This was by far the most fun class I have taken at UMD and I highly recommend taking it with Professor Marshall. This class was an absolute vibe to attend and she gave us a lot of extra credit assignments. We had to watch a few musicals and we talked about how it was perceived in each time period. So we had a few essays that focused on observation analysis and interpretation. We had weekly 3-2-1s which were discussion posts on what we learned in class and what we still don't understand. We also had a musical performance in class which was worth a good 10 percent of our grade. All in all, as long as you can turn in work on time, you will get an A. But one problem with taking this class with Dr Marshall is that you won't get feedback on time. You can always drop by during office hours but sometimes it becomes a problem as some assignments are based on the previous ones and she cuts marks for not changing stuff in it, but you often don't know what you can change it without feed back. And sometimes, she would post the canvas assignments 1 day before the deadline on a Sunday. But all in all, this class was an easy A. |

This was a pretty easy class, except some concepts were obscure and probably a bit complicated for an intro to theatre class. My TA did not give specific feedback on why they took off points on assignments which was frustrating, but I never got more than a couple points off. Prof Marshall also would post some assignments on Canvas late. We got extra credit for going to musicals on campus for free which was really easy extra credit. |

She's very passionate about what she teaches, which is more helpful than a professor who doesn't care. However, she was often late with posting the week's assignments and sometimes only gave 6 hours to do the work, which was ridiculous (work due at 11:59pm on Sunday sometimes wasn't posted until the Sunday evening) and I found it very annoying. The TA's were okay, sometimes they were very picky about what they wanted and would take off points for dumb reasons. Dr. Marshall is a great person and I would take a class by her again, but the uploading work late was very annoying. |

She's just okay. Not bad, but not great either. She's obviously passionate about her field of study which is fantastic and makes going to class much more interesting. She was also very approachable which can be tough to find at a big university like UMD. But at the same time, she thinks every lesson she gives or project (yes, there's a semester-long group project) she assigns is the gold standard which gets incredibly irritating. Also, it didn't bother me that there was a lot of work (it's a college class, what do you expect?), I was just so infuriated by the TAs who were so picky about what they wanted and would take points off of the many writing assignments for incredibly small things. Overall, she's fine, and I got an A in the course. But I dreaded going to class each day... make of that what you will. |
