Troll class. Basically repetition of Intro to Linear Algebra. Final was weighted 50% of the course. I wish he taught Markov Chains which would've been an actual application of linear algebra. |

DO NOT TAKE MATH401 with Vadim!!! He is extremely disorganized, makes exams unnecessarily difficult, and does not even follow the course topic. To recap, the madness of this course started when Vadim accidentally gave his practice exam as the actual exam for our second midterm. This happened because Vadim was absent for the exam, and incorrectly sent the sub the practice exam instead. You would think this was a huge help for all the students, except it was the complete opposite. This practice exam contained problems which involved heavy use of irrational numbers, which made questions designed to take 15 minutes, instead take 45. The first problem on the exam alone took 45 minutes (assuming you could even solve it), and this was only one of the ten questions on the exam. The following class, Vadim carried on with lecture, and did not even acknowledge any of what had happened in the previous class. Then, students complained about this at the end of the class, and no announcements followed. In the final class of the semester, we finally discovered with further questioning that the second midterm would not be part of our grade, and the final would be 50% of our course grade (yes, 50!!!). The final, of course, was obscenely difficult as well. Problems featured complex numbers, and, again, irrational numbers. No college student should be expected to be able to finish an exam like this in 2 hours. Once again, Vadim was not there to administer the exam, and had a sub do it instead. Additionally, Vadim did not properly announce to the class, that calculators were allowed. This meant that some of the class did not even get access to a calculator on the exam, when it was, of course, extremely helpful for the excessively difficult numbers on the exam. I would be impressed if even a third of the class was able to get through the entire exam. What makes this class so irritating, is that it had no reason to even be frustrating like this in the first place. Instead of covering applications of linear algebra (like the course title would suggest), the course was instead just a review of MATH240, except with painfully disgusting/tedious exam problems, which you don't get exposure to in class or homeworks. MATH240 somehow discussed more applications of linear algebra than this course. MATLAB was not even used one time in this class, and we spent the entire semester tediously row reducing, and finding determinants and eigenvectors. Vadim is WAY too disorganized to teach, and the students are the ones who pay the price for this. Even if the course title interests you and you're not afraid of a challenge, do not take this class, because you're not gonna learn anything whatsoever about applications linear algebra, and you're just gonna spend a whole semester tediously solving problems meant for a computer. |

Very lenient grader. Allowed the use of calculators on all exams, and allowed the use of notes as well on the final. Before the final, he walked us through exactly what it would look like. Maybe not the best professor if you're looking to actually learn 401 material, but a very easy A for a 400-level math course. |

Wasted a semester. He repeated 240 material and did not teach any applications. |

Content from lectures did not match with the course outline. Most of the class was review from Linear Algebra. He may be unorganized, but he was helpful with some issues I had. |

Like the other review said, he doesn’t teach applications. The class feels like 240 all over again and the homework is busy work. He doesn’t use the same textbook as Justin so Justin’s notes won’t help you and the final is worth 40% of our grade. Felt like I wasted a semester taking 401 with him |

Like the other review said, he doesn’t teach any applications. Lectures are boring and the homework is busy work. He uses a different textbook from Justin so Justin’s notes won’t help you and the final is worth 40% of our grade. Felt like I wasted a semester taking 401 with him. |

He is not a bad person but: Don't take 401 with him. He doesn't teach applications of lin alg, but rather a shallow overview of 240/405 and some applications at the end. He mainly reads the textbook and the homework is busy work. Mostly unorganized and will leave immediately after class so no one can ask questions (will not respond to your email either). Rescheduled an exam to the Tuesday before Thanksgiving because "if we have the exam the Thursday before, no one will come to the Tuesday class" |

He mainly reads from the book but gives slightly more in-depth examples. He is extremely disorganized and his primary focus is research. He is a fair grader, however and gave a generous curve at the end. |

Mostly just reads from the textbook. Is a fair grader and gives you a practice exam that is nearly identical to midterms and final. |
