This class is pretty easy for the most part. This class is on PostgreSQL which is a database language. This class mostly focuses on the basics of the language such as how to select from and filter a table, join two tables, importing and exporting data, making useful queries, etc. There's a ton of assignments you'll have to do such as discussions, short presentations, quizzes, and labs, but most of these are quite easy and can be done extremely quickly. Just try to build some sort of calendar for this class because there are a TON of these assignments and it's easy to forget one of them. Lecture is pretty boring and I honestly just stopped going to it because you'd get more knowledge just by looking at the code examples than from the lecture. Labs are basically free points since they don't check for accuracy and they straight up give the answers during the lab. You do have to actually go to the lab classroom and attend the zoom to get full points on the lab (although you can leave once you sign the form). There are two main parts of this class that impact your grade, homework assignments and the final project. Assignments generally involve you having to create or import a table into your database and you have to perform a specific query that outputs the correct results. There's only 4 of these and all of them can be done within about an hour or two. Just make sure to follow the rubric and make sure what you are getting is exactly what is shown in the assignment. The other part is the final project. You work with a team to build a database and make sample queries on it. You also have to write up a couple documents throughout the semester such as a Team Contract, Project Proposal, Progress Report and Final Deliverable. If I'm being honest the documents we had to write up took much much more time than the actual creation of the database, the database this class requires is nothing too major. Make sure you coordinate well with your group so you can do good here. Overall I'd recommend this class if you are interested in learning SQL and want an easy gen-ed (this is easily one of the easiest classes here at UMD).

Very easy course, if you need a DSSP credit I'd recommend that you take this class. There was a weekly discussion that you were required to go to if you wanted full credit on the labs, but the TA basically gives you the answers and lets you out early (like almost 45 mins early). There were weekly quizzes on ELMS which were based on the lecture material, you can basically Ctrl F through the slides to find answers. Choose an easy topic with lots of data available for the final group project and it will be really easy. Overall probably spent about 30 mins a week on this class, maybe up to 60 or 90 when working on the final project towards the end of the semester. Minimal workload and easy A.

This is the best gened to take. If you dont want to care about a class then take this. Just a large group project due, if you find a good group you are all good. easy A+.

Srikanth was a very good TA for INST327. He was always willing to help students and explain concepts that were difficult to understand. He responded to emails pretty quickly and was overall just a very nice person. I recommend his discussion section for INST327, this semester it was Fridays 3-4pm.

This was a co-taught course. The lecture material was the right amount of challenging and provided a good background into decision-making. However, his lectures were hard to follow because he often read off the slides (which were posted). Attendance was mandatory, so often I felt the lectures were not helpful and went because I had to. Despite issues, he was always willing to help students.
