week each member of the group had the task of writing that week's writing assignment. Which counted for EVERYONE'S grade, even though only one person wrote it. Super weird.

He was quite disorganized throughout the semester. He changed the grading rubric part of the way through as well. His slides were helpful when he posted them but he went way too fast in lecture for anyone to write anything down. After week 2 everyone gave up going to lecture and taking notes and just watched the panaptos from home. We also had weekly writing assignments in groups due every Sunday. There was no consistency in the grading so it was hard to know how well we would do each week. He also released grades really late. On the last day of finals he released grades from sepetember and october till the end of the semester and gave us low grades. He knew the concepts well, but I did not learn much from this course.

Thomas is a really great professor. He is funny, kind, and a great teacher. He explains concepts well and gets straight to the point. He is very approachable and makes a lot of effort to be mindful and to make everyone feel comfortable.
