Dr. D is a fantastic guy. He's clearly a brilliant nuclear physicist, which becomes pretty obvious in a class about nukes. In this class, he did a great job of keeping the material accessible to those without the math to handle the more complex facets of nuclear technology. Each student had to present two papers on subjects of their choice, and we had three imporant in-class speakers and visited the on-campus nuclear reactor. Dr. Dorland was very keen on allowing the students to influence the course of the class, and continuously sought our input both on the class and the Honors College in general. |

HONR100 Expecting an A Anonymous 07/17/2011 |
The HONR100 courses are lead by discussion leaders (older Honors students), not Dr. Dorland himself. BUT Dr. Dorland is a great person to get to know. He is the director of the Honors College and is always looking to hear what students like/dislike about the Honors program and their suggestions for its improvement. He has been really helpful for me personally with questions I had about scheduling and selecting a major (he is very outgoing and even has a fooseball table to lure students into his Anne Arundel office!) |

PHYS106 Expecting a B Anonymous 10/29/2008 |
I though that Professor Dorland was a terrific Professor. It was not an easy class, and I hated the textbook, so in order to do well, you had better spend some time visiting him during office hours. I also took the lab, which has nothing to do with the classroom. If you sit up front, ask questions, and take notes, you'll end up with a reasonable grade. |
