I am taking this class online Fall 2020 semester. His class is very difficult to follow. His lectures seem very rambling and his handwriting is difficult to decipher. Often, he has technology problems. The reason for my high rating and expected course grade is because he curves and listens to students recommendations. His teaching style is not preferable. However, the class is passable with a decent grade. |

This man is a horrible teacher. I took Neri for ECON201 and Verma makes me miss him. He goes too fast because he handwrites his notes instead of using Powerpoints and there are no whiteboards in the front. Additionally, his handwriting sucks. If you have to take him, make sure you go to class. Even though it will feel like a waste of time, he says things he does not include in the handouts he uploads to ELMS. I think I failed two out of the four exams we took in this class. The only reason why I am passing is because of all the extra points and curves he has given. |

Verma is the BEST professor I've had for a math-economics class! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. I can't believe he doesn't have more ratings. He has 2 midterms, 1 large stat model assignment, bi-weekly online hw and 1 final. The key to passing all of them is going to his class! He doesn't post any notes but the hw problems and exam questions are class notes verbatim with different numbers. He tells you exactly what will be on the test and what to study for. Honestly, you don't even need the book if you go to his class. He takes the book jargon and gets rid of it then presents us the gist of the information. He doesn't curve anything until the end. Depending on how you did on the midterm1 vs 2, he'll make one worth more that the other for your grade specifically. Mind you, he runs the model for every student. That's how much he cares about your learning. He refuses to penalize you for doing worse on the 2nd exam but wants to award you if he sees that you improved from the 1st to 2nd exam. Honestly, the guy's pretty funny and amicable. He likes to tell stories and crack jokes in class to make the atmosphere more friendly and it works. |

Very difficult class. I was already very familiar with most of the topics, but this class was still an uphill battle. Even when I thought I had a solid grasp on a topic, the exams were INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. I never had enough time to finish either of the midterms. Not to mention how much of a pain it was to try and learn SPSS basically on your own. Professor Verma does not use slides and goes through the material very quickly on the board. My advice is to sit in the front row at each lecture, record the audio on your phone for future reference/take pictures, and do practice problems. Get a study group. Verma is a nice guy - as he is not afraid to say - and most of the time he is a good professor. But he moves very quickly and the tests are nearly impossible. Bless the curve. |

Verma is a great professor if you actually show up to class. He doesn't post power points, and most of the problems on the exams are ones he did in class. He also gives a pretty generous curve. |

Verma is by far the worst professor I have ever had at the University of Maryland. For our ECON306 course, he did not use slides and only wrote on the chalkboard (with illegible handwriting) for the entire lecture. Also, the only thing he will post on blackboard to study off of is handwritten notes that do not make any sense and require detailed explanation. His tests are absurd as well. Avoid taking this class with this professor at all costs. |
