While the tests are hard, this class was full of fools, which made the curve very generous. This class is kind of pointless because it is basically a variety of random math topics. The TAs were ok, could be better. Cramton promised on the first day of class that he wouldn't use lecture format but that's exactly what he did. He is definitely a superior economist, but he seems not to give 2 shits about lowly undergrads.

Though an very intelligent person, overall, Cramton is a pretty average professor. Being a calculus class, it isn't effective for him to just read off of a powerpoint and try to teach proofs all day by just lecturing about them. He doesn't teach how to do the problems at all, but fortunately the TA's are pretty helpful in that area in discussion. They were the ones that actually prepared us for exams. Theres a pretty generous curve though.

I retook this course with Professor Cramton and WHAT an improvement from Professor Ozbay! Cramton is responsible for creating the exams and powerpoints and Ozbay simply takes them for his class offered in the fall (WARNING: DO NOT TAKE 300 WITH HIM!) Cramton allows a cheatsheet (front and back) for his exams, which can be pretty tricky w/ the wording of definitions but the math is simple. But BEWARE, the final is EXTREMELY HARD. you can have an A/B the entire semester and bomb the final and can get a C/D! MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE LAST PART OF THE CLASS (game theory and mixed strategies) the problem sets are hard, but if you go to discussions the TAs basically give you the answers.

Prof Cramton is a very smart guy, who is also enthusiastic about economics, which is hard to find. He is very fair as far as grading goes, because he curves exams and does not put very much emphasis on the difficult problem sets. Basically, if you go to class you should have absolutely no problem getting a B

great class to take if you have any interest in game theory or microeconomics. has so much real world experience with auctions so he really knows what he's talking about

Prof. Cramton appears to be to smart to teach. His mind goes to fast for his mouth and he stumbles on his words from time to time. It appears that he doesn't like to write on the chalk board and so he explains how to solve a calc problem without doing it step by step on the board like traditional math professors. If you had no problems with Calc. prepare to have troubles in this class. The math is not hard but he finds a way to make the exams very hard. It might be because a lot of the questions are definition based. It was kind of shocking after sitting down for the first exam and scoring very poorly. He fits all the grades into a bell curve so that even if you fail you end up passing. The Exams are 25 questions. You must go to class to pass for sure. Unless you can learn from reading a math book. This is a pretty new course at Maryland, so props to Prof. Crampton. He's a very smart guy who actually does economic stuff with his life that makes him money (I think he's some kind of consultant), which gives me hope for the future. Anyway, the course is difficult if you're not a math brain (it's basically Calc I for economics), as are the exams. (Mult choice, with all of the above and none of the above options on EVERY question!) BUT, they are curved nicely so that the average is around a B, when the actual average is around 60%. Though the slides are posted online, I recommend going to class if you don't understand things. He's a decent professor.
