I would say that he is one of the better 141 professors out there. His tests are fair and he is extremely fast when it comes to grading exams. One downside to him was he was constantly a few minutes late to most lectures including exams, he does give you added time for the exams but it can be difficult when you have other classes after it can be tricky but that is my only real bad thing to say about him. I felt his pace was good, wasn't too fast or slow. He posts all of his lecture notes which are very helpful when studying for his exams. He doesn't curve a specific exam but at the end of the semester the final grade cutoff was shifted accordingly which was great. Overall I would recommend him as I do think he is a good professor especially for such a hard class like Math141. |

Really great professor in my opinion, I would recommend him. I liked his lecture style and he explained everything thoroughly. I know many people find him disorganized, but I found him to be helpful. Exams were fair and are very similar to examples we do in lecture. Obviously, with any calc class, it's important to do your own practice problems in your own time if you really want to get a good grade. TAs were very helpful as well. We didn't have quizzes this semester but had worksheets instead which we always got full credit on as long as we completed it. He curves at the end too, about 5%. |

The GOAT for Calc 2. The work is very manageable, 2 webassign homeworks per week with extensions given automatically if you need them, whenever you need them, so essentially none of them have deadlines (but if you request an extension you will lose 10%). Discussion sections have a graded worksheet every class, so you can't really skip them, but the worksheets are graded on completion rather than accuracy and I finished and left early 90% of the time. Really manageable. Exams are not curved but they're super easy compared to other calc professors I've had, like directly copying a couple problems from lecture note examples and re-using them with different values easy sometimes. He does not record his lectures but he posts lecture notes, so if you miss a day or two it's not a huge deal. While individual exams are not curved your final grade is and the curve at the end of the class was great, I ended up with an 86% and got an A-. Shalin himself is not too entertaining as a lecturer (I think this is the fault of the subject more than him tbh) but he has his moments, and is a very chill and easy to approach guy. Only cons I can think of is that because his exams are relatively easy in comparison, you have to study harder for the final which is co-written by Chadwick and the other department heads to be prepared, and he also shows up to lecture 5 minutes late every single day. |

His lectures were well-paced and he was always ready to answer questions. He posted lecture notes and gave homework extensions whenever needed. His exams were wayyy easier than the other calc 2 exams (almost all the questions were from homework or lectures and were usually very straighforward), which made a good grade cushion for the final. The class was curved very generously at the end as well. He rushed the last unit but it was not too difficult to learn independently. Overall, he made the class extremely fair and a great experience, especially considering it was calc 2. |

Gives the easiest exams out of literally any possible professor. 5 questions no bs. Take him if you want the easiest calc 2 experience of your life. He also teaches the content really well in lectures. |

I'm not sure how I feel about all the positive reviews? It's not like he's bad, but he's not the greatest of all time. Parekh is constantly late for class (that was good for me because I was late too lol), but he still gave us the full 50min to do the midterms. He has learned; no more cheat sheets and no more calculators on exams. NOTE: - He likes engagement (i.e. asks question, waits for people to respond) PROS: - Posts notes (in batches albeit) - Listens to students (ex. he pushed back hw because he didn't finish teaching the unit) - Grades FAST fast (TA's and him are the goat) - Lectures are pretty clear/straightforward - Midterms super easy CONS: - Doesn't record - Might have to speedrun the last few parts (chp 9 and/or 10 I think) because he kinda teaches a bit slow (i.e. might get behind on content) - Midterms super easy. The last con is my biggest worry with him. While I enjoy easy assignments and stuff (yummy A+ mmm gpa go up), Parekh's are a problem. His midterms are like high school hw like... 1 page + 5 problems WITHOUT multiple parts + easiest problems to ever exist = easy A. BUT REMEMBER!! At least for the lower-level math courses, finals are written NOT by the professor, but by the head (? dean? what's he called) of the math department. Meaning, Parekh's handholding does NOT PREPARE YOU FOR THE FINAL!!!!!!! I'm writing this before I take it, but I KNOW I'm cooked... |

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Parekh. While he is one of the better math141 professors (from what I've heard), he also is VERY unorganized which makes this class more difficult. First off, he is always late to class by at LEAST 5 minutes. This isn't that big of a deal except for exam days (there are 3 midterms) when you lose time on your test. This also had us rushing through material so fast right before the final so I truly understood none of the last chapter and a half for the final exam. He also gave us a note sheet on the first 2 exams then told us 4 days before our third exam that we didn't get a note sheet on it because the final didn't allow us to have one. That is understandable but he told us so last minute so it was stressful. We also were allowed graphing calculators on all 3 exams then he told us one week before our final that we didn't get one, which meant we had to re-learn the class without a calculator in one week. He also told us never to email him because he doesn't like responding. In terms of why Dr. Parekh is one of the better math141 professors, he is very lenient. He gives extensions on any homework you want and he also curves the exams if the class did bad, which is uncommon in this course. He is good at teaching the topics despite the lateness and he posts all lecture notes so if you miss something you won't fall too behind. |

cares about students, always engages with the class, posts lecture notes, grades EXTREMELY fast (finished midterms over weekend, finals on the day we took it), goes through content at a good pace, very knowledgeable (can ask about stat things beyond the scope of the class, he will have an answer), also exams are very fair (just review lecture examples), only problem is that some homework problems were really hard towards the end of the semester but you can go to office hours or search up the problem online to get insight |

You can tell Dr. Parekh is passionate about what he's teaching and makes sure his students understand the material. His lectures are also very clear, and he is more than happy to answer any questions you have in class. As long as you ATTEND CLASS (which is highly encouraged because the examples he does in class mirror the questions on his exams), you should do completely fine. His homeworks are a bit time-consuming, but they are graded very leniently with flexible due dates (thanks Ying!) Also, he also told us the cutoff for an A was around 200 out of 250 on the exam. Would recommend taking. |

I feel like I was retaking linear algebra class in 2/3 first semester. After that, we actually learned some applications of linear algebra which were not much but interesting enough. Homework was long and time-consuming since it's worth 35% of the total grade but it was not hard at all. We had a midterm for 30% and a final exam for 35%, they were exactly similar to his practice problems. Prof. Parekh is not a good lecturer but a great instructor. I remember he was doing rref in class for about 20-25 minutes, which was definitely unnecessary. He literally told us the cutoff for A was 70-80% and passing was 40-50% before the final even though the class average wasn't that low. He graded homework and exams very leniently. So, attend his lectures or at least the review lecture to have a high grade. |
