AMST101 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/26/2025 |
Class was pretty easy. Only four units, each with a response paper due at the end of the unit based on the readings of that unit. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is taken. There is only one midterm (midterm questions are given beforehand), and a final group project. As long as you follow the TA's guidelines for the response papers, you'll be fine. I never interacted with Dr. Mirabal, but she seemed like a great person. |

Dr. Mirabal was a pretty solid professor and definitely showed a lot of passion for the subject and department, and the class with all the guest lectures lowkey feels like an advertisement to join the AMST dept. Participation in class is super important and a large chunk of the grade is based on that, so make an effort to go to class. Theres also extra cred opportunities, like being a notetaker in class, or going to specific events. If you take advantage of those, then this class is a breeze. Your major grades are graded lightly (except for the midterm, which you'll get torched on), but this is a solid gen ed to take, but not one if you plan on skipping all the lectures. |

The class was okay. If you are not interested in history, do not take this class. It was pretty boring and had a lot of busy work. Professor Mirabel was chill, but lowkey got off topic a lot during the lecture. She would invite random guest speakers to talk about stuff that was neither relevant nor interesting and just felt like a waste of time. The final project is worth 40% of your grade, so you'd better get a good group or else you're probably screwed. I loved my TA, and they were probably the reason I got an A in this class. I agree with the review under mine lol |

AMST101 Expecting a B- Anonymous 10/16/2025 |
Her lectures are quick, but the TA's grade like you killed their grandma. The response papers that are not "right" or "wrong" get docked points. This 101 is easy at glance, but when you get to the grading portion you're destined to fail. Even though the midterm questions are given to you before hand, the grading is insanely difficult unless you have insane history background. |
