The short version: if you're looking for an easy A, this is the right class for you. However, if you actually enjoy playing video games and consider yourself a gamer, prepare to hate this class. The long version: Dr. Norman will happily give you an A, but that's mostly because he has no idea what he's doing. This class is a complete mess and I learned pretty much nothing from it (and saying "pretty much nothing" is being kind). This guy has NO IDEA what's doing and I'm just truly amazed that he's allowed to teach at this university. Some of the things he says are not only complete bullshit, but are downright offensive. Some examples of bullshit he has said: vaccines can cause ADHD, the girls in the class need to consult their boyfriends in order to do well on assignments, and global warming is something people "believe" in or don't. Also, he uses his own website separate from Canvas called Hypercourseware... it's terrible, buggy, and the server goes down if more than 5 people refresh the page at a time. Basically, take this class at your own risk and if you decide to take it, good luck and may the Game Master watch over you and protect you (more bullshit he says). |

So material-wise class consists of pop quizzes on the readings, 2 exams, a group project, and a lot of discussions and homeworks. Exams are mostly memorization so they're a little tough but they're very fair, no tricks involved. He gives you a study guide and tests you what's on it. The homeworks are easy / can be fun. The project is a group project... so it kinda sucks. It can be fun if you get a good group. Class is more about the "cyber" than the "psychology." Normal clearly prefers one subject to the other. It is neat to see how some psyc concepts can be applied to the technology world but Normal makes it clear that he's most passionate about the technological side. He also does not believe in therapy so you don't talk about that a whole lot. Norman includes many different ways of learning, though. Textbook, lecture, videos, discussions, projects... take your pick. He wants to make sure everyone has a chance to learn in their favorite way. Textbook is kinda boring and he uses a lot of technological language in it. Overall I'd recommend this class for an upper level psyc elective. As long as you keep up with the work and study a bit for the exams you can get an A. |

This is a good class for review if you didn't take psyc100 in college. The text goes over a very wide range of material, so reading over it is great if you want to relearn some stuff that wasn't clear from previous psych classes. If you want a class focused on certain aspects of psychology and technology, I suggest taking another class. |

Norman is a nice person and a good teacher (in that he clearly communicates the material he wishes to). The problem with him is that his course design sucks, and he doesn't seem to know much about computer science, which makes PSYC444 somewhat useless. He seems to be a professor that has fun and gives easy As. If you are in college to get a diploma and optionally a GPA, take it. If you're here to learn useful things, this class is not the place for you. |

Norman is a great guy. He really cares about what he does. He tries to be funny in class; most of the time its not a bad joke but the class is so small and everyone is so distracted by the computers in front of them that no one notices and he's left in an awkward position. I felt kinda sorry for him. But anyways, class is really easy. If you miss class it doesn't really matter. But its good to show up every now and then and participate a little bit because if he knows you better he will help you at the end of the semester. You will have online discussions and a few online projects. They're very easy and give you easy points. The exams are very simple as long as you go by his study guide. They're all on the computer as well. You also have a group project that isn't hard either. If you want an A, do well on the project and make sure you do all the discussions and projects, and try to do reasonably well on the midterm and final. The final grade is based on assignments (projects & discussions), the project, the midterm, and the final, each worth 25% of your grade. |

Class can get a little dull but it was pretty easy. Dr. Norman is a nice guy. Recommend for a 400 level psychology class... |

If you actually want to learn about real psychology do NOT take this class. I was so annoyed to find out that the honors version is actually "cyberpsychology" which is not exactly what they test you on on nursing entrance tests... The class is really easy though. It's just annoying to keep track of everything that's due. |

What a cool guy! You dont have to go class to do well, but go every once in a while because he really cares about students. Material is very easy and interesting. Test are EASY! You get a review guide, and you just study what's on it. Homeworks are a bunch of little projects that are pretty much completion based. Gives extra credit. Tries to be funny and usually isn't but you can't fault him for trying. The material is interesting and so is the cool computer lab. Take this class for a 400 nonlab! |
